It was interesting.

The manga was pretty entertaining overall. I found that the plot was a bit jumbled, but at least it wasn't too confusing. My favourite points are the comedy and while the art style gets inconsistent in places, I really like it~
There were some things that bothered me though:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I was livid at the part where it made you think Tooru might have had sex with his ex Eiko, and Masami seeing them. What she did was extremely appalling! I mean, given her intentions were not supposed to be malicious, that is one twisted way to freak out Tooru, and then she steals the key only to be all, "look how much he loves you with this~~" YOU SHOULD'VE CLEARED THE MISUNDERSTANDING RIGHT AWAY. UGH.

And while I like the main couple, Masayoshi and Arisawa, I found their growth pretty daunting. Sure people change, but I feel like Arisawa's appearance change was different! And that he became the seme, aaaa I was hoping it wasn't going to turn out that way, but at least the gave you signs xP I don't mind it too much, though. And I think it's an aspect other readings might actually enjoy or find refreshing!

So yeah overall, it's a pretty good read. I wouldn't be rereading it anytime soon coz of how long it is, but glad I read it once.

Sweet Nostalgia.

This was my first BL manga way back in the 90s. Back then, you had to own the actual book & read the translations off Aestheticism. It likes to play on your expectations; the guy who seems like a sweet innocent uke turns out to be possessive pervert, the guy who seems like a jerk seme turns out to be a magnet for sexual predators.

After rereading it after so many years, I'm positive this series had a lot of influence on Hinako Takanaga's "Koisuru Boukun."

I also have to say...Not since Noblesse have I seen so many art changes. It's for the best mind you; Kodaka's style just evolved & improved rapidly from volume to volume. It's somewhat comparable to Aoike Yasuko's current style, as well as Kazuya Minekura & the Akira movie; all of the women look very masculine. Her characters all have their own distinctive facial designs, so you'll never confuse one character for another. Masayoshi for example is significantly more dazzling than any other character; his hair going back & forth between red & blonde. as the series progresses, he starts looking quite a bit like the lovechild of Genjou Sanzo from Gensoumaden Saiyuki & Klaus Eberbach from Eroica Yori Ai wo Komette.

However, while in most BL stories where misunderstanding lead into a lot of drama, tears, & readers groaning & rolling their eyes, here it leads to comedy & plans backfiring spectacularly in the planers' faces.

How to raise a great seme! - a must read!

First off let me say that I'm with the people who are a bit skeptical at the beginning!
The art is outdated, panels and pages can be confusing and there's characters you're not sure you can like.
What got me the most was the fact that you can so tell that this was draw in the early 90s, the terrible outfits and even worse hairstyles are just too much!
I found them ridiculous and it was hard to see the supposedly good looking people in this!

But! Please do not give up this series just because you don't like the beginning! It gets better, much better, with every volume and when you finally reach the end - it was all so worth it and it will leave you feeling amazing!

This is a perfect work for people who enjoy seeing character growth, and a lot of it! Not only do the characters here grow as people, learn, overcome obstacles and become more mature, they also chance hairstyles to fit the trends, as well as clothes and last but not least, THEY GROW UP!

The 10 volumes of this manga span over 3 years - Atsushi's first day at the new high school to his graduation (and there will be another time skip in the extras and doujinshi works)
It's simply amazing to see Atsushi grow taller, older and wiser! He is such a little boy at the beginning, a naive child who seemingly easy fall in love. Shibata sensei is a jerk at the start - and an unattractive one at that!
But just keep reading and I promise you will fall in love with the both of them!

Around the 4th volume, the art gets a boost into the right direction and by the time you reach the 9th and 10th volumes, the art is perfection!

You will be rewarded for reading through the whole thing. It's a slow build up, and actually there's no sex scenes until
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the 10th Volume I believe ... at least not for the main couple
but it's very much worth reading the whole series.
The feeling is just indescribable when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
at the end, you see the tall grown Atsushi, now a very handsome guy, finishing high school and starting his job... as well as Masayoshi with his hair finally blonde again and cut!! And they are finally in love after all the struggle they went through over the years... there's just no better reward! ... and there's plenty of sex too!

Atsushi and Masayoshi's growth as individual characters and as a couple - the problems with age gap, Masayoshi being straight but in the end of course giving in... it's a long road, but I'd recommend this wonderful manga to absolutely everyone who likes longer series.

If you look for quick smut or a lot of frequent sex scenes then this is not the right manga.
However if you love great characters, growth and a steady build up leading to a perfect ending, then give this a read! And don't be discouraged at the first few pages! It'll be worth your time to read on!

I like inagaki x arisawa but it didnt happen so... But Masayoshi is a good guy so I manage to like it.

I dont like Masami at all. He just have to add the "wo" to the "man". Ugh. His smiling face is either fake or creepy. Not just appearance-wise, he acts like more girly than a women, all that pouting, getting sick, and crying. And everyone likes him initially. I dont get it. Why am I reading a yaoi if its not about 2 guys?

Anyways, it sucks that my favorite character inagaki didnt end up with his love/obsession. Oh, how I hate love triangle.

The art change is inevitable since its done over a long period of time but I cant get over the personality change. I guess the mangaka tried to make a twist but it was awkward. Especially Masayoshi, it likes he got personality transplant and plastic surgery, I dont recognize him as a cool, badass, muscular, tall guy anymore. So weird.

I cant rate it since my paring didnt happen and I also know the seme/uke switching before reading manga.

I liked it, although there are some places where the translation is a bit incorrect so it may be a little confusing.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It's good overall, but what happened with Eiko and Tooru pissed me off -_- he's an idiot and she's a s*** what kind of woman gets in bed with a man that has a lover while she herself is about to get married, that part just really made me angry. And you never find out if they really slept together because she says one thing to herself and a different thing to others. And why does Masami have to apologize to Tooru when he's the one that was in bed with a woman? I think their relationship could have developed better without that event happening, it just left me with a bad taste -__-

Also I can understand that Masayoshi went trough some emotional changes but that doesn't mean he should phisically change too x_o I liked him the way he was at the beginning, he looked manly, at the end he looked more and more girly >.>

Most of the other posts imply the same thing. This is worth reading, and the ending is satisfying. It's one of the better yaoi manga that I have read.
Oh yeah, for those who don't know
uke is bottom
Seme is top

About half way through I wondered if I should continue reading and I was put off by some comments that talked off how some personalities changed too drastically, esp Masayoshi's. Well, I'm glad I kept on, because the last few chapters stayed true to the core personalities of all the characters, nor was the ending rushed. I really couldn't have asked for more.
The art I'm not a fan of, but the story makes it irrelevant after the first few chapters. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a story that takes its time!

It really is a great story worth reading it!!!

So... the positive: funny, cute, and lighthearted... the jokes were witty as well... Atsushi is too cute... but he really does grow up to be a hottie... I wish the mangaka could have shown Atsushi's transformation from cute, naive to mature more... just suddenly... out of nowhere... Atsushi became mature...

Inagaki was one horny, fun guy to read... He was a nice consistent character... Especially the art for him... didn't change/deviate to much from the that was good!

Masayoshi... sigh... he was so cool, and strong... and such a jerk... and then... by the end he became another flowery guy (like masami)... kinda weak... and like... man... he just transformed into a completely different person... it's his character change that frustrated me the most... I just couldn't find his transformation to be realistic at all.

Masami was too... girly for me.

Tooru... cute. Like that he comes across like a big bear... tehehehehe...

So yeah. My major disappointment in this series is Masayoshi's character... the drawings for him changed drastically... and it really caused a drastic change in character... and i just didn't see it coming... him becoming this weak guy who doesn't like being the uke... but cannot seem to firmly put his foot down and put Atsushi in his place... I just can't see the Masayoshi in volume 1 being like that... sigh... :'(

When I first started reading it I hated not only the artwork but also the story. But after a few month a friend of mine forced me to read the first volume and I loved it. The story is really good and you can see how the mangaka inproved with his drawings. I really is fun to read it.
