Not really. I was scared of mimes when I was a little kid instead of clowns.

Yes it's the same reason as some of you have already mentioned.
When I was still a little kid, my cousins were watching IT and naturally as a kid you're curious so I watched some parts, too. And now I'm scared.
I also remember how they watched Nightmare on Elm Street...
