I love my old dorm~~~It was so much fun living in one.
Didn't have a roommate though. I don't think I can stand sharing a room with someone (possibly a stranger) over a long period of time.

I lived in the dorms for three semesters, & it was okay but not great. A good way to start out at college, I guess - didn't have to worry about rent, utility bills, cooking, etc. My roommate & I actually got along quite well (we're still friends, though we don't keep in touch very well).
The dorm I lived in was made up of "suites", with each "suite" having two rooms with two people in each room, & one bathroom shared by all four. Each room had a sink & big mirror, so there wasn't a problem with anyone hogging the bathroom to do their hair etc. But...the door into the bathroom was in my suitemates' room, so I had to go into their room & then into the bathroom, and fairly often one or the other would bring guys home, which made going through their room a bit uncomfortable. 🤢
The third semester there were enough open spaces in the dorm that my roomie & I each had a single room & shared the bathroom, and that was great - but then I did a study abroad semester, & lived in an apartment after that.

I lived in the dorms once, during my freshman year, just to have the whole "dorm life" experience... though, I was placed into a male dorm room because I was somehow confused as a guy (my name probably, but seriously, shouldn't you check the sex?!).. and it was too late to switch out because there wasn't a female dorm room to place me in... so, it was definitley an interesting year...
We had a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen.. but we all shared one bedroom.. and one bathroom.. let me tell ya.. I would never want to share a bathroom with 3 males again..
If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.
I've never been in a dorm so I don't know if I like it or hate it yet. (n_n)

I personally don't live in the dorms because my university is a 40 minute walk from my house. So I get there in 20 minutes on the bus. It's a 10 minute walk to the bus station. But a lot of my friends live in dorms and I drop in from time to time. I'd say on average living in dorms is a good experience. But some of them have really weird roommates, but even then they love the dorms.

I think it would be interesting, though, but I doubt I'll ever live in one.

My family doesn't want me to, and I'd rather not fight when the time comes.

I agree. Usually, classes in college are huge (some at my school are 2000+), and the chances of you meeting someone and becoming friends in class is a lot lower than in grade school. Dorms are an excellent way of meeting new people and partying with them... as long as you moderate the amount of partying you do. Also, if you live fairly far away, and there are school events or 1 hour lectures, you're less likely to go, because chances are, commuting takes up more time than the event/lecture (my commute is 3hours).
