One of my favorite manga/anime. I read it like 10 times. I don't know what people mean by a dragging plot because it isn't at all! It is still extreamly interesting. I think it has the potential for a lot more chapters. I have read this manga at least 3 times and i still find it interesting. I'm dying for chapters to come out faster though. This is a must read!

Good story line but the development is slow. It's definitely one of the best shoujo manga out there but for fans who are impatient, especially with cliff hangers, should probably wait a couple of years for an arc to finish. I can think of a couple of arcs to skip over since Im more interested in the romance of it.

I bought this manga because I love it but I didn't think it would be this long! The room on my shelf is running out. lol.

I am giving it an 8 because of the first 130ish chapters of awesome it has given me to read, however, the Cain siblings sections is so vast and dry it's like crawling through a desert. I used to love Ren, but now I just want anyone else to win. ANYONE. Even if he goes back to what he was before, I cannot forgive him for the angst he has put the plot through. Kyoko is a good character, stubborn and persistent, but I wish she would form a REAL personality, something to make her more mature or give her more dimensions, she can only give a worried expression, be furious at Sho, or be dopey and naive. I'd like to see her develop anger at other characters, genuine love for someone, and maybe a ferocity for something than other her acting jobs.

The art at first annoyed me, but I found that it got better as it went along, but the head/body proportions will always be bad for the males.

This review sounds bad, but it isn't a bad manga, as most of it gave me genuine laughs and was entertaining. I suggest the anime too, as the voice actors are fabulous!

PS: After the Cain arc it picks up again...

IMHO skip beat is the best shoujo manga ever created. To those who wants to read this manga & having second thoughts because of some comments about the manga art style, dragging story or w/ the cliche summay. The manga is very far from being a cliche story. I suggest you read it first until chapter 20 and I'll bet you'll be addicted to the uniqueness of the story. The story is slow but you'll find it appropriate for character development as the story progresses. The manga doesn't focus on romance on the first few chapters, though you will see some development with the male characters feelings first.
The mangaka focuses more on the main point of the story which is how will the protagonist surpasses her childhood friend and how will she fulfill her dream to become a great actress. You will see how she re-invents herself & how she re-immerse herself on all of her roles. Back to the romance aspect of this manga, I can say that its at its peak right now compared to before the sexual tension is now very visible LOL, i dont want to spoil anything in case you start reading but the way things are going right now the situation is dangerously exciting. This manga is packed with humour,romance,fantasy,reality,drama, mystery & sometimes action ( *coughs ren/kyoko and the deva king sho LOL!) This manga is absolutely worth it!.

This is fun IF you don not read some chapters

First thing first: I doesn't quit reading, so i like this Manga ... in most of the chapters.

Negative things:

The Art: I can get along that the body proportions of ppl in the Manga are more ore less GROTESQUE. It is a style question. But what i dislike is that she (the Manga-ka) can not draw different faces (only very few different, like from a "How to draw a Manga" Book taken). I can sometimes only recognize characters by they hair style. It makes the reading somewhat bothersome.
Story: What i despise if an Author use "Deus ex Machina" in his work. Using only unrealistic coincidences as the only drive to push the story forward is lame but in comedy setting it's OK. But to forcefully bend something in the story wide behind unrealistic coincidences is only an outcry of the author: "Hey, i have no ideas how to make a good story. So i play God in my own story and change things till i have some setting which seams to be interesting and giving a shit on what i have told before that."
The Manga-ka used this in two "Story" arcs (till volume 25) to make a "complicated" situations, but in both is Kyoko absolutely weak and unable to help her self (in the crucial moments) and the burning hate towards Sho is almost lapsed (in the first Arc Kyoko even goes so far to encourage Sho to fight against some newcomer band without any reason, why should she forget her hate towards Sho and help him?). And the Valentine's Day Arc begins because of some lame mumbo-jambo mystical powers of one of the side characters, who use this suddenly revealed power to blackmail Kyoko. So a circle of stupid reactions and assumptions can take place, some of them without any backup in the character setup. This is lame, lame, lame.

Positive things:

Story: I love the 'Slice of Live' parts in the Manga and some comedy parts. The character development is also nice. Luckily this make the most of the Manga (i have only read till Volume 25). And IMHO it doesn't matter that it takes so many volumes to develop the characters in this Manga. I like it, because of that the side characters have also a chance to shine.

Conclusion: Skip chapter 80-99 & 138-148 whit this BS "Deux ex machina" plots, do not read them. It doesn't make anything worse fore the rest of the story (i have read till volume 25). You don't need these chapter (chapter 99 even through give a very,very short peek at Rens past (one picture), which in it self is meaningless). And you will have more fun whit this Manga. 🙂
But i bet the Manga-ka couldn't help her self and there is for sure a third BS story arc. sigh

A dragging plot

I love this manga and how it started but hate how slow it is. I assume that either the mangaka wants to make more money from this series or she runs out of ideas because there are so many unnecessary frames in each chapter. Also, I am getting bored of the love line between Ren and Kyouko. There are not many things happen between them, and if there is any, it has to be due to Sho's appearance. And that is the reason why I love Sho so much. I don't like his way of treating Kyouko in the beginning, and he was a jerk, but he is also one of the few characters who speak their mind in this manga. He actually does things rather than just thinks. He is immature, but he makes the manga funny and the romantic plot to MOVE. That is why I always look forward to his appearance rather than Kyouko and Ren's. I understand that readers also want to learn about Ren's past and Kyouko' acting, but personally, I think the triangle love story of Ren, Sho, and Kyouko is more exciting to read.

Now I know why this manga is still on TOP after 10 years. The story is very addicting, the main heroine is very strong, funny and very determine in reaching her dreams. She is not a cry baby who rely on someone else to help her on her struggles. She intelligently surpasses every challenges thrown at her. Overall the manga will make your heart beat because of the funny situatons, challenges, sweet encounters between kyoko and

kuon/ren.

The story itself is good, I have been reading this for years and I still like it.
But my only problem is how slow the story is, I mean it have been 10 year and there are 29 Volumes, yet very little have happened, sometimes I think at this rate will this ever end, I don't want to be 30 and still be reading this, but the truth is I have started reading when I was 15 and now 25!!!

If you are wondering whether or not to read this amazing series, do yourself a favor and read until chap 10, if you are not hocked by then, well, you are an exception. And if you ask me why, that's what I'll tell you:

 Well, I think the first thing that caught my attention was the art. It is very unusual, Nakamura-sensei has a very unique style, which she has been constantly developing. If you compare [Skip Beat](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=376) to [Tokyo Crazy Paradise](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=275), a previous work of hers, you will immediately understand what I'm talking about. If her necks were VERY strange at first, well, they got MUCH better. And even during [Tokyo Crazy Paradise](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=275) or even [Skip Beat](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=376), you can notice the differences, if you compare the earliest and latest chapters. Even to a noobie at art such as me, it is very pronounced.

 But even if you disconsider the art, which you might forget about, once you get really into it, the plot is what gives it all the praise. It is very far from being a typical shoujo by not focusing on the romance but rather on the own characters and their development as individuals. It starts out as a road to revenge but ends up being much more than that. Each character has its own story and development. Not only are they well explored (even if not everything has been revealed yet) but they are also growing as we read. Some might say that the romance is too slow and that the story strays too often from the main romance, yet I think that it is exactly this trait that makes the manga so good.

 Another aspect of the manga which surprised me greatly was the comedy. I hardly ever find anything which makes me laugh much, and whenever the comedy gets overboard I simply lose interest. Still Nakamura-sensei simply has the knack at making hilarious scenes.

I was really laughing my ass out when she chased the taxi in a bike XDDDD, or when she chanted for days until the whole family of the agent guy was in pure suffering, and I love the way she uses the grudges, it is plain hilarious

 I must say this is the fist series that ever got me to read chapters as they are released. Usually I'll just wait until there is a bunch of chapters and read it all at once. However, my lust for new chapters keeps me checking for updates regularly.

 In a word, read it.

The revenge part was a great beginning but the biggest selling point of this manga is how she gets over that. Complete with relapses. The plot mostly deals with the individual characters internal battles but keeps it from being too wordy with the characters expressive actions and fun attributes.
