Something addictive.

Lately I've been in the mood for time/world travel themed mangas/anime. I prefer something with a female character who for one reason or another gets transported into the past or to a different world. I would like her to be in a station where she has to change (i.e Learn to fight, ride a horse, speak their language etc.), and leads the people through something. I would also like it to have romance, marriage and maybe even children (during or near the end). I don't mind a little bit of tragedy, just as long as it has a happy ending.
Some examples that I've read are:
Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori
Threads of Time
Kanata Kara
Thank you in advice.

I can only think of one manga (well technically Manhwa) that fits almost all of your requirements.
Crazy girl shin bia
It's got practically all that in it.
It drags on and can be annoying but overall it was a good story.

I second the motion for Twelve Kingdoms. It has some awesome character development and a unique story. It was originally a book that was made into an anime. It's well worth watching! Another anime I just thought about is Avatar: The Last Airbender It's fairly short but I really liked it a lot. And while no one travels 'back' in time, 'time' is a major factor. Oh, & the female protagonist is a nice strong character with good character development as the story progresses along with her on unique 'weapon' with which she helps in a war. That's all I'm gonna say about it. I can't say anything else as it'll just spoil it.
Personally, I like to watch the subbed versions more than the dubbed ones. I like learning the bits of Japanese you pick up as you hear the Japanese and read the subs. However, If you watch a subbed version of Twelve Kingdoms (like I did), have your hand poised above the pause button especially if you're not used to reading subs. It has some incredible dialogue you don't want to miss. After a few episodes, you'll get much faster at reading. It's the only one I've ever had trouble keeping up with reading. LOL

You should try InuYasha. Both the anime and manga are good.
