I bet your mom would be able to help you with Spanish too, it's really close to Tagalog.

You sort of remind me of my Filipino friend who was born here. Her mom forced her to learn Tagalog... except for the pronunciation, she speaks it better than me 🤣

No i didn't get that from you -.-

Sorry if I offended you.. 😛 Just had a similar sentence on the first page..

Quote from mugglezor

I guess that last sentence means somethin g like
"But naturally I come from Northern Nederland"

Something like that.. 😃

Quote from xShatteredSoulx

I feel so pathetic... I only know English. I'm hoping that when I get older though, I will be able to learn others.

You're still 16.. You've got lots of oppurtunities to learn other languages.. But do it when you're still young, is my advice..

Next year, I have to begin my two years of a Foreign Language required in order to get into a UC school and I'm not quite sure which language I should choose. Since my school is uber crappy, the only choices we have are to learn Spanish or French, both of which I have no real interest in It would make sense to learn Spanish, since I live in CA, but I don't really want to...Tell me, which is easier? ;D

I don't know about Spanish.. But I find French grammar really easy.. And as long as you sometimes refresh your French vocabulary, it will be a walk in the park.. At least, in my case.. But I tend to not refresh my vocabulary.. >.> Too lazy for that..

And yes, French is pretty fun, if you can fluently speak it..

You told me otherwise!

And if you remember the important words, you can still survive 😛 Who cares about minor words like, legumes... 🤣

That's not true.. 😛 I said grammar was easy, but the vocabulary is where I screw up.. >.> Just in case, I'll look it up what I said.. 😀

Edit: I looked it up.. 😛 Those were my exact words..

***But French itself is easy, I think... Like grammar and stuff.. But it's the vocabulary that bugs me.. I never remember my words.. And I'm always too lazy to restudy them.. 🤣 ***

Well, fluently- which is all that really counts for me when people say, "How many languages do you know?".

English and Filipino(Aka Tagalog). Filipino is actually basically my second language, I know english far better then my own native tongue. Even though I live here, but I don't really talk to people much so.

In the bits and stuff, I'd say I know a few sentences for Japanese, Spanish and Latin. Though Latin, is because of mothers religion, which makes me go to church every-sunday, and they sing latin hymn, and pray in latin. Though the rest is english. So as a result, I memorized the prayers and a little bit of the songs. And what they mean. And spanish, well, Dad's obsessed with me and my sister learning spanish, yet he hasn't enrolled us in a school. 🤣 Also it's similar to my native tongue, Filipino. And Japanese, well, I watch subbed anime WAY too much. XD

lol...its almost the same way with me...I've lived in the Philippines all my life yet i still haven't gotten the hang of using Tagalog...maybe its because I'm in Davao and we use Bisaya (its like the difference between Kanto and Kansai dialect of Japan)...but even that i have a hard time understanding the deeper words...chinese well we use it at home alot so it kinda grows on me...but English is still my best language...Japanese...watching subbed anime too 🙄

Fluently: English, Russian
Basic/somewhat fluent: can read but definitely not fully understand Spanish and Latin, can mostly understand and read Ukranian as well as understand Polish. I also know some Japanese phrases after watching anime for 1--2 years.

XD Zomg, no wai. Actually, I've rarely met any Filipino who were more fluent in English then Tagalog. Usually all the ones I've met are still fluent in tagalog yet with perfect grammar in english. Then again, I do live in Manila, though I do go to bacolod from time to time, and I guess I know a little bisaya. That's so cool, though. XD /Relates! 🤣

uhhh...I'm Chinese btw...but i guess I'm a Filipino citizen 🤣 most of the Filipinos I've known are not very good with English grammar so i help them in English...and i get them to translate Tagalog/Bisaya words I don't understand 🤣 And sometimes when they're talking, I force them to talk to me in English when their Bisaya gets too deep 😛

Well, still, you lived here and yeah. XD Although I do get what you mean when 'talking too deep'. @_@; Luckily mostly anyone I know speaks to me in english, so I rarely have trouble with that. I tend to embaress myself when speaking to other people though, when I use Filipino. XD

Hehe time to brag thanx Moritana. 😀

In order:
papiamentu
Spanish/Dutch
English
portuguese
Bits of italian, japanese, french and taki taki

@moritana
it does get annoying thinking in three different lenguages or searching for a word in a lenguage while the same word pops up in your head in other lenguages.

Funny thing is dutch school systems insist that students learn a minimum of three lenguages two being dutch and english ((optional are french, german, spanish) some schools even teach latin and greek well the basics anyway)
But most dutch people mostly forget the other lenguages after HS

Well about the forgetting part I think it happens when they don't use them much. But like America Holland is a country were people can get far while only knowing dutch. So I think besides English not all lenguages are taken seriously they just follow them because the school says so

Geen van beide ik kom uit de Antillen, maar ik ben nu wel in nederland voor studie

You are from the antilles but came to netherland for your studies? Did I get this right? Were you from Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint-Eustatius (Statia) or Sint-Maarten? Is taki taki the dialect over there?

Yes you're correct and to i'm from Curaçao actually. Oh taki taki is the unofficial lenguage of Surinam.

But I'm curious where are you from mugglezor 😕 ?
Cause not many people know of the antilles let alone the name of the islands
