Description

Feeling rebellious toward his overprotective mother, Soma Mitsuya, a first-year high school student, only cares about his violin and his hospitalized grandfather. Then one night, just as his grandfather's condition suddenly worsens, an earthquake hits, sending Mitsuya to 1921 in the Taisho era.

A beautiful and moving manga

I can't recommend this manga enough. It's a favorite of mine now, but my sister had to insist that I read it before I started it. It begins almost as a lighthearted slice-of-life story, but the character depth and relationships are so complex the ending ends up having to be sad. (I wouldn't really call it a tragedy, since it's just realistic. It not sad for the sake of being sad.)

Golden Days may be a shounen ai, but the love story isn't the main plot. Strictly speaking it's really more of an historical mystery. I like to view it as primarily a coming of age story. Mitsuya, who speaks without thinking and doesn't like being touched when the manga begins, has grown into a thoughtful and mature young man by the end of the manga. Despite what he's lost, he's a much stronger person.

This manga says a lot of about overcoming loss and death, loyalty and friendship, and a bit about love too. Even the minor characters are intriguing and have complex motivations (Yoshimitsu is one I still can't figure out.) It leaves many questions at the end that will have you thinking about this manga for a long time. I don't think I'll ever be able to forget it.

I've read this for a long, long time, but I never can shake it out of my heart. It's always one of my fav shounen-ai manga ever, regarding that I've read so many BL so far I've lost count.
I love the art, the theme, the author's way of storytelling...Maybe it's bias if I say that I love everything about this manga. Oh, I hate the ending though.
After a long time fighting finally this piece got licensed in my country, and I couldn't resist buying 2 sets of them - One to read, and one to cherish forever.

this was the first shounen-ai manga that i read, and it was a great one to start with. The plot is generic, but its nicely executed, all the characters are pretty believable (i like the protagonist too, he was realistic and not the typical hero). This is not a happy manga though, i felt really bad for all of the characters, and it was heart breaking when

Mitsuya realizes what going to happen in the future, with the great kanto earthquake and WWII about to hit japan. Overall, its a emotional, realistic (as much as it can be), and i recommend it.

Now that i've read more BL, i hope there will be more shounen-ai scenes as the romance progresses

I remember read this manga 3 years ago, in my dormitory room and my roommate got worries when i suddenly crying so hard. I hardly read all this series, i'm just read the final book and feel so sad. And then 3 years later, i mean today... my Golden Days series arrive, i bought it 3 days ago in internet. I read it... and crying again. I wonder why i'm not read all the book back then?

The most great story for shonen ai... the most beautiful relationship. The awesome plot story. And it make me enthusiasm to become a great mangaka. Someday. 🙂

Warm and gentle, funny and humorous

This is a gently mysterious manga with interesting characters being thrown into a back into the Taisho era. The main character Mitsuya from the future and Jin have a gentle love hate realtionship. Mitsuya wants to 'save Jin' as his grandfather Yoshimitsu wished on his deathbed. There are subtle shonen-ai aspects to this manga but even if this is not your thing still read it. The Taisho period background is brilliant and dynamic and its interesting to see Mitsuya reaction to to the total lack of basic amenities like computer games music and films. The art in this is simple but touching. The characters are likeable, warm, gentle and humorous and you are left wondering what will happen to them all and in your heart wishing them the best. Outside the main characters there is a rich array of supporting actors. This authors manages always to make a manga that touches your heart. Be warned however the opening chapters contain Mitsuya's mum who is fragile, very dramatic and a little psychotic. Don't let her put you off. Keep reading and you will find it worth every moment 🙂

It's finally fully scanlated. Thank heavens. It's been 10 years lol.

But that last volume really hits you in the feels. This whole manga felt like a chase, so I'm glad the last volume delivered. It was bittersweet, but I'm content at the way it ended. /super spoiler/ I thought it would end completely platonically but it didn't ayyyy.

Waw the art was so soft and ROMANTIC and make you feel yourself flowing in it...
As you can expected from Shigeru Takao.
I don't understand it the dialog was as it is, or translated-manga in my country a lil' false, but some parts were seen awkward... maybe it's just me that doesn't understand.
The story is nice, but still I love Dear Mine more.
The ending was nice too, a lil' sad, but i couldn't think of a better ending. At least, all problems solved and all the main character conditions and action was clear.

Althought I know the ending will be sad, very sad.. but I can't help myself reading and reading it until end...
This story, honestly, not to special so much, but don't know why it attract me from begining to the end
I love Jin and Matsuya, they love each other by tender, warming and softly love

If I know I have cry so much for ending, I will never read it. Now I regret that I read it, really regret. It leave me strong feeling, sad and tear can't stop from my eye
I cried, cried and cried so much after read final volume, I don't know how I can release this feeling from my chest, my heart and my mind....

If you are a person who hate sad ending, don't read it, or you will regret - like me

Anyway, this is a greatest manga I have read, the love of Jin and Matsuya, although apart in manga, but they will in my heart, from now and then, forever

i once thought it was plain, with a very boring start
and the fact i'm not really fond of shounen-ai so much, though i always try to find one after another, maybe to ensure me that this genre is also valuable one to read
but i continued on reading because i felt kinda run out of good shoujo mangas to read (and i already bought the first 2 volumes, it could be a waste if i didn't read it to the end)

and in the end
it's the only manga that could make cry
(if not one in a few, if i ever cried before it must had been a long time ago)

the story and characters are well-developed in the next volumes
i really respect the strong bond of friendship that grow between two main characters and somewhat unrequited love (from jin toward mitsu)
and i could feel a very beautiful world consist of beautiful-hearted people evolve around the main character

i don't know if i could ever read the last volume again, it's really touch my heart

Emotional, tragic, beautiful, hopeful. It is heartbreaking and bittersweet.
The depth in each character, the effort put into the plot...
The feels....It's 12:20 am, I have finished it at midnight. I am not over it, and my tears are still rolling.
