I'll never understand why people like this lol. The main boys suck, the dude forgave a guy who raped him like minutes after.. the rapist even gets a happily ever after like wtf

haruny's comment mentions everything worth mentioning. You don't get to see much of the main couple because it's just cliché drama after drama after drama. There are a lot of unhealthy relationships and the way problems are addressed is very rushed and unrealistic. Everything that happens makes it incredibly hard to build an attachment to the characters. Personally, I wasn't invested in any of the couples.

that was one hell of a ride

Ok, where do i even begin... i saw so many people giving high ratings and good reviews, so i thought might as well give it a try. BUT SRSLY there was just too much unnecessary drama. The first few chapters were good up until Yuri and Jaerim got together, but then things went downhill.
I am honestly not giving it a lower rating just because of Yuri and Jaerim tbh, because them as characters are pretty good (AND ALSO JOOHEE BECAUSE SHE IS AWESOME AND I LOVE HER). I was pretty satisfied with their relationship at the beginning, but then the author started throwing all sorts of dramas that was becoming way too annoying to me, and when it finally ended it left a sour taste in my mouth. I couldn't even enjoy them being together properly because i just kept thinking about all the crap they had to go through ugh.
Oh and the one thing that ANNOYED THE HECK OUT OF ME THE MOST: the secondary couples. WHAT THE HECK EVEN. I guess this author has a thing for Semes that maltreat the Ukes, but then just because they "had their reasons" the Uke should just accept them back and forgive them. Istg the other couples had such unhealthy relationships that i just wanted to throw myself out of the window.
In one of the secondary couples

the Seme maltreated and started assaulting the Uke (his childhood friend) just because he didn't want to be looked down upon by his other "friends" for also being an Otaku. But guess what? The Uke forgave him and they got together, as if the assault never happened, what the actual fuck??

Then, in another couple

the Seme was a total jerk to the Uke just because he was fat and it caused a severe mental trauma on him that he became depressive and lost weight, becoming skinny and "beautiful". Then, after a time skip, the Seme met the now skinny Uke and fell for him at first sight (yeah right). Their relationship basically only revolved around them liking each other's outer appearance and, although the Uke was feeling insecure about the Seme liking him for real or just liked his looks and if he would leave him if he became fat again, they never addressed the issue, ugh

And last, the 3rd couple

was between that fake-ass Ex-student council president that had an obsessive behaviour towards Yuri's childhood friend (also Joohee's brother), that he did all sorts of horrible things towards Yuri and Jaerim out of jealousy. He clearly liked Joohee's brother but then the author never adressed it (again) and he simply vanished and never appeared in the later chapters, like???

Tl;dr if you're looking for A WHOLE LOT of drama, bullying and psychological/mental issues then this one may be good for you. But if you're looking for a light-hearted and fluffy shounen-ai, this definitely ain't it.

I love manhwas where couples would change after they're in love <3 my next fave manhwa after If You Hate Me That Much <3
This is the type of manhwa that I couldn't really stand at first because of it's mediocrity. Seme hates uke. Uke also hate seme. Seme develops feelings. Uke returns feelings.. But when interesting issues started to arise like how they bullied glasses-kid and stuff. It got really interesting. I liked how the mangaka (or manhwaka? Idk lol) discussed the issues seriously, and not just fully focus on the romantic type of love. I also liked how friendship type of love was presented here. And when we get to the near end, we get to learn that all of them were involced with some kind of chain who gets to hurt each other. And if one breaks the chain, the chain would no longer exist. That is definitely one of the lessons I was reminded (not learned, because we get to learn all these things when we were kids lol) of lol. A little bit of push with the main story and it would already be considered as a psychological lol.

And I agree with someone's comment below about Aerak's story. I think that the cool kid needs to know that Aerak was the one he bullied in the past. The reaction/outcome would be obvious, of course, but it would make the cool kid think about Aerak seriously.

The main story was wonderful. I swear. I'm not the type of person to cry, but I think my right eye blurred when

it seemed like Jaerim, while crying (because Yuri turned his back when he saw him with gray-haired sunbae), was semi-raped by the hot gray haired kid, was also crying (because he knows how it feels to be abandoned/hurt by the one he loves). I swear it makes me wanna cry.

Aaaand I feel regretful to the gray-haired sunbae. Appearance-wise, he's more of my type lol. Idk about personalities bc each of them has this distinctive personality wherein one would be attracted to. I think that gray-haired kid deserves a better love story. And I'm sad that the author didn't include what happened after they (him and the bully) "broke up". Also, am I the only one who feels a liiitle bit of pity to the girl who bullied Jaerim and burned-kid? I mean, her intentions were good, even tho her actions were toxic. She deserves someone who would willingly accept her past and would inspire her to be better. Also, how about the former pres and Yuri's best friend? What happened to them 😕 I'm sooo unsatisfied with how things are lol.

The main story was a solid 10. I swear. But if u checked my rating...(thank u Aerak's arc) Still, this is definitely the type of manga that I'd like to read all the time, if it wasn't that long lol.

ALSO, I AM SOOOOO FRUSTRATED. I HAVE ENOUGH OF THIS TYPE OF WRITING A STORY!!!! SO LIKE, U GUYS NOTICED THE PART WHERE JAERIM WAS RAPED BY THE HOT DUDE, AND YURI SAW AND RAN AWAY. AND THE BURNED KID WAS THERE AND STOPPED YURI FROM RUNNING AWAY. HE WENT BACK, AND TOLD JAERIM THAT EVEN THO HE (JAERIM) NO LONGER LOVES HIM, HE WOULD STILL LOVE JAERIM. AND THAT'S THAT. THEY HUGGED. AND I AM SOOOO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE JAERIM NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO TELL YURI THAT THE HE WAS RAPED, AND NOT CONSENSUAL. THE ONE JAERIM LOVES IS YOUUUU, YURIII!!! Tho I was happy bc he realized it later on, when there were a lot of girls surrounding them with vid cams lol. My frustration lessens a bit lol

The artwork is so creative in this one. Especially the facial expressions and transitions. Its funny because the characters are drawn beautifully with detail one moment and in the next they'll look like an emoji. Really fun to scroll through.
The plot was decent, but it was a pretty typical shounen ai. I usually hate when every male in the story is gay, but in this webtoon, each of the characters had an interesting background/personality so it wasn't too much of an issue. A good variety of issues were covered between the characters like prejudice, bullying, weight issues, depression, etc.

Personal opinion on some of the characters:
I didn't really like the story about Aerak. He spent so much time feeling horrible, and working hard to lose weight after being called an animal by Hino. Then it turns out that he’s just as superficial as him. I didn't really see a point in including a story like that other than to show how superficial people can be in real life. It was just annoying to read..
On another note, I felt like Jaerim was written to be a little too useless. For a majority of the story he was indecisive and a coward. However, the dialogue towards the end when Jaerim and Yuri were in the river was so lovely that it kind of made up for all the frustration. He said something that anyone would want to hear from a loved one in times of distress and it really hit the heart.

Absolutly did not expect this to be so entertainining. Art style is aticpical but in this case it works well. However I have something to complaim about... side couples. Yes, they were also very nice but their stories not always got a proper conclusion, this is how I feel. For example, main couple (handsome x ugly) and side couple (childhood friends turned bully&bullied turned lovers) feels complete. On the other hand, there is "an evil couple" (two-faced guy and foxy liar) and that (playboy x former fat kid), they definitely need more chapters, sequel or something. Playboy doesn't even know that he is dating a person he insulted in the past. When it's okay and normal to not date people you are not attracted to (for example obese people), it's absolutely wrong to be rude and cruel towards them. So yes, I want confrontation about that, geez.

Why torment this pure cinnamon roll (=Yuri) so much?

I started reading this manhwa thinking it's going to be like Aitsou no Daihonmei. Unfortunately, this story is very deep and sad and I feel like the writer wanted to make the korean readers, who are way too conservative and hard-to-please by nature, to give this gay love a chance and let it happen at least under special circumstances. That's why while reading this story, the reader is first introduced to the main characters, then learn more about their tragic past, then see that every other person in the story is superficial and uber-selfish, to the point that they hurt the main characters when being nice to them conflicts with their personal gain. There are many instances in this manhwa in which the reader feels so much for the characters and invests so much in their story, that they'll lose it with all these unfair things being done to them. At least that's how I felt.

Just to give you an example, the seme of the main couple is an orphan and since he doesn't want to spend the money his parents left him, he lives a simple life and he works part-time to save these money until he goes to college (so that he won't have to worry about his tuition). His school doesn't allow part-time jobs but since everyone knows his background, they let him be. However, many students reported him everyday regardless, to put pressure to the school authorities to let them get part-time jobs as well. The school finally contacted him, asking him to stop working, so in ch 62, he gets drunk and opens up to his lover, saying that, unlike everyone else, when he faces hard times, he has nobody to comfort him when he's sad (because he's an orphan), As I read those lines, I was this
--> <-- close to lose my shit for real.

To sum up, the story is very engaging and makes a strong impression on the readers. It's bittersweet. If I had to spot a weak point, that would be the extensive use of sloppily-drawn chibis that appeared up until the first half of the series. Pus, I wanted to see more of the main couple and the side couples when everything was resolved and they started dating without any drama.

I love when love interests aren't always conventual. This series really struck a cord with me and it's very sincere. It doesn't feel exploitive of its male love interests. It doesn't present anyone as perfect.

Wow, in my opinion any manga or manhwa that makes you cry is amazing.

Also, i finally got my sister to read this after hounding her endlessly. Then a few days later i get a text: "Ma' gawd. this. Manga. Is. AMAZING! Great recommendation!"

This was so good. My flatmate had to drag me to bed to stop me from finishing this in one day.

Not only is the story engaging, with all the different arcs. But there is something that truly drags you into it and makes you feel like this is some sort of slice of life, although it's at many times over the top both with the humour as well as the angst. But apart from that, the pretty art and lovable characters (and amazingly drawn snogging...) I am so amazed at how this manwha handled the theme of bullying and psychology that ran through it from beginning to end.

No matter how silly it got at times, the subjects of bullying, mental problems and the cruelness of the world were taken seriously. How different characters reacted to different things was refreshing, but more than anything it's the hope of being able to overcome the hardships and bullying. How with the help of people around you anything is possible. That the system can be changed. That there is hope if you just never give up! And even if that may not always be realistic, it's the type of stories this world needs. The ones that brings hope.
