9/10 mostly because it doesn’t have that many chapters yet for me to fairly give it a10.
I think I need to preface this by saying this is a yakuza manga. Previous commenters have commented how women are treated as delicate in this manga, but you gotta realize that that’s how it is in yakuza. As mentioned in the TLer’s notes, yakuza are built on the whole “chivalry” thing, though that word has a different meaning when it comes to yakuza. If you look up articles or documentaries about yakuza women, they don’t get involved in the shady businesses that the men deal with. They’re there for support, that’s it. The woman is only there to assist their man, or the family.
Though with that said, Yoshino at first was annoying, since she seemed so passive (which I wouldn’t be surprised cause as I mentioned, women aren’t really involved in the shady things yakuza men do), but underneath all of that, she’s feisty and doesn’t back down from Miyama scaring her. What’s also great is that, in yakuza, family is very important (your yakuza family that is). When she
defended Shouma from Miyama talking smack about him
I started liking her more. She sees through Miyama’s BS, is wary of him, and is straightforward, but still is sorta nice to him. It’s refreshing because Miyama’s her opposite. He’s shady af, you can’t get a read on him, and he pretends. It’s nice to see that she hasn’t fallen for him yet (I mean, can you blame her? He’s even more dangerous than most yakuza), and tells him how it really is.
As for Miyama, I feel as if he’s on the extreme end of being yandere (though he probably won’t kill Yoshino). Be warned though, this manga has a ton of violence, and although it doesn’t show any gore, it IS a yakuza manga. He’s also very creepy, but he never hurts Yoshino. Not yet that is.
The art needed some getting used to (It’s SORTA pretty, if you ignore all their thin waists, as well as some of the angles), but it’s really nice. I love how the mangaka draws their expressions, it’s really expressive. As for the pacing, I can’t say much for now since it’s only been 10 chapters, but so far so good.
The translator is doing an AMAZING job! The fact that they explain so many aspects of the yakuza world to us (like the three types of ways a member can leave the family) is so helpful, and they go above and beyond to do that. Also the fact that they gave Yoshino and most people from Osaka an accent, not a lot of translators do that.
I just wish there were more chapters out, but I’m pretty sure the mangaka is trying their best ^^
