Couldn't get through it

I couldn't get past the 8th chapter. The main character and most of the side characters were incredibly irritating. The main character is especially the sort of endlessly self sacrificing type which goes well beyond idiotic and straight into lack of self respect. From what I understand (by reading spoilers), this type of behavior does not change. Story and characters seem to encourage self sacrifice and pouring out emotional labor and energy into toxic relationships where there is no reciprocation.

When i first read the summary, i though the plot would mostly revolve around Sachi & Yuki But wow, was i wrong.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Though Sachi deeply loves Yuki, he's still hung over someone from his past who was also one of Sachi's best friends.
At the beginning i thought that Akemi & Yuuhei would be the mature, level headed couple while everyone were "the kids confused yet curious about love". but i felt after
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
she and Yuki were caught kissing, causing Akemi/Yuuhei to break up
they sort of "Fell from that grace" if you get what i mean, She seemed just as confused about Love as Sachi did and Yuuhei becomes an Sympathetic yet Comic relief character. Despite the drama no one was all "You cheater!" "You bitch! how could you do that to me?!" or "I'll never forgive you!" Even if they were hurting there was maturity and forgiving, Everyone still felt innocent despite the things they've done, If that makes sense Lol. And i can't lie i was Completely rooting for Sachi/Yuki. though it bugged me how it felt an little forced that Sachi got smitten so quickly at the goukon. But as time passed as she and Yuki got closer, I definitely felt they were meant to be.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I know most are pissed she didn't end up with Akahoshi even though he liked and wanted to be with her. But Sachi loved Yuki, she couldn't forget him or just switch off her feelings like an On/Off switch And she didn't want to use Akahoshi, (I loved how she knew that wasn't right, I really admired her for that.) Besides i'm tired of people getting pissed off at certain love-triangles regarding the girl never picks the nice guy, sure he's nice but if she doesn't feel anything for him why be with him? she just leading him on and she, herself is unhappy in an one-sided relationship.

The art reminds me of an cross between Mimori Ao and Nakahara Aya More realistic looking then the Cutesy, big-eyed moe style seen in Shoujos.

Overall an Interesting read.

This feeling...

This manga gave me a feeling... you know, that feeling you can never place?! Yup. It's hard to describe... it's like, it makes me want to run around the house yelling, and maybe crying at the same time? .... No? That makes me seem crazy...

ANYWAYS, it.... I was certainly hooked on it. I mean, sometimes I got reallllly annoyed with the characters (I was reading it really late, and literally just slammed my screen shut and went to bed at one point lol), but then I realized that they were really... honest... in a weird way. At least most of the characters. Sa-chan was one of the most honest heroines I have ever seen, and although she cried a lot, she WAS really strong. It was... endearing. Instead of getting annoyed at her emotions, I felt along with her.

I think I really liked the ending. It was very hopeful, and.... full of giving you that... feeling?

All in all, it wasn't the best; I believe it to be somewhere in between decent and very good. Hm. Yes.

I actually really like this...

Yeah, it goes round and round in circles, but there's still very important and realistic character growth happening between each "rotation" of the plot, lol. Which is to say - I think that people often actually behave like this in real life, as in, they break up without meaning to, and then they get back together to resolve what couldn't be resolved before, and end up breaking up again because they can't recapture the past. THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENS.

I found this TONNES better than most shoujo manga that don't grasp this sort of complexity... Sure, the characters make stupid mistakes, but so do many other people in the real world. At least I didn't think any of the mistakes they made were inconsistent with their characterizations or were psychologically unrealistic... As is the case in 90% of shoujo. I much prefer reading this to some unrealistic baloney about a "one true love" that never fades.

I thought the characterization of the lead male was AWESOME. There are people who are just that afraid of love, and just as oblivious until life smacks 'em upside their silly little heads. I like the fact that he had this quiet sort of melancholy to him, along with the surface smiles - that kind of vulnerability is rare in the male heroes of shoujo manga. This guy's more of an anti-hero, anyway. I mean, there's no way I'd date him at the beginning (argh!), but I can understand why some women might want to, and I do appreciate that he's actually a good person. What's great about this manga is that it charts his VERY GENUINE character growth - by the end of it, he does become the sort of guy I wouldn't mind dating, even if at the start, the very sight of a guy with such apparently "loose" morals would drive me off faster than a jet engine.

Really good characterizations and a story worth reading. I only wish it was a little longer, and showed the male and female leads in an actual relationship, although I can foresee just from the ending that things will go well for them (barring the occasional angst attacks that one might expect in any fledgling romance). I just wanted to see the guy actually live out his new potential, that's all... I wanted to see him being devoted to her. Well, I guess we DO see that, just not as much as I'd have liked...

Still, way better than most shoujo romances. I rate this a 9 and strongly recommend it to people that like their coffee bitterwseet. smile

I can't belive, that was so good.. It was just a simple shoujo, with schematic plot, but it gives me so much! This was like someone was stealing my heart.. In the beginning, I coudn't understand, how Sachi can behave like that, with this idiotic smile. But later, it completely gets me! I cried so many tears, that my head was going to explode.. Seriously.. Read it! It's worth it!

The couple pairing can make or break the deal, honestly. It's a good read depending on who you want to end up together.

Sadly it was a let down for meT.T

Although this could really be classified as cliche shoujo, this manga did have its bits. I found it to be more mature than lots of shoujo manga in more ways than just the art style. I found the drama and conflict between the characters convincing, especially in Yuki's case.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Despite his love for Akemi being really distasteful and obviously unhealthy, I found it to be really interesting. This manga somewhat reminded me of Bokura Ga Ita in this sense as both main guys get caught up in drama between his friends and end up inflicting pain upon themselves, feeling that they are the source of pain for others. They are selfish (in that Yuki wanted to pursue Akemi no matter what) but also selfless (telling Sachi off because he is afraid of hurting her, knowing the type of person he is very well).

I found Yuki to be noble nonetheless and in response to one of the reviews about feeling that Yuki and Sachi's meeting was forced...I mean, I really feel like that is a true portrayal of how high school love works, especially for people who are trying to find someone and who has never been in a relationship before. I thought this story was sweet in its portrayal of a girl falling in love for the first time, especially with a guy more experienced than her (another similarity to BGI), and I felt that her struggle to overcome an unhealthy obsession (let's admit it, that's what it was) was very convincing.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
However, of course, Sachi doesn't ever get over it no matter how much Akahoshi gives her all the proper treatment and attention. I mean, it is literally someone throwing themselves at you saying "here, use me to get over your ex boyfriend." Realistically, I've never seen shit like that go down and it's usually "wtf, you never loved me?" (Akemi/Yuuhei's case for a little bit), but that really annoyed me. The manga was taking a really mature direction of learning how to move on from your first love/failure of realizing your love to things just...working out, no matter how disturbed Sachi was.

I loved Akahoshi, though. He was probably the best character for me as he was hot, really fucking nice, and the only character in the manga that had more than two brain cells. I loved his maturity and the way he
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
talked to Sachi about Yuki and talked to Yuki about getting over his love. I felt like that's how things should have done down for Sachi, but instead her constant bickering thoughts dribbled down to the same shit she said in the first few chapters...which now that I think of it, is pretty disappointing.

I suppose in terms of character development, this manga kind of blows. I mean,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
things were looking bright every time Sachi said "I'm never seeing you again," but this never held true ever and Sachi ultimately never got over Yuki. Another thing that bothered me was her revelation in regards to Akahoshi's treatment of her, believing that he isn't what she needed (someone to catch her) as she needed someone to "teach her how to stand up." While that looks good in theory, it is such a shitty mindset. I mean, Yuki is essentially "teaching her how to stand up" by herself by pushing her down every time. That...is awful. And I'm sick of stories about learning life lessons through mistakes. This manga gave the promise of an innocent girl walking through and surviving the realm of love. This, to me, did not mean naive perseverance for the sake of an asshole, but I don't know...some mature development.

Anyway, this all reinforces the fact of why this manga is considered a cliche shoujo anyways. I appreciated Sachi's efforts as well as Akahoshi, Yuki, and Yuuhei's, but in the end, somehow
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I just couldn't get over how everyone was able to just "forget" (although they explicitly said they learned from not forgetting, it is essentially forgetting in Sachi and Yuki's case) the emotions and turmoil they experienced just a few months ago and essentially end up picking the "second best choice." I was not convinced at all that somehow after months of contemplating, Yuki suddenly like loves Sachi now. I understand how Akahoshi gives up Sachi to Yuki, seeing that he is observant etc, but that just shows that Akahoshi is unable to think of ways to improve himself...and while Yuki may have unknowingly liked Sachi all along and needed Akemi as closure from some unfinished middle school business, his behavior after their break up is unjustified. Ah, whatever...

Sucks to suck? I'm also not even going to bring up Akemi who never seemed to get any reprimand (other than from herself) for her actions. Points weigh mostly on Akahoshi...

Good Shoujo

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
Art (10%): 8
Just average art but it fits the characters. The art also feels more grownup and realistic than a lot of shoujo which fits the story.

Story (40%): 8
The story itself is an average and predictable shoujo. What makes it good is how natural and realistic the story is. I can imagine the relationship problems actually occurring.

Character (40%): 9
The characters are pretty cliche but they are likable. None of the characters are particularly remarkable but that makes it realistic. There are also realistic amounts of character development.

Enjoyment (10%): 10
I don't know exactly why I enjoy reading the story so much. It could be that I love the pure love that Sachi has for Yuki or the development in their relationship.

Total Score: 8.6
