I'm going to be the downer in this party here. The story is very cute and the characters are very sweet, but the manga itself is amazingly hard to read. The paneling is an absolute disaster. This is one of those manga where every panel is filled with facial closeups or sparklies or something similar, and there isn't nearly enough line variation or tone. Half the time I have difficulty following the specifics of what's happening, so I keep missing things and then missed plot points hit me like a sack of bricks a few pages down the road.
That isn't even mentioning the fact that there are Only Six Faces in this manga. Sometimes even the kids look the same.... or the same character looks completely different than what he looked like last chapter... or he was just a random add-on character who got panel space without being introduced. It's horrendously confusing. There's just too much of nothing in each panel and it makes it really hard to follow.
I'm giving it a fairly high rating because of the sugar sweet story, but really, it was hard to read.

Boku wa Ne is unrealistic even by shoujo manga standards -- but the characters, their emotional conflicts and their everyday interactions are so pure and touching that such considerations recede rapidly into the back of your mind.
I read books 2 - 4 all at once, and by the time I finished, my mouth and cheeks were painfully sore owing to the wide smile that had been etched across my face for the good part of two hours.
Being a huge fan of makeshift families, I found Akihito's devotion to Tetsuta and Aya most adorable - and like the previous comments state, his living in their house has nothing to do with any romantic feelings he may have for Akechi. Akechi loves his deceased wife dearly and would never consider another partner (male or female) - nor does Akihito expect such a thing from him.
Their relationship is actually quite difficult to define. It's an odd mixture of senpai-kouhai, friends, employer-employee...but definitely not that of two people who are secretly in love with each other. So those who dislike BL need have no qualms about reading this manga.
If you love slightly humorous, occasionally dramatic, mostly peaceful slice-of-life-themed family stories, Boku wa Ne is something you must at least try.
The art is just right - pretty and cute, but not as elaborately beautiful as artwork from romance manga of this demographic.
It's a shame that Fujiwara Kiyo has now joined the many thousands of authors who write only cliche love stories. But I guess mangaka have to eat too...and Boku wa Ne isn't the sort of series that would have as massive a reader base as, say, Arakure. *Sigh*

What an adorable manga this is! The depiction of the makeshift family comprising of the father, son, daughter and new housekeeper is a tried-and-true formula; the only deviation which Boku Wa Ne makes from the norm is that the 'housekeeper' is a guy.
The messages given out during the course of the tale are very simple and sweet, but still essential for the happiness of any family. The importance of trust, sincerity, honesty, proper expression of feelings and, most importantly, love and affection among family members is strongly emphasized throughout the story.
I feel very disappointed that the only people who've commented here are BL fans. Though there are very mild implications (the housekeeper is quite pretty, after all, and has a strong bond of friendship with the father), there is NO overt shounen-ai here- so don't expect it.

i'm not one to go for something not shounen-ai/yaoi, but i must say that even if there are hints, i love the way it was heartwarming and very touching. a pure family manga. if it were made into an anime or jdrama, i'd definitely watch! if you're looking for something to calm you down and if you're searching for that "awww" factor in mangas, this will answer your prayers.
the development of the characters and how it's weaved in each story go hand in hand. i don't think you can imagine having those kinds of situations with different kinds of characters. XD; definitely a MUST READ.

This is absolutely one of my favourite stories. It was one of my first mangas that I really fell for. The characters are adorable, the stories nice. I really hope I will get a chance to finish it.
And regarding the possibility of the story being shounen-ai, you can definetly sense the feeling but the story so far have never made anything clear about the feelings between Aki and his senpai. And yes, I did sense this BEFORE I became BL-crazy. Anyway, it's truly beautiful!

This is a manga that you should not miss!!! The family members are so funny and have such awesome personalities... The workaholic but cares-a-lot-about-his-family father, the cute son, the daughter (though doesn't move the story much) and also the new family member, Aki-chan, the new housekeeper who is also Aya's (the daughter) kindergarten teacher.
The days they go through, the relationship and the funny times they experience together is just hilarious... If you disregard the children, Akechi's (father) handsomeness and Aki's beauty would make you think this is a lovely touching shounen-ai manga (this is just my thinking though... =P)... But still, this is one awesome, tear-jerking, full-of-laughter manga which you should NOT miss!!! ^^
