21 Volumes (Complete)

okay... i love this manga but i will stop reading this one because alive will be adapted into an anime series... i´ll finish reading this after I watched the anime...
however alive is really catching i almost spend the whole day reading the manga.
Just one word the comment 4 this comic, "AWESOME", with a compliment stories and a nice art from Adachitoka and a really great stories from Kawashima Tadashi. Cia Yo..^^'
I wish this manga was better because the artists absolutely kill it, but the writing is pure nonsense. Sloppy plotting, tons and tons and tons of unnecessary characters, a storyline that constantly fails to entice (we have to go retrieve x, okay we found x, we failed to get x, rinse and repeat ad nauseam), half-assed amnesia subplots, annoying to downright despicable side characters, anticlimactic battles, an absolute plethora of frivolous antagonists, and classic shounen trappings like tacked on romance, disgustingly underwritten female characters and uncomfortable ecchi bait, awful do-gooder MC that refuses to win a single fight, over reliance on characters simply forgetting about their powers so fights don't end in one page, an obsession with high concepts with zero emotional core to them, and middle school philosophizing... it's just awful, awful stuff. But the art is really, really good. So props to those guys for creating an at least halfway legible piece of sequential storytelling with what they were given. Passable ending too.
I gave this up after about 10 chapters because I just hate the main character. He seems to care more about Hirose than he does about his childhood friend who was kidnapped by Hirose. He’s also putting his poor sister through hell. Does he not realize that Keeping and her in the dark about what’s going on is actually more dangerous. His stupidity is at such a high level that it’s painful to read. Most manga only get worse as the story goes on so I’m just going to bow out now before I spend 2 night reading all 21 volumes and regretting it.
So i agree with the rest that the first arc was amazing. I really liked it, and the second arc was much weaker in comparison. Putting that aside it was still a very good story. The only real flaw I saw, which others stated, is the goals/desires of the characters...some were never explained and others changed. The one thing that bothered me the most was Hirose.
I mean at first it made sense that he resented being helped all the time and never doing anything...and that he wished he could atract Megu, but in the end it seemed that he was truely just trying to kill Taisuke....I think that if Hirose was more clear of a character in the second arc, along with some of the emotions that were brought out from the first arc this story would be much better. But I still give it a 8 out of 10
Like many said the first arc is very good. I really liked the suicide thing. If that would have continued elaborating more on the aliens and having the story take place amid the apocolypse it would have been much better. The second arc i am having to force myself to read. I dont really understand the point of anything going on. I am also finding the point of the chatacters having powers to be really useless. No ones motives really make any sense and the story is loosing all of the potential it had. And thats sad because it had alot... Oh well
Not the best, but not bad compare to other manga. to tell u the truth this manga was really good, and had its bad time. It ending just right.
I respect this manga ending as the author put his all into it while being on his deathbed
"tadashi kawahima, may you RIP" (salut)
This manga have almost everything for a great manga
Likable main protagonist
Brilliant side characters
Nice additions of Romance and Humor
Awesome artworks
Well developed and a nice ending
But the story... urg... I appreciate the fact this is not a boring Goods vs Bads shounen and the author added his own thought while he was in his death bed.
However, the story is so dull and it really does not make sense at the end or it's too complicated for me to understand.
Overall, it's still worth reading
The series has a promising start. The suicide premise was rather original and interesting. As the story progressed, it became the typical journey found in most shounen series, but it was still entertaining to see the unique powers, history, and trauma of each of the heroes and villains.
Now that the first arc has ended, the story isn't as entertaining. There's a ton of new heroes and villains but not enough background about them to get a good sense of their personalities, histories, and goals to keep me interested.
This manga is an enticing read. The manga touches upon various themes revolving around social interactions and life decisions, and how it affects people's lives, ranging from familial interactions to interactions with strangers, to bullies to friends. It connects characters in a subtle way. To me, it manages to pull off character interactions charmingly.
I've also read that some consider it shounen, but based on the themes it touches on which essentially revolves around life in spite of death, it is definitely seinen.
Younger readers might not get it (god knows why), but the manga is about more than super powers colliding with each other. It offers a variety of insights into life and what it means to be a good person.
The character interaction in this manga might seem stiff and brainless the first few volumes because the protagonist appeared like the typical shounen lead who'd show mercy to anyone and everyone, but in the later volumes (I'm up to 9), when it gets deeper into the plot with more characterization built up and back stories revealed, the protagonist stops seeming so typical because there's more to his actions than just being good-natured. As for the reasons behind his actions, I suggest you read the manga.
Also, as of the end of volume 8, or when the second phase began, Taisuke's probably one of my favorite protagonists right up there with Guts and Kurono.
