TW: animal death, animal abuse
TW detail (potential spoilers):
When FL was a child, her father hurt animals when she was young to try and get her to show her powers to him. The art style is not very detailed, but it did show the father with an animal he hurt. It did not show the abuse being enacted. The spirit animals made by the FL have to die for that to happen. The stories of their end of life is part of the main story and included over multiple chapters.
I read this because I love animals. There are a few animal characters, and instances of people being amazed at animals not acting "normal", but the main focus of the story by the end was all about the people (2 princes fighting over 1 princess, without Spin Doctors), with the animal characters being convenient tools for plot advancement or comic relief. The animal characters didn't really exist in the story outside of when they were used as tools, which was disappointing. Frankly, the story could have happened without them existing at all. Just replace their utility with something else. Once their origin story completed, they got very little screen time.
The evil prince wasn't particularly smart and was yandere in an annoying not sexy way.
The good prince was nice, but kind of bland.
The FL is strong, kind, and wise. She's really calm and mature, and one of the most admirable FLs I've encountered.
The logic behind solving the mystery of the magic tree was a little confusing to me. I don't really understand why there was a certain cause and effect with the FL's actions.
The art is unremarkable. Not very detailed, but body proportions and character designs were consistent.
I feel like this could have been so much better with a different style of story telling. I think it was written for young children, but considering the content, it would have been better as a story for ages 12+. Although no matter what age you are, the resolution to the issue around her magic is confusing.
Overall, it's "meh" and forgettable, but I didn't hate reading it.
