I fell in love with this adorable story and characters. I recently found out that Kouji Miyata has passed away and was sad, but I feel like the best thing I could do to honor him is to share his amazing work.
This is a sweet romantic comedy about the life of a man and his alien wife; there is an adult content warning on the manga, but this is because all of the aliens wander nude and display a wide variety of breast shapes and sizes rather than anything more explicit. It's a particular domestic fantasy -- wife, kid, in-laws, sexy neighbors whose advances are always turned down, wacky hijinks, loving family life -- where the fact that the wife has star-filled eyes and innumerable prehensile tentacles in the place of hair is an almost incidental detail. (It's not even sexy tentacles; the husband is definitely more of an ass-man.) For all that it's not a very alien story, and is deeply invested in traditional gender roles for even the most alien of its characters, it's still a fun comedy about a happily married couple, and very enjoyable for just how much it loves how in love the central couple is.
Unfortunately, the mangaka, Miyata Kouji, passed away in 2015 at the age of 34. This is why people say that the ending feels rushed. He had two series being serialized when he fell ill, Why Not Be My Dog? and Oh, My Sweet Alien! He knew his diagnosis was terminal so he did wrap up both series on his terms before he passed away, with both series final tankobans being released about a month before he passed. So both series are complete, albeit somewhat shorter than he planned for them to be.
There are only two volumes so it isn't a long read. So please just take a little time out of your day and enjoy this sweet story.

But it just works so well. The originality and execution, art, storytelling is just a perfect storm of elements that make for a beautifully sweet, sci fi slice of life tale. Also an interesting allegory about cross cultural relationships, and the dynamics (albeit idealised) therein. Admittedly, some of the side characters could've been better executed (the Kinjou siblings) and the world at large could've done with more fleshing out. But for what it is, this manga really outkicks its coverage.
Such a tragedy that the mangaka passed away so young

Very unfortunate that the series ended prematurely because the author passed away.

Sorry, I'm an idiot, had to put 10 on this one. What a lovely story, I was sad it ended up short when it was quite good. This one has the feeling that it was axed but... not much we can do about that.

A cute slice of life comedy that is at its best in the beginning parts where it deals with conventional marriage problems (in-laws, housework, family, etc) along with the hidden alien issues which provide plots to resolve. The final chapter is in my opinion the weakest of the chapters since it has the least amount of comedy and feels very out of the ordinary compared with the down to earth problems that preceded it.
Loved it

I am usually cautious with ecchi mangas, but I didn't even notice that this was one until and I finished reading the manga and read one of the comments. I double checked the tags after that just to be sure. Like HanaTenshiHimeko said it's more like being naked was a norm in the alien culture.
The easy going attitude of the characters and the way the way they handled daily life situations were wonderfully portrayed. I especially loved the alien wife(I don't think her name is mentioned in the series). She's so cute and unassuming.
Oh, My Sweet Alien gets one point less than a perfect 10 because I would have liked to know more about the alien culture. for eg.
Its an interesting, short read and it would have been awesome if it had been longer.

When I first saw the summary, what came to mind was, "Oh, this is gonna be another ecchi housewife fanservice." While it might seem so, what surprised me was the magic seems to flow out as I was reading this. This series is tagged "ecchi," it doesn't feel like it. I felt I was learning about the alien culture; that being "naked" was part of the norm. It's very interesting that the author created a new world about this alien culture and their ways of doing things.
I grew very attached to the characters (alien for the most part) and it's interesting to see how they deal with the daily life. The art and story helped made a powerful impact. Like other people said, it's a real shame it's so short. I wished it could go for another 5 volumes or so.

damn this was a great story and i wish it lasted longer. Their romance was really nice and i really liked the art style and i wanted to see more Alien concepts. Also i find it interesting reading these "monster girl" stories since she would be classified as one; but not in a ecchi way, more of a "lets see how this will work even though its kinda weird "way. Cause i figure as long as something or some heroine looks cute they could make a romance out of it, any way great while it lasted

I hate slice of life, but I loved this
Sweet alien, is very nice laid back and while it is slice of life, more stuff happens than in other genres... I am thinking of reading more slice of life now!
