Quote from n8starr
English is my native, learned spanish both in early elementary school (just some vocab and phrases) and high school but went on to college to learn it fully. I am majoring in spanish, but I might change it to linguistics here pretty soon. I love langauges! I have studied (off and on) Japanese (took a couple college classes, caught on quite well), Russian, Farsi, Italian, Albanian and Indonesian.

woww you learned Indonesian?? i never thought there's actually someone who'd learn Indonesian bigrazz how was it? i personally thought Indonesian is very disordered embarrassed

English and Spanish. I know how to speak some VERY, VERY basic Japanese, but I don't think it really counts, since I couldn't function in japan at all with the slim amount I know, and can't write/read it at all. (I can ask where the bathroom is, know basic sentence structure, and know a bunch of single words.)

Bilingual:
-English and Spanish
My spanish sucks though because I hardly take time to perfect it and I mostly talk English in school except when me and my friends don't want others to hear us or a teacher. I have now resorted to Spanglish cry My dad loves correcting my Spanish grammar.

I'm trying to learn Korean and Japanese. I know basic Japanese but I resort to romaji laugh

Quote from Dr. Love
Quote from blakraven66
There was a Jesuit missionary who came to the school two years ago who could speak 27 languages

That's impossible.. I think.. He may know the basic words, but he can't speak all those languages fluently..

It's actually possible........ people who encounter mass-cultures as part of their business or everyday interaction might require u to go through this.......missionaries are a good example......and also people who live around religious pilgrimage areas........

one example: people in Mecca and Medina....many of them who run their business need to talk fluently and effectively in many even more than 30 at times since people from all over the world are coming..and many dont speak englsh.......all at once

besides one thing to note here once someone gets the hang of about 10 languages learning other languages takes less effort than b4....since many patterns will repeat...and also the brain will have the lingual side quite developed....... this is speciall true for people from Bukhara ( an area in east europe, near and around Albania, and the Phatans from north west Pakistan and Afghanistan.........not that I am one of them

Kinda similar to memorizing.......people who memorize whole books and scriptures after a certain point have an easier time than they did b4

aside that for me i can identify with 3 well
-urdu/hindi: theyre basically the same except i dont know hindi scripture
-English
-Arabic.....although i need to brush up and learn more

the other 4 persian, spanish and the 2 asian subcontinental languages i knew are almost gone from my memory.....ghujarati and sindhi.so those dont count......ican only understand and write basic sentences......wouldnt be able to follow a complex conversation

.........man i suck
