I'm looking for any romance where the male MC is confessed to by a girl (or she clearly infers that she likes the guy) but he has such an inferiority complex (or other reasons) that he can't even comprehend that she could possibly like him.

This recently happened in

Koe no Katachi and I found it interesting.

Please no: yaoi, tragedy, horror

I'm current;y reading Tonari no Yamada-san and both male and female lead have this. I mean they like each other, each one knows the other one likes someone, but they can't comprehend that in fact their feelings are mutual. Unfortunately, the manga is untranslated and I had to import it as there are no RAWs on the net (there are RAWs for pilot and later chapters but not for the first and a half volume).

Sorry if that's not very helpful.

Maybe Itoshi no Karin? He kinda thinks like that too...

And that chapter in Koe no Katachi! So cute! "Chuki..."

^I agree it was super cute and really unexpected. 🙂

I just recently started (and am eagerly awaiting more chapters) of Itoshi no Karin. Great series only 8 chapters in. I should have made sure that I have an updated reading list.

Ultimate inferiority complex: Nana to Kaoru. She doesn't confess, yet (I'm not up-to-date), but come on! She lets him do stuff to her....

Edit: Oh, you're already following it. My bad.

I think that was a major plot point for Accel World. Haruyuki as a fat, short, bullied guy on the bottom of the social ladder is pretty much incapable of understanding why the tall, thin, popular and beautiful Kuroyukihime is interested in him, despite how obvious it is to everyone else. it is not that he doesn't notice, he simply refuses to accept it.

As for other reasons in Lovely Complex, Otani has so friend zoned Risa that even her most obvious aggressive advances and direct confessions bounce off of him. It is why I like to call him the densest romantic lead in all of manga/anime and given how many romantic manga and anime I have consumed that is not a title I give out lightly.

Lovely Complex the tall female MC clearly loves the short male MC. but he doesnt feel the same way, he like her as a friend.

Taiyou no Ie a broken home girl who falls in love with her childhood friend.

Kanata Kara female MC falls in love first with her savior in another world.
