Kono Oto Tomare!

Description

Since the graduation of the senior members of the club, Takezou ends up being the sole member of the "Koto" (traditional Japanese string instrument) club. Now that the new school year has begun, Takezou will have to seek out new members into the club, or the club will become terminated. Out of nowhere, a new member barges into the near-abandoned club room, demanding to join the club. How will Takezou be able to keep his club alive and deal with this rascal of a new member?

The "Insert Subject Here Otaku" manga formula is tried and true. You find them everywhere nowadays. Guitar otaku romance! Cooking otaku sports! Zoology otaku battle shonen! Modern manga is obsessed with subjects and it often feels like reading blurbs from a textboook interspersed with appealing character designs. Kono Oto Tomare is obsessed with the koto, the way it's played, the way it's learned, the way it sounds. It's written by a certified knows their shit expert on the subject. But Kono Oto Tomare isn't just about koto. It's not even just about romance, or competition. It's about music, and the way it pulls every aspect of life into its gravitational pull. It's about music changing lives and giving people meaning and bringing people who would otherwise never in a million years ever come together, together. It's about the human connections that come from music, the struggles of confronting music, the pain that comes with a spartan devotion to music, and the joys of simply being able to create music. Kono Oto Tomare really gets to the heart of what this shit is really all about. It portrays music as visual phenomena, its emotional weight, the live or die feeling of getting up on stage before an audience you can barely even see knowing you've got 6 minutes to put it all on the line. And... it's got masterful romance and character writing on top of all that. There are some things about its themes of abuse and forgiveness that can be really grating, but meet this series halfway and it'll carry you straight to the finish line with visual splendor and decompressed storytelling at its finest. Just... don't watch the anime. Trust me on that. And if you're scared of a little shoujo in your shonen kindly show yourself out the door. And Chika x Satowa forever. I would die for those kids.

Kono Oto Tomare! is definitely a must read for sure! It's an emotional rollercoaster ride and there are a lot of moments where it touches your heart. The true meaning of friendship, camarederie, trust, you name it, are the main highlights in this manga. The characters development is just insane! One of the best slice of life mange I've ever read!!!

Chapter 109 is the absolute bomb! ♥
It just gets better in each chapter!

I love the dynamics of this manga. I just wish the anime would be extended until the whole series is done and over. I mean, I would really love to hear the music behind the story.

Everybody who loves music should read this. It's is simply beautiful.

If you like good characters, character growth and want to read a story about friends who truly support each other, this story is also right up your alley!
It's cute, it's funny, it's moving, inspiring and uplifting. I love this.

Please read it. It'll brighten your day. (And watch the anime or videos on youtube, the songs are very beautiful)

A very well written and touching manga. I am only giving it a 9 because there are certain moments and progression that feel slightly unrealistic, rushed or artificial (mostly in the beginning). But this is a very small portion of the overall story and does not detract from its overall strength. The artwork is beautiful, the characters are relatively unique and yet strong in each of their own ways, and the author is able to convey the emotion in the key moments of the story. Highly recommended.

This is a manga that, regardless of your interest in music, you'll find exceptional in any genre. The story is not unique - a ragtag bunch with dissimilar backgrounds and different motivations come together to overcome obstacles. But the presentation and plot development is phenomenal IMO. It doesn't hurt that the art is terrific.

The character development is fantastic among the main characters and even the side characters, who initially literally serve as just warm bodies, are eventually developed so you have some investment in them as well.

There is romance, but it is a slow burn which means it's earned and not just pushed at the reader like so many 'single instant-blush = love' moments in other manga.

Well worth your time.

Back when I was a high school student. I was a member of a music club. And how we the teacher treated us bad made us to be strong. Very nostalgic feeling. I really moved with every scene. And saw myself in them.

well, actually music manga isn't my cup of a tea but this manga is different, everything in this manga, all of the element I really looove it. the development between the member of the club captured really well IMO and it moved me, and makes me curious about koto instrumental.

So far so good, this manga has 3 main protagonist with each unique and interesting personality.

Usually mangas about Music is better off in the anime format but not in this case, the mangaka has captured the blissful essence in a very effective manner that makes you care for what they do...they share a great chemistry between them and i also see a sweet budding romance between the 2 main characters in the future (Plz make it happne ^_^ )

only 4 chapters in and it's already become one of the must read mangas IMO

RECOMMENDED!
