The only thing I didn´t like about America was the fact the peolple wasn´t pressing the government enough to force a change on the environment policy
Fortunately, this seems to be changing
Compared to OTHER countries environmental policies, America's environmental policies are quite good.
It´s just that we expect a lot from America, once it´s still the "ruler of the world". And if it shows the will to make a diference, many other countries will follow
Not that Brazil is showing ANY work at all (except for the ethanol research, that is more like economic interest than environmental)... We´re so fucking incopetent that we can´t even stop the forest burnings... Geez, we REALLY sucks... TT_TT

Wow, nice topic. Anyways, it's America all the way for me, and I love it! Wouldn't wanna live in any other place. Sure, there are bad times, but they're not so bad that I would wanna move out of the country.

In general, I would say I like it, but if I had the chance, I would´t mind moving to Japan for some years (maybe even for life)
Why does everyone say they want to move to Japan? ok anime and manga is made in Japan but that doesn't mean all people go around with blue hair and there's cat girls everywhere. Japan may look happy and a welcoming place to live in and visiting but living in Japan is whole other deal. When a gaijin decides to stay in Japan he/she will always be treated as an outsider, the schooling and work is also strict as hell. I'm not saying foreigners are being bullied or anything however you'll always be treated as a gaijin no matter how many years you stay in Japan and then in the end you'll realise just how lonely you are. 😐
prepare to become a robot like me (^-^) tachikoma
sigh One bad president in the last 20 years isn't too bad. Yeah, I don't care what ANYONE says about Bill Clinton, LOWEST UNEMPLOYED RATE EVER says enough on its own. Ironically, Bush has the highest rate of unemployed people on his hands, I believe.
Oh, and to people who agreed with Clinton's impeachment (Even though he was acquitted), let it go. The guy ran one of the superpowers, of course he had stress he needed to take, and, have you seen his wife lately? Not exactly the picture of hot. I don't blame him at all for what he did. As a man, I can attest that sometimes (ok, alot), we have urges, and sometimes (not as much, thank god) we act on those uges. Where guys, its what we do. It's in our DNA to want to reproduce, just like ever other male animal in the world.
I want Bill Clinton back as President, he replacement sucks donkey balls. >_>

In terms of complete disregard from cleanliness and pollution what Ares said is true, especially if you compare it to China and other developing nations. There is a culture of conservation in the United States that started with Teddy Roosevelt. Despite having the largest economy in the world, the US still has large areas of wilderness, forest, and protected wildlife habitats for people to enjoy.
About what Tachikoma said. That sounds true. They haven't truly accepted outsiders, and some are quite xenophobic. That said if you can pull off a Commodore Perry and crack the barrier, that'd be very impressive. It would mean that you are one of the best and brightest that there is in the world.

Hmm, tbh i can't really say that I love my country, as a German you still have to be careful about what you think about your country.
But i can say I'm proud of what the EU is and what Germany "did for the" EU and I always hope that the EU will unite more and more and someday is a country on its own (dreams).
So you could say i really love the EU (no checks@border; you don't need to change your currency; pretty easy to move within the EU etc.), but that's only my opinion a lot of Germans think differently.
I'm quite satisfied with their foreign policy (I preferred Schröder's over Merkel's tho; to explain the differences would take a while~) (contra Iraq war, more or less pro Russian (under Schröder))
I like Germany's environmental policy, though concerning greenhouse gases and global warming our current administration is slacking off >_> (contra Nuclear Power, pro solar energy, etc.).
I can say I'm pretty happy living in Germany and not in any other Country (France and the Scandinavian countries would probably be as good 😀 ).
and yea of course if you compare America with Africa and a lot of Asian countries America is still better for living, but if you compare it to some European countries, it'll probably lose (in aspects of politics and law).
I've only drove thru America for a few hours so I can't say I know Americans, from what I've heard/read the people are usually very nice and easy to talk with. I guess that's better compared to Germany, where a lot of people are really distant at first (also depends where in Ger you are).
PS: hope what i wrote is readable -..-"

For the most part I do like living in my country (USA) but of course there are good & bad things, and I'm sure my life in small town Idaho is very different from the life I'd have in a big city somewhere.
I don't think I have a special attachment to life in the USA, other than it's the only place I've lived so I'm used to it, and my family is all (well, almost all) here. If I had the right motivation/reasons, I wouldn't mind moving to another country. Canada looks awfully good some days... 😉

I completely agree with Kaioh, the whole 9/11 thing has caused a lot of conflict. Specially now that there are people everywhere speculating about the validity of what they were told. Some think that the connections between bush's family and some middle easterns implies that bush did it. I still don't understand how a Steel building can collapse during the fire but not after the explosion...
anyways, I enjoy where I live, the infamous Dallas. The city debbie visited. The state with the some of the lowest state rankings. I think we're the worst in children's health care. Our constitution is horrible. And the majority of Republicans want to keep it the way it is.
I like my neighbors, thats all that matters to me at the moment.

Answering this is a little off topic, but essentially the towers were designed to withstand just about any major natural disaster- thus still standing after impact- however those two jet liners were fueled for a coast-to-coast flight with several thousands of gallons of jet fuel. That much (high octane)fuel plus lots of time plus the surrounding concrete (acting as a giant oven) makes a very very hot foundry that melted down the towers steel 'spine', dramatically reducing the weight each tower could sustain.
On topic, I love my country (USA) but certain politicians have made me worry about the direction we are headed. While I don't really approve of a good number of things Bush has done, he was, and my opinion still is, a much better choice than Al Gore could ever have been. I also don't have a very good opinion of Bill Clinton (or at least the things he did, or rather didn't do, while in office) but things like that are in the past and can't be changed- only learned from. Unfortunately, the Republicans had their chance to fix a lot of the issues that went wrong, but they screwed up just as bad as their counterparts.
All things considered though, and also after visiting and researching other countries I can honestly say I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else -- although there are a couple places that take a very close second 😉

This question is really tough to answer.
Let's see, I migrated from Hong Kong to Singapore before it was returned to China so I'm still holding the British passport. Officially, I'm a 'British National (overseas)' which doesn't really make sense.
I know Singapore's history better than its citizens (oh yes, I do), sung their national anthem for 10 years and speak in their accent very well. Still, all these does not make me a Singaporean and I do not recognise myself as one either.
I tell people I'm a Hong Konger all the time but honestly, I don't even remember how the HK flag looks like. On top of that, my mom is Malaysian. Does it make me half-Malaysian? I seriously have no place of identity.
