The premise on how they got to know each other was rather outlandish; the girl wants to find a good place to study and found it not in the library study area or the school’s study hall time, but in a forest up the mountain at an abandoned cabin. Somehow, this is a more practical location…
Then, of course, the guy also uses it. He has a more legit reason, but of course he is a gentleman and never takes advantage of the girl. The owner of the cabin also never appears lol. It would’ve been more fun if their sudden appearance was incorporated into the story. It would’ve also made more sense since there was running water and electricity there.
I digress.
Other than this premise which requires suspension of disbelief, this first half of the story about two high schoolers gradually falling in love was told in such an organic manner that, despite the cliche plot, the characters gradually make you fall in love with them too. All the jokes hit the right notes and unfortunately it was severely lacking in the second half after the time skip when they became adults.
The second half had so many kdrama cliches done terribly that you start wondering whether the first half’s writing quality was written by another person lol. Otherwise, I think the webtoon artist did a good job adapting this from a novel. I can tell they really loved the novel themselves.
The other thing I noticed was the lack of female friendship or support in the girl’s life. I get that she was a loner in school with the lone wolf mentality, but for her to still have that attitude in adulthood without changing despite the “character development” (?) (honestly questionable), was rather disappointing.
And let’s not even talk about her “compulsive streak” at the climax of the story. That’s gotta be the most offensive trope the author could have injected into the story. She might as well have been another person with that impulsive recklessness when the first half of the story showed her as calculatingly smart.
TL;DR
First half: 10/10 would definitely re-read despite how cliche the plot outline sounds. It’s executed very well.
Second half: 7/10 - typical. Also some adult content that’s censored 😅
