Things just keep getting hotter for Christie as she faces up against her first ever fan convention. She's got a boyfriend, but suddenly she's not sure if he's really the one for her, and the events of the con keep throwing her in Matt's path. Matt's somewhat of a mystery, too. He's always got those wacky sunglasses on, and he can't seem to decide if he wants to be nice to Christie or just be a sarcastic jerk. Throw in an encounter with Lida Zeff, manga-ka extraordinaire, and Christie's dealing with one surprise after another. Of course, convention weekends tend to end all too quickly, and what will happen when suddenly distance is added to all of the factors keeping Christie and Matt apart?

Dramacon tied with Fred Gallagher's Megatokyo for the Best Continuing OEL Manga. It was also nominated for a 2006 Harvey Award, and a 2007 Will Eisner Award, but did not win either.

Solid First Series

This story was nothing spectacular, but it was a humorous look at the trials and triumphs of con attendance, and it was a good start to the career of a good artist! I'm also happy to say that it's a complete story!

Great humor

Dramacon's a really solid piece. The humor is great; Svetlana has a great style for chibis. The dialogue's good as well. The art, while different from most manga, is solid too, and it gets progressively better with each volume. Svet also does a great job of addressing some contemporary issues such as art as a career and long distance relationships. The one off-putting thing about this manga is that some of the conflicts that arise (this is particularly true of the second volume) seem pretty trivial.
Overall, Dramacon's a great read, and I recommend it.

Russian manga

I was really surprised to see this thing there. Adorable characters, good art and amazing russian humor (you know, Swetlana isn't an american, she is russian). I totally recommend it. Give it a try and you won't regret.

This series actually kind of...impressed me. I was so happy to know that it was written by a non-Japanese artist (because most American and or English manga artists suck)...

I really liked it, but it needs to be rated for more mature audiences. 13+ wouldn't be able to handle this one. But overall, the art was okay, and the storyline was really good. Take it from someone who has been to plenty of anime conventions, I know how she feels!

This comic was actually a surprise for me. I didn't expect the story to have been quite so...good.
The characters were realistic, especially Beth (one of my favorites ^^), though at times drawn unnecessarily distorted (though this is what often separates a Japanese work and American work.)
The panelling was interesting to look at, but sometimes changed the moods so fast that it was almost hard to follow the flow. (though that may just be my extremely slow brain...)
Art was okay for the most part, large improvement by the end of the third volume. (or beginning of the second should i say)

the expressions and emotions of each character were conveyed clearly, but some events (for example, Matt's past) were not explained quite as clearly as it could have been.

I recomment this series to anyone who wants a good laugh with plently of "barbs and sarcasm."

good art and nice humour, overall a very pleasant and quick read.

my one gripe is the character development - for example, the (ex-)boyfriend character is incredibly one-dimensional, and I would really have preferred if the side-characters were more complex and layered to introduce more complexities in the story (for example if Derek had more than one facet, it would make the interactions between Matt and the main girl more complicated). in the mangaka's defense however, the series is only 3 volumes long, so he might have been pressed for time.

A turning point manga!

What I mean by "A turning point manga" is basically that this 'manga' was not created by a japanese or any other kind of asain person but a russian/canadian person! Which I feel is very big deal since most people refer to manga as only somthing made by the Japanses or some sort of asain. I feel this manga does not only gives you a nice glimps of something new and away from the whole idea manga is only Japanese but also a different 'real'. The fact that the whole structure sticks to the original 'manga' format makes it easy to understand and read but the concept, the story and character's personalaties make it something really different compared to what you would usually read in a 'manga'.
CHMAKOVA Svetlana has created a very funny, adorable,romantic, dramatic, relatable, and witty story that many people can really enjoy to read. I myself was quite surprised at how interesting and addictive the story was and how it played out so differently compared to other manga's I have read. The funny, and witty way each and every character interacts with one another and their situations really gives you a refreashing taste of another cultural veiw and feel, on how differently people portray people and society.
I'd seriously give this manga as many thumbs up I can get hold of but that might lead to an unwanted/illegal cough crime scene and get me in some trouble before I could actually get enough =P or i'll just leave you with this

I just adore this manga! It was so cute and funny! The story is interesting and addictive and the fact that it takes place in an anime convention makes it even better! This has to be the best American manga there is, don't miss it!

Witty dialogs at LAST!!

You cant deny one thing you miss out in a manga - not being written originally in English, we dont get the real American style comedy...this gives you all that! I could not stop laughing from the first volume!! I mean, if I like teen flicks, its coz I miss the witty sarcasm of it all...I wouldnt say its very eventful but humour is loads...worth checking out if you love to laugh..like I do!
