From the cover and the summary, you might expect this to be just another shoujo manga featuring one girl and two boys. Right?
Wrong. This is more intelligent and subtle than the usual shoujo fare. For starters, the heroine isn't your uber-genki air-head with nothing but romance on her mind -- instead, she's a sturdy, occasionally crabby teenager who is too pragmatic to angst or to be ridiculously romantic. Her good heart is balanced by her good sense -- a rare thing among manga characters -- and she doesn't immediately start entertaining incestuous thoughts about her new step-brother, like most shoujo heroines do. Instead, she continues to have a fruitful and sweet relationship with her boyfriend (who used to be her childhood friend), and if there are inklings of attraction between her and her step-brother, they're subtly and carefully rendered.
This is really an excellent read. Absorbing, interesting and mature.
Not to mention that it's great for dog lovers! Aw, the puppy love! (And I mean real puppies, here!)
