I liked The Horizon, but most of the things in the story are left to the reader, which is something I don't like, other than that, the drawings were really beautiful, the theme was quite dark and triggering hatred against humanity, and the messages and dialogues given in the series were already in parallel with these. I think it is an enjoyable series even if it is not as good as it is exaggerated.

Hidden Gem - worth the read

Be sure you know what you are getting into before hand. This is a pretty serious story that has a slightly darker theme than Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.

A nice, alternative style

The format is more reminiscent of artsy French comic, I think a lot of people will find it interesting. I would recommend not to read it in a smartphone because the lettering could be too small, and a big screen could encompass the readers more thoroughly into the dark ink. Personally it's a bit too heavy handed with the prose chosen, I think not writing anything and let the art speak for itself would be better.

I have complaints, but I love it

Works by JH are always masterpieces. This one is no exception. I love yet hate this webtoon.

Why did the girl have to die! Why! Why! Whyyyyyyy! She was given an ENTIRE backstory and the boy didn't even have ANY history to him at all. We got emotionally connected to the girl, and then she dies almost immediately. The author hath given and the author hath taketh -- I felt like we, the readers, were just being tormented at that point.

And I can understand but don't agree with the time gap on how the boy aged. He went from young to old with no explanation at all. I get the literary concept of this timeskip in an artistic sense, but realistically speaking, it's not plausible that he lived through his WHOLE life with no friends or comrades. It's implied that he went through war. Civilization didn't advance? He didn't get tied down to his life, didn't meet any friends, he just lived life in a shack? That's unrealistic to me.

That man in the suit was also a significant plot point in the story. He seemed forgettable since he also died too, but it was an important deciding factor in the sense of humanity and ethics for the boy and girl. They were so wise in how they "passed the tests", because honestly some of us would've failed it. Even I don't know what I'd do. But this story cements the idea that you must never lose that conscience and innocence within. The world's at war, but you don't need to be part of that violence, because then that's your conscious choice to succumb to violence. JH's works are all about love. Don't lose yourself to hate.

Now, rants aside: for starters, I love the beautifully raw art. The author is able to portray the darker things in a subtle yet implicating way. The drawings are simple, but the details are shown in the smaller things. The story is so "quiet", yet the action scenes are so jarring. Also, love the third person narration.

Second, I really appreciate the deep meaning behind this webtoon. This really makes you question the deeper things in life. Most people need to encounter death first to appreciate life. And admittedly, most of us reading the webtoon are living comfortable lives. We have small chances of going through something as traumatic as what the boy went through.

So after reading this... I hope everyone understands the message. Don't ever give up. The world can be a peaceful one of love!

In particular, I love how the art of this work is used to give an extra dimension to the narrative. I don't want to indulge you with any details about it because I think you should discoverd it by yourself. This manhwa brought tears to my eyes somewhat a lot.

This was originally done in book format, which is what most users are familiar with since it was the version used in the English translation, fortunately.
It was then adapted into longstrip format, which is the version linked in the description (although naver also hosts the book version).
French and Thai translations also used the longstrip.

This manwha is short, but it contains a lot. If I had to summarize the experience, it would be like coming out of the shower and jumping into bed. Everything is cold and uncomfortable at first, but once you settle in and get passed the hardest part you're filled with comfort. You still may be a bit wet but you are comfortable nonetheless.

Read this. It took me an hour from start to finish, and it is now one of my favorites. The paneling was excellent and the story is well paced. It's mostly told through art, a wonderful example of show don't tell.
