Best thing I've read in a while

I don't know why other people are complaining, the manga made perfect sense to me and I was able to follow along fine. The atmosphere felt bizarre and unhinged but that fed perfectly into the plot. When the twist dropped everything fell in place to me and i appreciated it a lot more. I loved the atmosphere and i appreciated the political themes and the storyline itself was interesting too. The ending was a real trip, although it felt a bit rushed.
Best thing I've read in a while, came here to see what other people thought and was surprised to see the generally negative reviews.

maybe I would have finished reading it if the plot wasn't messed up

Don't be deceived by "seinen" label here. Don't be deceived be the "realistic" artwork either.
Usually manga like this have an interesting storyline, the premises was good but they had done a really poor job at executing the scenario.
The conversation, and the way the storyline presented in here was really hard to understand , not because of "complex" plot, as it rather understandable , but rather how plot A goes to plot B and goes to plot C. It doesn't connected well together, you feel like reading from page 23 and suddenly goes to page 35 , and when you tried to get back to see the piece information that is supposed to be there ( page 24 until page 34) , you realized that it wasn't there to begin with.
The conversation between each character didn't seems to make sense either, I don't know whether there's something wrong with the translation or not. I feel like watching bootleg anime made in hongkong .
It is important to notice that there's a difference between purposely hiding something from the plot in early chapter in order to create a suspense/building up a mystery ,or just plain plot hole (literally) in your face just like what this manga did to me.

It's not HALF as bad as people say it is. Point is you need some knowledge of its world before you can have a coherent understanding of the plot.
Art is also not bad. Proportions and details are good. Men look realistic and some girls actually look pretty cute! (Werewolf girl FTW!) I understand why some people don't like it as it's more 80s and 90s style, not cute and slim like now.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
All the absurdities and the cases would make sense if you figure out that the world they live in is actually a temporary VR refuge for the dead.

Heinous, ghastly, abhorrent.
Bah. Granted, I'm not all done - just started with the eleventh volume, but I couldn't take it anymore. This is the most promising manga I've read that didn't actually have a single page worth reading.
Is it the author's fault? Or the artist's? Or maybe the team behind the Scanslation (I doubt this, however, as I've never had a problem with Omanga's quality)?
Whether it's the author's initial writing that's just bad, or the artist's adaptation into images, there's something extremely off about this.
It's incoherant to a riduculous degree, and I've yet to make any sense of the small arcs, or the characters and their allegiances.
If someone knows where I can find a small summary of each volume explaining what they're about, I'd appreciate it. I have, after all, wasted hours reading this crap, and I would like to get some reward.
(It got a rating of one solely for the fact that its potential is its only redeeming value, but the execution is abysmal.
Might be worth noting that I'm not usually a hater. I just feel I have a good reason this time.)
-edit-
I'm giving it a rating of 2+ instead, since the two last volumes were decent. I'm leaning towards that Omanga was the one to blame, but who knows, maybe Eiji/Yuu finally realized what they had been doing wrong.

Seriously. This one is like God and the Devil fight their final war (in Tokyo of all places) and Buddha/Shiva throws a monkey wrench into their plans. George Bush as God, Sadaam as one of the seven angels of the apocalypse, every end of the world scenario you can imagine----aliens, zombies, beastmen, Satanism. nuclear holocaust---but in the end compassion saves the day and the truly divine accepts everything.
Like the art, too, a combination of Crumb and Durer. And the stories remind me of William Burroughs.
Excellent read. Glad they finally finished scanlating it.

While it has the seeds of greatness Leviathan too often comes across as a poorly plotted mess. Each story too episodic and disconnected from the rest to fit comfortably into a cohesive narrative. Perhaps its the work of poor translation, but I doubt it. The entire frame of both the narrative and the fictional world are too loose to really make the series enjoyable. If the first chapter or two had even a rough world introduction it would have been much better. The reader is forced to spend too much time frustratingly trying to figure out what the basic paradigm is.

I think the story line of this manga is great although the art isnt as great. But it's very special somehow. The story is dark, strange and very interesting. I would buy the whole series but this manga wont be released in my place so i hope it'll be scanlated.

I cannot help thinking about Black Jack (one of the master piece of Osamu Tezuka sensei) reading this manga. This is definitely one of the manga made on a grand scale with deep philosophy behind.
