like really? they stopped here? it's like you'd go to the restaurant, they serve you a really good entree then they come to you and they "alright, that's all, you can go home". If you want to read this really breathless and entertaining manga, just be prepared to feel sad cause you want more. story wise, i really loved how it's a realistic manga. Decisions put lives a stake, and the commander, while following his orders has to balounce the amount of risk and efficiency. if you like 18th centuries armies, then this manga is for you

I expected it to be a heroic tale of a super duo(saber+), but it's not. While main hero is indeed blessed with "manga luck" certain elements of the story counterbalance that. The story keeps going, no matter the sacrifices, and you anxiously look forward to next chapters. Plus the art is good. It's a pity there are only 5 vols. This could've been very interesting even in a long run.
Not bad

It reminds me a lot of some Japanese war movies I've seen. It covers the harsh reality of life in war and serving in an army where men are just numbers and tools to be used for the benefit of ambitious, stupid, and/or cowardly officers. A poignant glimpse from a soldier's eye view. Its interesting and a worthwhile read while being a little too somber and serious right through the entire story (made it slightly bland). I took of two points because it lacks the political intrigue, is not entirely original in its plot, and doesn't make use of the saber-tooth tigers as well as it could. I think my view is harsher because I've read Harry Turtledove's alternate-fantasy version of World War 2, the Into the Darkness series. It was done so well, I have high expectations of alternate-fantasy history stories now.
