Better than you’d expect

This manga is a compilation of short stories and, at the beginning of each, I really wanted to dislike them all because not even one of them starts out with anything different than a cliché. However, each and every story in the volume has something unique about them. Maybe it's the bitter sweetness, maybe the development...they are good and solid.

The first couple and story is my favorite. It really moved me, to the point I'll probably remember this manga and reread it in the future - at least this story. I read the reviews and someone stated that the reason Kabu won't accept Nirasawa right away is because he is a homophobe. I completely disagree, I think it has nothing to do with that. Kabu is your typical mafia boss (or son of the boss, as it is): sadistic, mean, angry, hot-tempered and - surprise! - bossy. However, something about him is genuinely beautiful and gentle. Nirasawa doesn't have a very strong personality, as he is the quiet type that falls in love long before the beginning of the story, but stays put. However, his love for Kabu is really strong, to the point it speaks for itself.
The pace is fast, but not in a bad way, because it’s a short story. I have to say it IS a little bit difficult to understand everything that’s happening at first, so I had to go back and read some scenes again a couple of times, but I don’t really mind it. Furthermore, what I really like about it is that, while it starts with the yaoi tropy of mafia torture and an uke that doesn't break, the climax is really unpredictable. And that is what makes Kabu's reaction priceless, and makes this manga so moving. I also thought that was going to be the end of it. However, it only deepens. Even though it is the perfect quick pace, you can clearly see Kabu struggling with his feelings, which is something else I think a lot of people don’t understand. The reason Kabu tortures Nirasawa in the first chapter is exactly because of his feelings slowly flourishing. He punished Nirasawa for something he didn't do and the moment he realizes why Nirasawa didn't say anything is the moment he falls in love. But it's not that easy for him to accept, because he is too distrusting, too afraid...and then he starts shielding Nirasawa from the world, being scared of losing him...until he can no longer deny his feelings. Everything is done beautifully, to the way he realizes he is in love and confesses to the extra after that.

The second and third story have a similar characteristic: while they start off normal and don't really elevate our expectations, I found myself crying in both of them and wishing for the characters' happiness. While the characters' personalities aren't that developed, which is to be expected from one-shots, the results of the pace, development and relationship is something really enjoyable.

The art on all stories is pretty and, as expected from Ike Reibun, the sex is really hot, with actual interactions from both parties.

Like everyone else here already said, the main story (ch.1-3) is just so SMEXY. The art is GORGEOUS (I don't usually like the Yakuza with goatee & tattoos type, but hot damn did Kabu-san melt me into a puddle). Not to mention the smut scenes are just completely drool-worthy. In other words, sexy Yakuza + BDSM + angst + smut = PERFECT.

The other stories (ch.4+5) were forgettable; how I wished the main story was extended into a whole volume!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
So far out of all Ike Reibun's works the first two stories dealing with Kabu and Nirasawa are probably the first time she tried something outside her borderline plot-less romantic stories and with some success. The characters in "Bi no Isu" and "Anya no Tsubute" feel more fleshed out than the characters in her other stories. Kabu is a homophobe and a sadist who can't admit that he loves Nirasawa, Nirasawa loves Kabu to the point where his own self-preservation is meaningless to him as long as he can be of any use to Kabu and that's something Kabu has trouble to understand. Nirasawa doesn't whine and accepts everything Kabu dishes out, Kabu stays in character till the very end. The last part of "Anya no Tsubute" seems to be conclusive, so I'm not sure there will be more stories about them, although I surely wouldn't mind if there were more.

OH GAWD. This is HARSH. I LOVE IT!!

The SEX. The SEX. My GOD, I've never seen such wet, dripping, pounding sex before! (Yes I have, just not usually). So much detail went into the rape...it's...almost kind of disturbing to be honest. But, this's a harsh manga, so it fits perfectly. Deal with it. The art is made to intimidate you. And it pulls that off pretty well. Fuck, even their DILDOS look intimidating! HA!

I liked all the harshness. Most Yaoi mangas are so sappy and so pitifully stupid. I'm a sick, twisted person, I want gore! I don't approve of rape, but in this case, it was needed.

The first story was pretty good. Most Yaois can't do a good mafia, but my GOD, this manga does. About FUCKING time! This has the harshest sex, everything here on out isn't as bad (in my opinion).

The only thing I have to complain is...I hated the uke in the 2nd story. He looks like he hasn't aged past FIVE (looks like a very tall five year old) and he always looks shocked, or sad. Annoying, I hate baby ukes. That's what that fucker is, a baby. I guess that explains his PITIFULLY small dick. Yeah, I went there. The seme? He's hot, I liked him.

The third story? Uhhhhhhh...I didn't really care about it. I fell asleep on it, so I'm the wrong person to ask...

If you can't stomach abuse, HARD SEX, and blood, I recommend looking up Yaoi about merman.
The adorableness will snap you back into reality right quick! biggrin

Amazing!

Ike Reibun is amazing- so versatile, with consistently awesome art. The characters are drawn so amazingly well. The emotions and the detail put into them is so apparent and amazing. Plus, the character designs really fit- you know when you read some manga with an older guy, and he looks like 16? Well, not so here- Kabu is rugged and masculine, and Nirasawa is pretty dang hot, too, haha. This is pretty hardcore and has a lot of heavy BDSM, smut, and darkness- so if that's not up your alley... read this anyway, haha, maybe it'll convert you. It's very intense, and the yakuza seem a lot more real than anything I've ever read. Of course, I don't actually know anything about yakuza, but this is closer than some, I bet.
The only regret or complaint I have about this manga is that it was definitely too short- I wanted more of the main story! Also, this isn't just smut- you actually really sympathize, and feel with the characters (Kabu and Nirasawa's relationship actually tugs at your heartstrings), and they're not simple; they're realistic in the aspect that you feel like they actually think, and feel. I totally recommend this! It's great- it's smexy, and angsty (although not irritatingly so, and it fits in really well with the whole vibe of the story), not to mention, the art is wonderful, and the story is addicting. It's also got some cute, funny light-hearted moments to break up the dark parts, which are well-placed and greatly appreciated. All in all... just read it!

Just finish reading this one!
I totally agree with videlmegami;
"Sadistic, masochistic and hardcore all mixed into one!"
I really like the first couple, Kabu-san and his will-do-anything-for-Kabu-san Nirasawa >____<.
Nirasawa is such a hot uke<3

Other stories aren't very impressive and I wish Sensei could cut them off and write about Kabu-Nirasawa more in a full volume.

Couples of people below me already said what I think
so, just remind you again that it contains BDSM, Smut, angst.
If you can accept such things, this manga is great for you! : ]

Tough reading, but rewarding romance

When troubled youth Nirasawa left home, he was taken under the wing of senior yakuza member Kabu. Years later, Kabu realises that Nirasawa is not only willing to die for him, but is also madly in love with him. Kabu rejects Nirasawa, and comes to regret his decision when he is obliged to torture his former protégé for valuable information. But no matter what’s done to him, Nirasawa refuses to break.

I imagine for a certain type of reader the warnings above would be an attractive proposition, but personally, they just squick me. That, and the fact that Ike Reibun’s art in this tankoubon is not just extremely graphic but is also realistic, made reading the first chapter of Bi no Isu difficult. Nonetheless, this is the first yakuza manga I’ve read in a long time where I actually believed the characters were yakuza.

The title story - great!

I don't usually like the sort of abuse featured in this manga but for this story it works. Maybe the redeeming factor was that the seme himself knew he was being a prick and couldn't understand why Nirasawa would love him. The lack of lovey-doveyness is also refreshing to me. It makes it somehow more realistic and fitting for the yakuza setting. And amazingly the story still manages to be sweet and touching. The whole story is amazing considering how short it is. Also I must say I was happy to notice that in the sex scene Kabu actually didn't have the usual stoic face of the average tough-guy seme. As for the second story, not really my thing... But this still gets a 10/10 from me.

Right there isn't much of this volume released yet, but it's definitely one of the better Yaoi manga out there. And it's quite simple why, unique short stories (or at least what has been released), a bit of a cute uke, some yakuza themes, a bit of sex and add in some sweet toys. The first story I predict isn't finished yet (otherwise the ending isn't very complete) but thats where the hardcore themes are but very very sexy yakuza bishes, The fourth and sixth chapter (both belong to the same story) are a more delicate and sweeter kind which has a hint of sex. The only thing missing is that if that is all there is for that story, then it just doesn't feel 'complete'. I hate that feeling, so until the whole volume is released and I can be proved wrong, I just don't feel the endings are adequate enough for me. But bloody hell, the art is gorgeous. Mangaka is very talented.

this is SO flipping hot, sexy, and steamy- I can practically feel the lust emitting from the pages. Although TBH I'm only talking about the first couple, Kabu and Nirasawa. The opening scene is a bit surprisingly, if you're not too keen on bondage, but we quickly learn that the captive and capture-er have some intense feelings for one another..heh heh. Okay seriously I don't know what else to say, but that i just love this couple. Love the yakuza setting (danger, passion, fear), love Nirasawa's loyalty, love Kabu's fear of his love toward Nirasawa, and the sex is SO.HOT. Oh, and the art is gorgeous. Make sure to read the sequel to this couple which is currently being scanned as well smile
