I was surprised it turned out much better than I expected. Its fairly light and is a really fast read which I liked.
Like other reviewers have mentioned Yuno is a pretty awesome character. Yandere characters are often presented either as a bit goofy and unhinged or completely psychotic. Yuno is occasionally funny but is mainly scary psychotic and strangely sympathetic. You end up rooting for Yuno, which is a pretty awesome achievement by the author. As you can see by other reviewers comments, everyone loves Yuno.
I think Yuki gets unfairly bashed by some reviewers. He's not a wuss 100% of the time, more like 75% of the time lol. 1st in his defense he's a pretty lonely kid, who's never had friends and comes from a broken home. His folks are never around, so he's never had a role model for bravery. He only knows how to protect himself by not being involved and living in his fantasy world. This is how his character was written, if you are looking for a character that constantly betters himself then read Kenichi (HSDK), if you want continuous powerups against bigger and badder bosses then read Dragonball or Bleach. Yuki is a flawed and immature character (he's a kid not even in High School) that sometimes acts bravely and other times acts cowardly. He sometimes makes mistakes and bad decisions and sometimes good ones. 2nd he's not always a wimp. He takes down some major characters himself, rescues Yuno, and even shoots some people. 3rd and most importantly what some don't realize is that if Yuki was a badass he wouldn't need Yuno! If he was stronger he might not want her around and Yuno wouldn't have a chance to shine. I mean part of what's hilarious here is that
the guy has to keep around and rely on his psychotic stalker!
It wouldn't happen if Yuki was too strong willed of a character and it would change the relationship and role of Yuno.
My complaints about this manga is that there are some weaknesses in character motivations and backgrounds. Really the strongest fleshed out characters are Yuki and Yuno. Some of the other characters are thin and not well developed. Some situations are glossed over or rushed thru and there are a few plot holes.
As I was reading this I thought the Manga might be a 7 or 7.5, but it got better especially towards the end with some twists raising my final score. The very final end was a bit of typical shonen ending which I didn't think they needed and maybe took a bit away from everything. All that said I think the final 10-15 chapters were pretty strong and raised my score to an 8. I recommend it.
