Interesting premise but poorly executed

A Genderless Crown Prince who can only be one gender depending on the member of the opposite sex that he/she has fallen in love with.

The art's an eye candy, it can potentially be a harem manga where the main lead has both male and female love interests. I had so many expectations from this.

But then, I shouldn't expected more from a shoujo oriented manga. It's swarming with lots of lots of cliches.

Cliche #1- The 'Forced Kiss'
Every bishies want to kiss him [The crown prince]. Apparently, his body gives out flower scents that attracted both sex. Especially the males.

Cliche #2 'It's fine if a Bishie sexually molest you.'
The main bishie never fails to do this everytime he makes an appearence.

Cliche #3- 'Everyone will fall in love with the main lead'
The only twist is that the main lead is a genderless Crown Prince who acts like a whiny girl. Well technically, the mangaka has decided that 'straight' bishies will swarm over him with kisses. And ofcourse, you wouldn't be surprised to see one of them attempt to touch his flat chest and his 'small' penis to check if he's really a female. LOL.

Cliche #4- 'Master Servant Relationship'

Cliche #5- 'Beauty Transformation'.
Spectacles work wonder in making people less attractive and barely recognizable!

Cliche #6- 'Meganneko Stalker'
And yes, she's actually beautiful without her spectacles

Cliche #7- 'Unwanted Harem'
Sure. But it's a male orientated harem. For all I know, this 'Genderless' crown prince should have been made as a 'Princess' from the start. It doesn't make a difference, no wonder his penis literally shrunk.

Cliche #7- 'Cheesy romantic one-liners'
..to the point of hillarity and occasional roll eye-ing from the readers.

Cliche #8- 'Romantic subplot'
You'd be pleasantly surprised to see the little cousin meets a hot long hair bishie who happened to be her newly transferred sensei? chuckles

Cliche #9- 'Incest subtext'?
Meh..Just my own impression. or is it intentional for the mangaka to do this?

Cliche #10- 'Fangirls'
You gotta have fangirls if it's a shoujo highschool with bishies in it.

I'm impressed how the mangaka has incorporated so many cliches into this manga. It's just like a typical harem ecchi manga with random pantyshots and different types of 'love interests' trying to get into the main lead's pants [not literally].ONLY that, Magnolia is a true epiphany of a reverse harem manga,but, with a twist.. he's a genderless crown prince..surrounded by sexually confused bishies! What more can a reader want?

The premise to this story is interesting but it lacks in every other way. I would've assumed that the main character was female if I wasn't constantly reminded that Ayato was genderless. Ayato has secured the role of a woman from the start. I've read up until the most recent chapter and the mangaka has yet to introduce possible female love interests. All of the love interests are males so Ayato will officially become female in the end. That brings me to my next point, why even have the genderless curse when really nothing interesting is being done with it? The story can be told without it. The whole thing seems like a cheap attempt at fanservice to be honest, but either way this manga is still a boring, cliche, harem manga. The only redeeming quality about this manga is that the art is exceptional, but that can only take you so far.

This is an amazing read, it encaptures the emotions of the characters amazingly and its not the average dramatic shoujo romance, it has a story behind it, making you want to read more, not making you wonder when you'll finish the page. The art isnt the best, but above average (the eyes could be worked on) but aside from that, its on the upper end.

Read at least the first two chapters before you judge it, because this is just a great manga to read ^_^! It'll have you craving for more though. No rating untill I've read more, but its probably on an 8.

The apart from Ayato being genderless, it is your cliche shojo series with the complete reverse Harem. A good, depthless, prosaic shoujo manga. I don't Hate Ayato. When I keep reminding myself that he is a prince, therefore a Noble, his spoiled behavior does not irritate me in the least since his lineage entitles him to that. The problem is that the story and characters are vacuous!! the manga had so much potential, but the mangaka just discarded all that potential to crowd please. There is no depth whatsoever, I cpretty much can guess what will happen through the end of the manga. Now although I've rambled on it's depthlessness and its dearth of originality, the art is exquisite. I am in Love with Sui, Ayato's little brother because so far, he is the only character that displays a modicum of uniqueness. Perhaps I just have a thing for closet sadists but he has caught my attention. I think at this point, the mangaka might as well make it a BL because that will at least give me some satisfaction. Nice passtime, not a manga that will keep me awake at night though.

I really like this! It has a great plot, and great art. However, I wish that they'd update the chapters quicker cause I really can't wait. From the comments I read people didn't seem to like it, but I really do. Can't wait to read more. However, I am pretty sure Ayato is going to be a girl because it does say shoujo, but I don't know. Anyways... LOVE THIS!

Shame....The premise was interesting enough, and the art is pretty. But it was all wasted with the questionable pacing, shallow character development and those last couple of chapters. I found myself getting confused at each page, wondering if I accidentally skipped over dozens of 'em. Nope, that's how it was paced apparently. Then, there's the infamous ending. Holy cow, what did I just read 😕 It felt like an entire farm of pox-infested swine was shoved down my throat.

I'm usually generous when it comes to manga ratings but WTF JUST HAPPENED. I thought this had an interesting premise at first but it just kept on getting worse and worse. I thought to myself "okay, this is only the beginning, it probably needs time to build up...." NO. NO CHARACTER GROWTH. SH*TTY ENDING. I thought by the middle of the chapter, Ayato would chose a gender but wth was up with the ambiguous ending?! Horrible horrible plot development -____-

For one, I have always been a fan of Naked Apes' works. I have read many of their works, including Switch, Dolls, and some doujin. I was very excited to read this story, and the art is as beautiful as always. Especially in this series where Ayato is surrounded by flowers. The series was interesting and the romance seem promising. As far as the plot goes, the characters plays a big part and they are pretty interesting. However, I feel like the story was cut short. well, it was cut very short. The ending was horrible. Now I heard the story will continue in the next series. If that is true, I might change my mind and go ahead to buy the manga from the bookstore.

Another gender bender gem

I highly recommend this manga. And I expect this one to get an anime soon ( hopefully, as it already got a drama cd with powerhouse voice actors ) . I as a gender bender fan have read a lot of this genre.. But this series is one of the unique gems; only a few cliche (which is unavoidable)... The art is breathtaking (job well done Naked Ape)... Both the Fluffy and Dark sides are handled well...I like the characters, though some cliches are unavoidable . Most of the char are very possessive (which is executed well) . In the story, my favorite part ( even if it's one of this genre's cliche) is the main character's shaky resolve : he identifies himself as male, and wants to be fully developed as one ,and feared/hated the thought to become a woman, yet her heart yearns for this certain man...... Oh well, I hope this gets longer, and more mangakas will make "GOOD" gender bender stories like magnolia coz I'm running out of good things to read 😛

ya'know i wouldn't usually read this type of manga at first i thought it was a BL(yaoi) manga there's nothing wrong with them but i just dont usually go for it, though its not a BL manga i love the fact that the main character gets the choice to be a boy or a girl when she/he gets to the right age.its like is she/he a girl or a boy i think thats what i love about this manga i like the story too 🙂
