Description

Sakura-Gari is a Taishou-era romance story, ten years in the making. It centers on 16-year-old Tagami Masataka as he is aiming to find his place in life. While attempting to start prep school as a rounin, he encounters Saiki Souma, the son of a distinguished noble of the Saiki Koushyaku family, and becomes part of the Saiki household.

It seems as though this will be the story of Tagami's life, taking us through both him growing up physically and emotionally.

I finished it in one night and i don't was it worth it or not because i cried several times because of this masterpiece

It full of twists and i think there is a really big message that watase want to tell. I even not bother with the sex scene because i was so focus with the story (usually i read this kind of comic just for the sex scene hehe)

Will i read it again? I want to, but i'm not ready to be tortured by the story again

Update: i reread it again, and still beautiful

This is definitely a tragedy, every character seems to have some kind of problem.
Maybe I need to reread this because I couldn't really understand how the uke chose to be with the seme instead of leaving him. Usually people hate the- "Uke falls in love with his rapist" type story, but this one...
Anyways, very unique plot, gorgeous art, and that ending <-- not expected

I Actually loved this one, i wish all yaoi were like this, it was so romantic, so deep, and unlike many other yaoi where the sex scenes don't make sense at all, this one actually left an impact on me.

like blueseeker, i only wanted to try this one out and i just read the whole thing in one seating and that rarely happens nowadays and its yaoi! omigosh! but i certainly dont regret reading this.. there was so much emotion and darkness and its not just.. "hey i put in drama there! now cry" kind of thing , its like the reader becomes involved in the story and you really sympathize with the characters actually i was really drawn to them that it didnt made sense to me that

Souma has to be stabbed pages from the end . it actually made sense that their story ends in the two of them being not together and i also want it that way it is more realistic, i think.. i just like to think that he didnt actually die well.. i just love this. i just hope that when i wrap my mind around this tomorrow it wouldnt look like its insanely stupid like how i managed to wrap my mind about Fushigi Yuugi after 8 long years of being a fan and using it as a reference and guideline for love. i also love it that Masataka is straight and he reacted like a normal boy unlike other ukes, that are way too easy.. so its still realistic! gawd.. this manga really is a masterpiece. YUU WATASE, really, take it from an ex fan who just became a fan once again, you have gained my respect once again 🙂

I usually detest stories that end up differently from what I expect, but it was a great experience. Very meaningful. Just stays with you till the very end.

I don't know what you expect. of a story that involves a dark family full of secrets and Mistery, surrounded by abuse and crime....If you don't like this kind of plot go watch Heidi ....Nobody says that they aprobe what happened to Masataka, like we don't aprobe of what happened in the film "Sleepers" but it doesn't mean we couldn't like the story. Like a fan of dramatic and tragic stories I'm a bit tired of people complaining all the time about crude scenes....It's like the manga "Rainbow" a lot of things happen to the protagonist but in the end they had lived a happy life with lovely families whay would be the point in reading the story. I'd like to know what you expected of a yaoi tragedy.

I don't know why Yuu Watase doesn't write more yaoi but she should. Out of her cliche shojos, this manga truly captured the character's development well. It's a complex story full of betrayal and family secrets which linger back like ghosts of the past. I loved this manga and enjoyed reading it. Hopefully Watase decides to write another yaoi soon~

I finished reading this yesterday but I was so sad over it that I am anot able to post this until now.

Oh my gosh this has got to be the most excellent manga ever. Not just one of the best yaoi mangas but one of THE BEST MANGAS ever, genre notwithstanding.

The story is really great that I don't even mind if there's no sex scenes at all. The sex scenes is actually just icing on top for me. Even without it, I would so definitely eat the cake!!!

I am not really a fan of Yuu Watase. I don't really like her heroines. I really adored Fushigi Yuugi before but I eventually got tired of the story. Her other works like Ayashi no Ceres are just OK but just the same, I don't like those kinds of heroines (whiny, weak etc.). But this one, oh my gosh, Masataka is different. He's strong, but still very human.

I really like Watase-sensei's portrayal of all the characters. THey're 3-dimensional.

ALl in all, I super, duper, mega, highly recommend this to any manga fan. Even if you don't like yaoi, I believe that the story would see you through. Ah, before I forget, the whole series is very cinematic. Excellent plot, excellent characters.

I really hope and pray that sensei woul eventually continue this series. I would love to see more of Souma and Masataka.

I love Sakura Gari. I give this a rating of 1 million/10.

My reaction's pretty much the same with the general anti-Yuu Watase shoujo heroine movement: WTF?!

It's dark and psychological. Non-consensual sex abounds. There is plot, but it's formulaic (aka cliche; aka predictable). But the journey to how their relationship is evolving is what makes this story spectacular.

I'm kind of saddened by the fact that she needed a yaoi title to get a really, really good story out of herself. Kind of.

Oh and the sister--much love.

This is the first of Watase sensei's works that I've read, and I must admit I was sceptical about a shoujo mangaka crossing over to yaoi. Actually, I started reading Sakura Gari by accident because I mixed her name up with Higuri Yuu while searching for more stories like Cantarella/Ludwig II, but Sakura Gari is so compelling, it sucked me in right from the first 5 pages of chapter 1! And oh so dark. Who would have thought a shoujo specialist could create manga like this? All of sensei's limiters have definitely come off for this series.
