Description

From Seven Seas:
On the day that Naho begins 11th grade, she receives a letter from herself ten years in the future. At first, she writes it off as a prank, but as the letter’s predictions come true one by one Naho realizes that the letter might be the real deal. Her future self tells Naho that a new transfer student, a boy named Kakeru, will soon join her class. The letter begs Naho to watch over him, saying that only Naho can save Kakeru from a terrible future. Who is this mystery boy, and can Naho save him from his destiny?

At first drawn by its beautiful drawings, I was immediately planning on reading this manga before its first release and have waited over a year and only 9 chapters out, which is pretty disappointing. This manga is a work of art and it is almost like a cross between two other very good series (which I highly recommend if you enjoy this manga in the case of the mood and the drawings/characters) Bokura ga Ita and Bokura wa Itsumo.

The story line is amazingly clever and fresh and new. I love Naho's character as she is very strong; she takes control of her situation and she is responsible, unlike the protagonist in Bokura wa Itsumo, yet she is also so gentle. The best quality about her has to be her sympathy for others and I think that is very distinguishing and strong. This is the perfect quality for someone who is motivated to

protect her love and her future, which I think are genuine goals!

I also enjoy these mangas with a group being the center characters and this one does the job well. I seriously have cried in every chapter and it's unfathomable how amazing the art is. It inspires me as I read; I utterly love the art style. I also can't comprehend how sexy Kakeru is, and his personality is really awe-inspiring. It's truly depressing. There are all types of literary irony going on that I think the author uses cleverly and effectively and I enjoy this manga so much (as well as the length of the chapters, wow!) and cannot get bored of it. I'm actually keeping myself from reading anymore because I don't want to wait!

The mini-antagonist was also a pretty good one too.

And, like in Bokura ga Ita, there is a central theme in which is the center and basis for the (love) story, and, like in BGI, it is of a human flaw or human tendency and in this case it is the inclination towards regret, which I feel is very powerful and relatable. This manga is amazing and I can't praise it anymore; I actually really want to buy it, if only it was in English. I'm upset that Takano-sensei wants to retire but according to Baka-Updates she will be finishing the series so I really hope so, or else I will be utterly, utterly sad. However, I waited years for BGI, and this is a manga worth waiting for, so I guess I better get ready. In the meantime, I'll be checking out her other work because she is seriously amazing. I can't find a flaw at all.

From 2 chapters, I have yet to find a flaw in the story. The pacing is perfection, the characters are beautifully portrayed, and the plot is so gripping. It's emotional and bittersweet, it makes you smile but it can even make you shed a tear.

By far, the best I've read from this mangaka. I highly recommend it. 🙂

I was hesitant to read this because I knew it was probably going to make me sad. While it may seem fluffy it's definitely not.

I seriously cried. Maybe it's because I'm alot like both Naho and Kakeru, but I felt this pit of sadness in my stomach. I lost someone I loved deeply to death in the same way as the characters do. I have these deep regrets and often I wished that I could change the past.

This manga really gets it right. I promise if you read it you will cry.

Exceptionally good, does crippling depression like very few manga do

Extremely powerful tale about a boy and his suffering, from the point of view of his friends. Someone saying that said person doesn't act realistically probably(perhaps blissfully ignorantly) hasn't ever had or known someone who has crippling, chronic depression and tragedy-related trauma. Especially later on I can say with fair certainty that he acts very accurately. The author probably has some significant second, if not first-hand experience with the topic to write it so well. The shojo shenanigans are whatever, sure some of it's pretty corny, but the overarching storyline throughout the entire thing is incredibly strong that it ties it all together really well. A definite pro-read. Just maybe don't read it if you're already in a bad headspace.

Very good, but not flawless

My favorite part of this manga is the art, it is gorgeous. The story is certainly sad, though not in a hopeless way; you're always rooting for the protagonists and feel like they'll actually save Kakeru. It deals with some pretty serious themes of death, suicide, and hopelessness which really hit home for someone dealing with that kind of thing. The segments from the future reminded me a lot of the ones from Nana where the characters are looking back on their pasts but also moving on together
The main character Naho is likeable and cute but she is so incredibly dense-moreso than your average shoujo protagonist. Kakeru comes just short of telling her to her face that he likes her and she's like "Duuuuh I wonder who he's talking about?" There's really only focus on Naho, Kakeru and Suwa and while the other main characters don't feel out of place, it would have been nice to see more of them. They had unique and likeable personalities but a lot of the time it felt like they were being forced into scenes to be glorified background characters.
The story flows well and none of the chapters or scenes seem superfluous. And did I mention the art? Because it's amazing. I hope the author does more manga like this one rather than normal boring generic shoujo like they seem to have exclusively done in the past.

This manga has touched me immensely unlike the more typical shoujos out there. The art is golden and the storyline is touching. I can't wait to know what happens next! I love the characters, too! ^^

One of the most novel-like shoujo

Good stuff. Great art - shoujo style not not the typical really big eyes and mouth type that turns me off. The story is interesting and keeps you intrigued. The story opens itself up to so many time paradoxes but it's good to forget about that.

The story is well narrated and it's paced in a way that even the most mundane and minute details seem interesting in the way that the relationship with Kakeru develops. I have to say this is the most "graphic novel" type of shoujo manga I've read, and I mean that as a compliment.

It works well with the plot and it conveys emotions very effectively.

I love love looooove this manga...never in my life have I read something like this. High school/teen life manga usually revolve around school life/puppy love, jealousy, comedy, gender bender, harem and what not..but this is nice and mellow....and it's JUST the right type of melodrama..(unlike Sprout..oh dear that manga made my emotions and head feel like it was in a tornado/rollercoaster.. it was too dramatic :<)
at first, I wish Naho would be more brave and not second guess herself.. but slowly, she's changing 🙂
It makes me really sad during Chapter 5 where the professor talked about parallel universes and how even if you change the past, you can't change the future. You can only make the present better..
I teared up in almost every chapter.. I'm anticipating for future releases!

Only two chapters are out but i can tell that this is a series that I'll be following doggedly. Showing what happens in the past and the future is a technique that I feel works extremely well in romances.

It's hard to say much about it without spoiling the story :/

EDIT: mmk, 4 chapters in and this is still awesome. 😀
EDIT 2: Just wanted to emphasise the fact that this series is awesome. I don't rank many shoujo that highly, only perhaps 2 other long & still running series (Oresama Teacher and Reimei no Arcana) would be counted amongst my favourite manga ever. Hmm, getting side-tracked :/
It's fantastic.
EDIT 3: Up to 8 chapters now and the most recent twist has me so excited. \o/
I realise not many people would view one of the first comments for a series as it's ordered newest->oldest but...if you're reading this comment, go read Orange!!
EDIT 4: Just thought I'd add that the chapter where they discuss time-travel was kinda disappointing. It very much feels like it was shoved in there and hammered in.
Also, it's pretty hard to tell what Kakeru is actually thinking or feeling.

Its amazing. The first chapter was so good i fan-girled throughout it. Still i was reading one of the comments below and the person said they didn't want it to take the generic happy ending route, i wonder if it will. I'm a bit apprehensive about that now.

Its a great manga so far at one chapter give it a try!
