21 Volumes (Complete)

I liked this manga a lot. Taisuke is a very likeable protagonist and while I didn't really like most of the villains all that much, they were interesting in their own way that I didn't get bored whenever the manga's point of view shifted to show us what they were doing.
The first story arc does follow the monster of the week... err... comrade of the week formula to some extent where Taisuke runs into another comrade who he invariably ends up fighting. In some cases, this leads to a truce or alliance while others remain enemies that vow to get him later due to being already allied with Katsumata.
There are a few points, particularly in the second story arc, where things drag a bit, but it's wasn't dragging to the extent that I found myself considering the idea of dropping this manga from my reading list without finishing it. Yes, I do agree with the sentiments that the ending felt a bit rushed and could have used more chapters to let things develop more slowly. However it is also known that the author finished writing this manga from his death bed. If going for a few more chapters would have meant risking the possibility that he would have died before finishing this manga, leaving it forever incomplete unless someone else finished it off without knowing his intentions, I think that rushing it to the conclusion was the way to go.
This series deserves the spot, so I don't kinda understand some of your complaints. The coherency is somehow messed up at times, but fine overall. The only regret is the ending pairing. Should be the other girl you all know.
Reading this and some others, like Biomeat, ARMS or Parasites which I like a lot, I wonder how the likes of Bleach and Naruto can be so popular? because they are for kids, not quite right? Hope fanboys don't kill me 😛
A lot of the comments have been degrading the second arc, and how the first arc was all it was worth... but that's not true. Alive has a pretty linear storyline, and the difference and the gap between the first and second arcs aren't that great. There isn't any point in stopping halfway, and if you think it's confusing, then you need a better hold if the English language or read the raws. It is true that it is can be pretty ugly and dark but suck it up, there's worse out there.
the only complaint that i have is
Megumi should have just gone with Mitama into space and Nami should get Taisuke, because Megumi did nothing to deserve him
One of the best shounen manga if not top one.
And i want to say this to people that have "oryginality" problem -
naturally most shounen manga are similar, same genre doh..
I have read 11 volumes in one go, so atleast give it a try :3
Woah! When I read this I had to re-read it again and again. Anyway this series is EXCELLENT. One of the very few I'm collecting. But the only down side in volume four it slacks off in the art department and the story is a little predictable. Still the story takes an usual twist to the normal, "I HAVE MORE POWER THAN YOU!". Where the main character has to use smarts alot instead of power.
In the beginning, artists were trying too hard to be purely shonen. From that the style became off and because they were beginners they were trying a bit too hard. But later they became more refine and their effects become better.
I'm up to the fifth volume and if you like a well paced story I suggest you pick this one up! It is really great!
I decided to give this a try. Unfortunetly, I couldn't find anything about it. And when I did find something about it, it was about another manga with the same name. I thought it was a romance at first until the 2nd chapter. This is very Shounen action.
It's pretty good too so far. 3 chapters, about to read the fourth.
Anyways, give this a try if you like Naruto, Gantz, and Hunter X Hunter, It can get gory though, Around HxH level, Not Gantz level, atleast not yet.
One of the best shonen out there. The dynamic among the characters is complex and interesting. There are quite a few emotional moments as well. I feel that the manga could go on much more as there are a lot to explore as well as some questions unanswered. However, Tadashi sensei wrote this on his sick bed, and he had to wrap up everything fast due to his health condition. The last chapter was published not long before his death.
it was ehn. Taisuke pissed me off a lot. your typical 'one punch spew morality' bullshit 'hero.' just 'i have a power that i wont use to stop bad people i want to stop because they're killing people but i wont do anything because i dont want to get blood on my hands because i'm a good guy. i'm so sad people are dying oh look i'll PUNCH this murderer because i got a little upset.' for christs sake it's like authors can't bear to dirty their precious little protagonist because even hurting a mass murderer will be end of the good guy's morality.
god it's like the main characters are just made of cake and honey gee that's great why don't you guys just go have a tea party or something instead of trying to save all of humanity.
Idea: Great!
execution: mediocre shonen crap
realism/excitement/believability: 0
fucks i give for rereading this: 0
Too many convenient resolutions in the story. Makes me wonder why I bothered to read so much of the stuff leading up to it.
like when taisuke loses his memories and everyone's sad and we're led to believe he has to gradually remember stuff with the help of others and im getting caught up like 'oh no howre they gonna remind him' and starting to feel sad: but NO his memories conveniently flood back in like 2 pages and he's just all like 'omg sorry i forgot you guys i remember EVERYTHING now. okay im ready now let's go get the bad guys.' and everyone's like 'haha okay welcome back!' seriously? wtf. and like how every freakin supporting character miraculously survives all these mind-blowing catastrophes and mass destruction where buildings collapse and everyone else dies. and like a single death of a side character needs an entire arc and everyone STOPS the battle to mourn and give taisuke time to get 'mad' and do some heroic punch or something. freakin great. the bad guy kills everyone and wipes out an army but you're going to run up so you can throw some stupid punch at him because you're sad you couldn't get off your dumb ass to do something useful earlier but you still dont want to resort to using your powers because they might HURT someone. and taisuke conveniently and miraculously is able to dodge attacks that can wipe out BUILDINGS because that's his 'talent.' and and ... you know what? no no screw it. ALIENS. ALIENS explain everything. that's why. you know why?? because ALIENS.
Other than Naruto and Bleach, I've never tried Shonen mangas much. This one actually was interesting and had me hooked. But that's mainly because of my interest in a lot of fights, blood, action etc. And the plot line is really good-- at least to me. 🙂
One another note I especially liked it because
there was a sufficient amount of angsty, one sided romance in the first arc, which I liked. Being a mainly shoujo reader, I gotta see some romance. And this series had it. I liked how crazy Hirose goes when Megu isn't with him/ thinking about Taisuke. I'm not sure if there are any couples that get together, but if there are I am hoping for Hirose and Megu! >.< Mainly because he seems to need her.
Hopefully it still keeps me engaged later in the series.
One of favorite mangas ever, if not my most favorite manga ever.
I started reading this, mostly because I had free time and wanted to read something.I didn't have a thought that I might end up loving this.At the start it seemed a bit weird to me but as the story progressed the plot and characters became deeper and at one moment I noticed that I'm already loving this XD
I'm always carving for more <3
