This story was very frustrating to read. It was frustrating because I was invested in the two leading characters: Byoung-Ho and Hui-Young. Ji-Eun was almost like a third leading character with how closely she was involved in the situation between Byoung-Ho and Hui-Young. The ending was a gut-punch and left me really upset, but I can't say the story wasn't gripping. I've read other people's comments about this story and I hate how they try to sum it up as very surface-level phrases such as "that's life" or "hoes are for the streets." Neither even acknowledges what is happening in the story. I empathized with Byoung-Ho in particular and felt his frustration and anger. The possible relationship he could have had with Hui-Young was stolen from him by Hui-Young herself. She and Ji-Eun kept her problems a secret from Byoung-Ho for nearly 10 years and expected him to simply "move-on" or forget about her. All it resulted in was Byoung-Ho sleepwalking through life and going through the motions with his mind constantly stuck on Hui-Young due to their messy break-up (a result of her secrets she still kept) and her disappearance from his life until that chance encounter.
