Asus eeePC's are pretty decent bits of kit, though I'm not familiar with the model you stated.
It's good to know you didn't succumb to your inner Paris Hilton and get the iPad. Even if the iPad does turn out to be a decent thing, waiting a couple of quarters might give you better prices, although I expect some decent Google Android/Chrome OS based alternatives to be out by then (hopefully), sporting the better ARM cpu and possibly a variant of Nvidia's Tegra graphics chipset. There should be some substantial developments on the Meego platform front as well (it's a merger between Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin) which is supposed to support multiple hardware architectures. Oh, and all the variants I mentioned are open source based, meaning there'll be no Microsoft or Apple poison in them. Only time will tell how decent they'll be, but I'm hopeful after checking out various development builds.

It's good to know you're capable of being sensible with your hard-earned money (some part of me says you still would have bought the iPad if your parents gave you the money, though 😛 )

With regards to the Asus vs PS3 when it comes to games, I think the PS3 would win hands down. ... but the Asus is definitely the more sensible decision for a student like yourself who needs to juggle school-work and play. (tbh, I dunno much about modern PC games)

Then again, it does seem like you're more or less set on getting an ipad for some strange reason, the ps3 has proven to be worth the cost, the ipad not so much . 😐
