I couldn't help but to feel shocked when i realized this to be a true story. As if it wasn't horrifying enough...
With that in mind, and after reading the comments of the previous poster, i feel the need to speak up my mind. The previous poster thinks of humans as apex predators, vicious animals that stop at nothing until they are pleased with themselves, and that would be true if we lived in a sociopathic society. But i don't believe that all of us or even most of us for that matter are sociopaths. You say that people are abused everyday and kids are sold as sex slaves, and yes that is true, it is also true that children die of hunger everyday in Africa, some in even worse circumstances. And that is terrible to say the least. What matters after knowing this is how you choose to react to these events. Indifference? Never.
But you cannot deny empathy and compassion and the desire to help. If people feel for the story of Junko Furuta, and i'm included in that group, then you cannot mock those feelings. This story makes me sick and enrages me, but one must never forget that it is important to raise awareness and to try to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
44 days of torture are true and something that should not be forgotten.

DAY 44: January 4, 1989: The four boys beat her mutilated body with an iron barbell, using a loss at the game of Mah-jongg as a pretext. She is profusely bleeding from her mouth and nose. They put a candle’s flame to her face and eyes.

Then, lighter fluid was poured onto her legs, arms, face and stomach, and then lit on fire. This final torture lasted for a time of two hours.

Junko Furuta died later that day, in pain and alone. Nothing could compare 44 days of suffering she had to go through.

When her mother heard the news and details of what had happened to her daughter, she fainted. She had to undergo a psychiatric outpatient treatment . Imagine her endless pain.

Her killers are now free men. Justice was never served, not even after 20 years.
They deserve a punishment much greater than they had put upon Furuta, for putting an innocent girl through the most unbearable suffering.

This story from 1989 is true. Please spread her story around. Everyone should know about the existence of Junko Furuta’s unimaginable and incomprehensible suffering, and this is why this group has been made.

This manga is based on the true story of Junko Furuta. A young girl who was abducted by a group of boys and put through the 44 days of hell. She was tortured in most disgustingly cruel ways. The story didn't even receive a lot of attention in the media until almost 20 years later.

On to the story. This is definitely not for the faint of heart. Like the manga Shamo and the 2007 movie/novel The Girl Next Door. This manga uses a true story to highlight the dark side of human nature and society. Like the other two I enjoyed it. It's sad and shocking, but it's not often that stories like to deal with stuff like this. Not a big fan of the art, but it's adequate.

its unbelievable how some ppl can lose thier humanity and transform into ultimate cruelty and evil.. i mean these bunch of boys were not humen they were beasts and monsters. this manga is not just a manga it reflects wat really happens in real life around us and it resemble true cases of rape and kidnapping. iv read till chapter 15 and im really disturbed my spirit is down and my mood is not good at all and the whole time i was curesing those beasts. if u cant handle such issues then DONT read this manga .

Movies can show violence against a person, but there is always a restriction of what they can show. Books can tell of rape and torture, but can not force people to understand. A manga like this, however, can show everything, all the torments, pain, and cruelty, while still keeping the horror realistic enough to make people never forget these events. I agree with Wanderer11 that this needs a lot more awareness, especially in some more developed countries where life is good enough there that you can forget or not understands some of the horrors people can do to each other.

This manga is one definitely need to be read by general population. Horrible situations like this exists daily without many acknowledgement, thus people tends to ignore the injustices. The bystander effect is even worse, you can google it up. So people, please take a look at this manga to reinforce your own awareness of the crimes around you.
