"While it is a good read, most of the martial arts and fight info is incorrect". I disagree.I have been in dozens of street fights, most of the stuff author talks about is common sense and it DOES work in a street fight. This manga is not a street fight manual, the information is annoying, but the manga is still a great read. I am looking forward to more chapters.
I was amazed at the fact that some ppl in the comments are complaining about the art in this manga, which is simply awesome.
And for the people saying that the fight info sucks, I'd say that you are the one that sucks and need to practice more, because I find that info usually accurate, I may not have a huge street fighting experience, but I know my way around boxing.
I believe that the people that said that the fight info is wrong and etc are the ones that tried and failed, but they most probably didn't take one fact in consideration, that no matter how strong your theory is you have to practice until you can't move your limbs, otherwise you won't improve, there's no magic trick to get better, simply lot's and lot's of practice.
Seriously, can someone point me to the wrong info in the manga?
as far as I know and tried, grabbing someone's wrist from the outside is one of the most effective things there is. and hitting concrete floor on your back hurts a friggin lot, and so on ô.o
this manga was not and is not great. ok the fighting is good nut thats it. you have a guy who is weak a crybaby an loser. hes fighting for no reason just to have a place where their is noting but drugs an fighting waste of my time an waste of yours just watch the fighting scenes their good
It takes me back when I try to teach newbies some basic principle in some martial arts, I talked a lot, and that makes my junior didn't progress. This manga is just like that. It talked a lot and the progress is soooo slow that makes even me bored.
At the back of Japanese society lurks several monsters. Especially at the time this was written, during the midst of economic collapse following the bubble break, but even today the youth of Japan remains largely in a state of lost continuance. There really isn't a sense of unity or direction present in the country, and despite Koizumi's highly successful reign Japan doesn't have a leader to guide it. As a result, characters like those in Holyland are born.
Holyland is an impressive story more because of its societal relevance than anything else. Sure, it's a coming-of-age story filled with the glorification of violence, but at the same time it's also a rather successful character study. I encourage those with an interest in social issues to take a peek at it- it may not be all that great in terms of art or storytelling, but the premise is spot-on.
so far this manga is amazing...i want to rate it now but i never rate a manga until i've actually completed it. if you are looking a for good action or martial arts manga, or just a good seinen you have found it.
While it is a good read, most of the martial arts and fight info is incorrect. Anyone with even basic fighting experience would know this and can easily shoot down most of the points the author tries to make about fighting. While the narrative makes the fights and explanations sound very realistic. they are not and really shouldn't be followed or taken to heart. Take my word for it, I've been doing marital arts for over 15 years and have been forced into street fights before.
This comic is awesome! I like the main charachter Yuu alot. I really like the art in this comic. Kouji Mori has really cool style of drawing. I really like the narration too. I've been taught most of the tricks i know about fighting from this comic. I hope this gets put out in book form in english soon. I'm going to try writing to comic companies to try and convince them to print it. This is an awesome comic
One of my favorites! At first you're not really convinced about the manga but as you read you become more and more addicted until you become a big fan! There's no many art martial mangas that has characters development as deep as this one plus you see there was a huge research work all that is related to martial arts are true not the usual shit tht you find!
