Description

better than FY - Suzaku/Seiryuu but...

Yuu Watase's drawing has improved and changed tremendously, so are her story plots.
The story contains romantic/bitter sweet love, action and tragedy. Even FY had tragedy... Well, I find the Fushigi Yuugi's love plot very creepy. This story is just way better, the love story is not creepy and stupid. Yuu Watase's plot style also has changed tremendously (now compared to 1990's). But I still hate the fact that she makes so many of her characters die.

However, after FYGK hiatus, I must say that her drawing has again changed tremendously. I'd say that the guys are still handsome, but 'uglier' than before. Moreover, the inside manga columns fit "shounen" genre art, not shoujo. This is because she took way too long pause of "2 years" of hiatus for this story. I really wish her old art was back. This new art in late FYGK is very unpleasant to the eye. She should have put Arata or Sakura Gari on hiatus instead of FYGK.

I really think it's unfair for Takiko, while Miaka (stupid girl) gets all the happiness in the end.

My opinion (may contain spoilers):

Because FY was written before this story, a part of FY Genbu was also described in FY; because Takiko's father's diary was found. Basically, it has stated that FY Genbu would have a tragic ending. And I know Yuu Watase can't change that. All I have to do is accept this (future) tragic ending TT_TT (This is sad... FY Genbu is much more fun and romantic than FY)
In Fushigi Yuugi, it is said that the Genbu no Miko is devoured by the beast, but before she's devoured completely, the father kills her, then himself. Truth to tell, I would prefer Miaka to be devoured rather than Takiko. In FY, it's also stated that if the Miko's will is strong, she wouldn't be devoured. Takiko's will is so strong! How can she be devoured? I guess the Phoenix God was just being merciful toward Miaka, but the Turtle (Genbu) God wasn't as merciful.

OMG this is so much better than Fugi Yugi so much better well not that i'm older i guess i like more matured books idk hehe. Fugi Yugi was all about losing/keeping the priest (Miaka)'s virginity and sex while genbu is different, the story is not about having to keep the priest's virginity safe its about love and the world. Its kinda complicated if i have to explain the whole thing but I totally recommmend it.

I fell in love with the main female lead. She's not like any of Watase Yuu's other characters. She's way different. It's kinda sad because we sorta know what happens to her but we aren't 100% sure but i hope it isn't to tragic. i just know i will end up crying alot lol 😛

OMG! This is totally contrast to the FY! It's so great that i cannot stop reading it! I totally finished 9 volumes within a day, I love Takiko and Rimudo so much!!! They make such a lovely and tragedic couple, Welll thinking how good Takiko is compared to the BS idiot Miaka in FY but Takiko doesnt have luck cuz shes dead of tuberculosis or being killed by her father or being devoured by the Genbu in the end anyways, she and Rimudo never have the chance to be together.boohoo! I cry a lot thinking about tht, what a perfect girl she is!!
The plot is interesting and pretty fast compared to FY
This is a highly recommended manga

omg this has to be the best fantasy action series ever!! I think everything in the storyline is perfect! Wayyy better than it's sequel, in more ways than one. The art has really improved, character personalities are perfect, the protagonist can actually fight, it's more mature, and I love the story!! Can't say the same for Fushigi Yuugi #1 though. I mean, I love Tamahome, but Miaka and her quest sucks. I especially like how the theme of the Genbu ark is life and death. Suzaku's theme, love, was boring. Go Genbu! Booo Suzaku 😀

I absolutely loved this story.
Especially the main character, she was pretty and understanding (mature) (which was quite unlike the other female leads in Yuu Watase's books)
Scenery and story were created well (though most of it was like Fushigi Yuugi - it never gets old ^^)
Nicely drawn characters (as always)

I've always loved her unique panelling, somehow. It always fit the flow of the story and the personalities of the characters...ah...so hard to explain...?

She's developed on the character. They're so much more realistic than the original fushigi yugi characters. This may still be cliche but who am a kidding I'm of mushy stereotypical romance. Not only have the characters developed but also the plot. I am surprised to see that the nine volumes has kept me entertained. Its progressing. Cant wait for the next chapters to come out.

A DEFINITE MUST READ. 🙂

I'm a big Yuu Watase fan since Fushigi Yugi in the 90s... I love the romance of this Genbu Kaiden series--definitely more mature as everyone is saying. Unfortunately, I don't love the supporting characters as much. In the original Fushigi Yugi Hotohori, Nuriko, Tasuki, Chichiri.. they were all so loveable. But right now I don't really care if any of the Genbu Seishi are killed off :x Except for Uruki. There isn't as much humor as in the first Fushigi Yugi, too 🙁 And when there is humor.. it's the same kind of Tamahome/Miaka humor we've seen 10 years ago :x Shirtless, naked stuff.. In any case I'm still hoping for an anime 😀 It'd be so awesome to get Koyasu Takehito/Midorikawa Hikaru.. and some of the others back for this one! <3

Recently, I bought the first 2 volumes of this manga... and hey, its good! Its pretty funny and Takiko is pretty likable and I think she's the only priestess that can fend off herself which is way cool! I'm soo buying the 3rd volume...
