Tagalog, English.
A little bit of Korean before, but now I don't even remember anything.
Tried learning Spanish, but I became lazy and put it aside.

3-4 languages.

English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
I use to know a bit of spanish because I lived in a very mexican-populated area for about 6 years, but I kinda forgot it all since I mainly use English now. (so i didn't count it in, because I can't even comprehend basic sentences at all anymore.) My Viet isn't even that great as well. v-v; So it'll be 3.2 languages that I know. smile

My first language is Finnish, and I've studied English, Swedish, French and German in school. I can also speak Japanese but I don't think it counts here, as I can't read or write it at all =w=||||

Quote from moritana
i think 27 languages are possible.
since languages come in families, most words and basics are shared.
for example- arabic and hebrew are sister languages. the basics are completely the same, and alot of the vocabulary is shared, like "arnab" in arabic (aka bunny) that is "arnav" in hebrew. the dots sistem, and more.
in the same way spanish, french, italian, latin and more are also sisters.
if u know one, you can understand the others, at least a little.
japanese, chinese, korean - same goes for them.

you have a important point. my mom knows french and she said she can understand spanish (when she went there).

it is said that japanese is related to turkish (i can see some similarities). or they are not related. there's a debate about it.

i can easliy learn some turkic languages pretty easy, for example i can understant some Azerbaijani without any learning.

hence if one goes for similar languages, one can easliy learn 27 languages.

I'm learning Japanese on my own very slowly, so far I only know the basics.

And I'll be learning German when school starts in September. smile And if that goes well I might try French.

I speak, write, and read perfectly in spanish, english and french. I know them not because I studied but because I had no choice but to learn them. I lived 7 years in france, now in live in Miami and I was born in Cuba laugh

I know 3 languages. Vietnamese is my vernacular, I can write and speak English fluently, same goes for French but not for the listening part.

It's amazing to see so many people knowing more than 3 languages. smile

Polite bump

understand/speak well:
Dutch
English

understand/speak halfheartedly:
French
German
Arabic

studied for a couple of years:
Latin
Ancient Greek

With these languages, I can also derive the basic understanding of languages in the same family. Like Spanish and Italian are both Roman languages, which I already have experience with (French, Latin, ... )

Languages are awesome. :'D

Oh right, and I know some Japanese words. Definitely more than the non-Japanese media person. Which doesn't really constitute as knowing a language, but meh, can be useful! xD

I love languages, but sometimes I lose interest while learning.

1: Spanish (Can be considered native language to me) Family speaks it
2: English (About 1 month later from Spanish XD or so my mom says) Live in California
3: German ( Started taking it in middle school // This is my 4th year)

I know basic Japanese XD Things I pick up XD But I study on my own at times.
French is understandable to me XD I'm not good at any communication of it, but my cousin speaks it and she tells me things in it-- I respond in German.
Portuguese XD I really like the Brazilian Portugues, even if it's a small change XD I like it since I understand it a tad better than I do French XD
