The only purpose for me in school is to hang out with my friends. Being in school for 8 hours a day is really not worth it.

I mean of I would not want to see myself if I had never gone to school, I mean without school I would not be at my current Intellectual level.
If you want to succeed
Then you don't need Good Luck
You need the ability to overcome Bad Luck
Happines and Light needs a source to exist
Hatred fuels itself and Darkness exist where there is no Light

huh, I am on drugs...
in resume, what I meant to say was.
Education begins at home, and no school can really replace that... so yeah, to me the first grades are useless, and most of the basic stuff should be taught by the parents
Sadly the situation hardly ever allows such a thing.

I don't know about university, since I only recently graduated from high school... waiting to see if I got approved at an uni xD... And in pedagogy actually...
So yes... I do plan to be a teacher... So for me it's kind of a stupid question...
I think school is important because we learn how to live with other people aside from our family and nighbors...
Also, we learn how to think... If we don't learn those "stupid" and "useless" things that we only learn at school, we won't be able to ratiocinate decently (Sorry... If no one got my point is because my english is lame or my comunicanting ability is... or both).
Anyway... I think school is really important =) No matter the grade.

Even if you think you're wasting time it isn't so any.way. You always gain smth.
I usually have to self-study. I move a lot, so sometimes I start school in the middle of the year. And the curriculum would be completely different, since I always move to another country. So, I have to learn all that was taught by myself, and I've been doing it for about 7 years now, and I usually am one of the best in the class. But, I'm only in high school right now, so I don't know about university.
I think it depends on the person - the usefulness of school.

School would be useful if students could relate to the material and take their education in charge. People enter uni and still don't know what they want to do, so of course education lags for lack of focus. Schools should instead take a subject -- any subject the kid likes -- and show how the student can learn this subject more effectively. It can be a game, it can be how to use simple things like chairs and tables in inventive ways, etc. We learn a lot, but we certainly do not learn to learn, so to speak.
The idea behind school is a good one, but I feel it is poorly implemented because children could learn at a much quicker pace. Cut elementary and high school times by half by compressing the material, and get children involved in real work by the age of 10, and now we're talking.
As it is, schools pander to the lowest common denominator -- the average student. No, this shouldn't be. Provide relevance to the material and accept nothing less than excellence, and you will regurgitate a smart generation of young adults.
