Hime Kino's dream is to one day perform voice acting like her hero, Sakura Aoyama, from the Lovely Blazer anime. So getting accepted to the prestigious Hiragi Academy's voice actor department is the first step in the right direction! But on her first day of class she meets Sakura's grouchy son, Senri, who tells Hime that her voice is awful and Lovely Blazers is stupid. Hime will not let that stand unchallenged. She'll show everyone that she IS a voice-acting princess, whether they like it or not!!

This is an amazing manga. It's light and airy, and on the surface it looks like your typical shoujo, but just about every single character is distinct and likeable, and sometimes almost admirable. The author's narrations add hilarious and well-timed sarcasm ("Senri is... a tsundere."), and I really like the way it's turning out so far. It's quite like Skip Beat in the tone it takes with the acting industry. A great manga that I'm looking forward to seeing more of.

I'll make this clear right now. I absolutely HATED Special A. Why? Because the heroine pissed me off with her obsession to be number one over the male love interest. So, when Seiyuu Ka-! was first released, I clicked the title to check out the series info, as I am a seiyuu fanatic, so naturally, I was interested. However, once I saw who the author was, it killed my interest right there, cause like an idiot, I assumed that if I disliked one work by a mangaka, I would dislike the rest.

BOY WAS I WRONG.

I gave in after about 40 or so chapters were released due to the lack of good shoujo that was being put out these days, and told myself, "I don't have to continue reading if I don't like it."

And so, up to the latest chapter as of July 7, 2012, I do NOT regret it at ALL.

In my eyes, it has everything that a good shoujo needs. A likable and motivated heroine, an interesting male love interest, a good plot, and last but not least, a finely slow-paced, but moving ROMANCE.

Not once was I bored while reading this manga. It's funny, slightly romantic, and sad. But what really takes the cake is how touching it can be during or after the three descriptions listed above.

If you love shoujo, do yourself a favor and read this manga. You will not regret it. 😀

I picked up this manga for one simple reason - I am a seiyuu addict. So I thought it could be interesting reading about this kind of thing. At first, I wasn't completely satisfied, the series seemed..well...a little crude. But when Shiro appeared for the first time, I could feel the manga slowly changing along with her.
If there is something that I really love in manga, it's a good character development. And I feel I can say that Seiyuu Ka definitely has the development. The way the characters interact is very intriguing and I love most of the side characters as well. For a while I kept thinking I would appreciate if there was more from the school side, but as it is right now, I think I'm content.

Most of the characters are likeable and the ones that are not (...) are not bad just to be bad, but it's all in a way that makes up the story - it's an important part that shapes up the other characters.

The plot seems to be done well and there aren't any big plot holes included. I have a big hope for how will the series continue on.

The art is really adorable and I just melt to their smiles and can't help but cheer them on. Only thing that could make this series better would be dram- an anime adaptation! Since there are drama CDs out there already.

EDIT: Ended up lowering my rating a tiny bit, because the ending was all sorts of disappointing. All in all, I still enjoyed the time spent reading this series though.

AbBSOLUTELY UN-PREDICTABLE (seriously, xD after volume 2, I was like WHAT!??! SKDJFLSDJ OMG COOL)
And I still go like that, 😀 But in the best way ever<3 Most mangas I read, I can predict EVERYTHING. The only thing I could predict in this was that Hime doesn't seem like the type to give up. xD
And she doesn't! Unlike most mangas that are trying to "relate" to teens about being all depressed (i'm offended by those mangas >:l), in here, Hime is the most positive, up-beat, yet deep character I've ever read about. o_o. It's just awesome!

O-kay. I've wrote this much about nothing really, xD. I'm never good at these, and I usually just write how much I love the manga.

This is how all showbiz shoujo should be. Seriously, I can't seem to get into popular showbiz manga/manhwa, but I ate this one up.
The main cast is adorable and likable. Hime for me is love. She's cute, hardworking, and uses criticism to improve herself (unlike heroines who cry the moment they get criticized).
I really love how the shine in her eyes is shaped like stars when she's determined, it's cute xD.

This isn't really anything groundbreaking, but it's one of those manga that are fun to read and leave you dissapointed when there's no more.

Also, I was reluctant to read this at first because it was by the same author who did Special A, and I found that a waste of time, but don't skip out on this just because of that. I can assure you that this is loads better.

Edit: I should've waited until it was finished to write a review. The colorful cast of characters we're introduced to in the first ten chapters are completely ignored after thirty chapters. The mother/daughter relationship had so much potential but it was ruined. And I feel like the ending was nothing more than lazy writing. It's a shame 🙁

Like others, I initially didn't think much of this series at first. In fact, I discovered this a long time ago but never gave it a chance because It looked typical and stuffed with cliches. But I couldn't have been more wrong. There was no lame melodrama, unrealistic misunderstandings nor sappy romance (in fact the romance is super light). Everything was genuine, pure hearted and overall felt refreshingly energetic and hilarious. And the characters in this story, especially the main one, have quirky qualities and personalities that set them apart from being just your generic shoujo characters (and I don't mean generic as in they're usually all the same, but more so in their attitudes and tendencies). The main girl was incredibly strong willed and probably one of the most optimistic and forward characters I've ever seen. However, just that alone didn't mean it was entirely realistic all the time (because at times her mental strength almost seemed inhuman, or maybe I'm just too negative to understand her optimism) but it still sets her apart from the rest and that I deem as something worth appreciating. I admired her.

On top of that, the last couple volumes (as of now) went surprisingly in-depth with the male lead

well his past at least. It made me so sad ;_;

something I wasn't sure I would see with any of the characters at all (or at least to that extent). It completely wowed me. Not only did I not expect it, but I didn't think it would be so fitting and well thought out.

But long review short: The characters combined with the plot were simply unique. It was really enjoyable. And I can't help but want more (especially in terms of romance __)

to those who love special a series and to all manga lovers that want to discover a new and great manga! This newest manga by maki minami is for you..hehe c;
well i could say that seiyuu ka has surpassed s.a in terms of the story/plot..it has more weigth and direction,but still i love the s.a..
The art is superb..coz all the character are well drawn..the character's personalities were all lovable especially the male lead,kuduo senri{hehe a tsundere and has a fetish for cats},,but hime also has an admirable and very optimistic personality..she's very cute and adorable! The other characters are also lovable..my fave supporting char. will be shou{a guy who loses his temperatue when it comes to his friend..he really values friendships,,but he tends to be nervous in front of any girls except hime} ..hehe wel this manga just started,,for xure many exciting happenings and surprises awaits the readers..waah and not to mention in the end of the 2nd volume kino hime will start working as a male seiyuu..for those who read this comment and haven't check out the manga..plsss..do check it out..for sure you'll never be dissapointed.. :>

I'm surprised. No, really, I'm surprised by the ending of v2. I can assure you that it's something to look forward to (but mind the genres, would you), and to sum it up you can say it's a (very) cute, lovely shoujo manga without the shoujo heroine you want to kill everytime you see her, and with more possibilities in the whole plot. And humour. Don't forget those little bits of humour that are actually really funny~ So check it out, would you? I mean, you even made the effort to read this, checking the manga out now wouldn't hurt ^^ Please?

I'm really surprised that no one's commented yet. Anyway, this is definitely one of the more enjoyable shojo manga out there. The heroine is really cute and not-annoying, and has a really unique and unexpected talent. (Not to mention Senri is a tsundere, hurhur. <3) Anyway, it's really funny and light, and I do recommend it.

The main strengths of Seiyuu Ka! are its refreshing characterisation of the two main leads and the really nicely developed relationship interwoven with their own character development. What I really liked about the relationship was that it wasn't approached as a typical girl falling in love with a guy story (but neither does the guy fall in love first, really). They start out with their own ambitions, their own independence as characters. Much of the relationship being developed occurs when the main female lead is crossdressing as her alternate male "stage" sort of persona. This means that the main male lead actually gets to know her as a person first and foremost, not just as a potential love interest.

And the characterisation was wonderfully done as well. I loved how the main female lead wasn't overly girly, but I suppose that's to be expected since she does crossdress as a boy regularly throughout. The main male lead as well isn't the typical cool, uber talented male lead, but rather refreshing; he is also endearing, calm, a bit cute as well. When he finds out the main female lead crossdresses, no pointless drama/tension unfolds. He may hesitate and worry on the inside but thinks things over before acting and handles the situation calmly like a pro.

Oh, one last thing I feel worth mentioning. Some others have complained about the ending being too rushed; I disagree. Any more longer, it would have just been unnecessarily drawn out, nothing else really needed to be added, and I commend the author for knowing when to stop a good story. 🙂
