Description

Gajang Noh is a strong, dedicated, and humble man, with much respect for the martial arts. After the death of his lovely wife, this muscle-for-hire just wants an easy job that allows him to be a good father to his three little babies. An Ever-Present Slope of Downward Quality

Great intro, hook, and initial arc. Unfortunately, this is the best part of the story, and it never improves. It ultimately settles into a generic Wuxia narrative. The unnecessary side stories weren’t captivating enough to justify their inclusion, and the plugins/cameos from the author’s other works felt like mandatory reading. Many of the later time jumps felt disjointed, and the pacing worsened progressively.

The story starts simple with the MC caring for his family, but it gets more complicated later as the scope of the story gets bigger. This is intentional since the whole arc of the story.

The MC starts as a loving father, he really loves and cherishes his children. This is the start point and so you cheer for him immediately. But as time passes and he helps more and more people ,since he can and it is the right thing to do, the MC starts understanding that being a good father isn't only spending time with your children, but also being a person they can be proud of. Since he is powerful, he has responsibility to do right.

This story is also part of a world composed of multiple works so sometimes things are setups for things in other stories, which is nice, we are likely to get to see Noh and his children in other works.

For the first 100 or so chapters, this is amazing! It was easily up there with my favourites... but then MC went off on "side quests" which bored me to tears, the story lost all momentum, then it tried to get all Game of Thronesy, there was a war - which wasn't as bad as everyone made out - but it did take a lot away from what this comic was about: a martial artist who believes he's weak and just wants to raise his children in peace, slowly discovering the he, and they, are actually all very, very strong.

The final arc was also kind of crap (I won't ruin it), and the whole thing really should've ended already, so I'm hoping it soon gets wrapped up and doesn't drag out much longer, taking its rating down even more with it.

(EDIT: now see thet this is complete at 296 chapters, so my rating is unlikely to change)

I've read 291 chapters, for those curious.

If you do decide to read this, you may want to drop it after the fight with the metal demon god (see: bad-arwe homicidal maniac), so thet it'll stay forever grand in your memories.

A disappointment.

I used to enjoy this series for the first maybe 100-ish chapters, but eventually the story deteriorated in all aspects. What used to be a personal and thus interesting story about a father making a place in the world for himself and his family, becomes a convoluted and boring mess of inter-clan politics.

The roster of characters eventually expands way beyond what the author and artist can support, so the treatment for each individual character becomes increasingly shallow.

An increasing amount of screentime is devoted to tedious dialogues whose only purpose is empty foreshadowing à la "Everything is going according to his plan", where the text never explains who "he" is or what this "plan" is supposed to be about. Rinse and repeat for dozens of chapters.

The POV constantly switches between scenes you don't care about, because they're at most barely related to the protagonist or his children; instead we see endless empty discussions between random unimportant faction leaders.

Ultimately, the author tried to write a grand political narrative, and was unfortunately just not skilled enough to do so.

It has good art, excellent fight scenes and a good heartwarming story set in the murim about a murim warrior raising his children, it's great so just do yourself a favor and read it.

But randomly at some point the MC creates his own political faction of idiots and almost forgets about his kids. What really puts me off is how they try to make some stuff criptical/mystical or whatever when explaining certain stuff it totally unnecessary, I mean not knowing what every random person (but the POVs that are actually interesting) is doing, and then omiting many key points, would make it a bit more enjoyable.

I really liked the start.. but I see no progres and the kids are just a sorry excuse for a secondary plot.

Slow progress the story MC's step by step journey to the top. He's far from living up to the manhwa title and still in the middle of training just book mark this and come back in x+ years

It was good, then turn okay. I hate when the main character go wanderer around and kinda forget forget his family. His childrens still too young to he wanderer arond.

I'm a girl who doesn't have a father, and I don't think ill have kids either yet I love this. I don't love action so whenever I read these kinds of stories I need the story to be interesting and the main thing I love in this is MC dedication to his kids. He has a purpose outside of being the strongest or revenge like other stories do, he just wants to work hard so they have a good life.
It does get boring at times but for me but it's because I wanna focus more on the main characters than the antagonist so this definitely has its ups and downs for different people. I enjoy reading as the main characters kids grow up while others may enjoy the action more and the overarching story, there is something there even if it takes a while.
