Oh I loved living in the dorms (lived in it 1st year). I'm not gonna lie... I was scared when I moved in... on the first day, I literally stayed in the room (because half of the dorm moved in on Saturday and the rest moved in on Sunday to ease up traffic). It wasn't until my roommate arrived the next day (and everyone else) were we started interacting with each other.

It was a 50 person dorm: 2 floors, 3 suites per floor... and... 4-5 rooms per suite. The dorm was co-ed, but the suites were single sex. In a suite: it's 8-9 people sharing a bathroom (2 toilets, 2 showers, 2 sinks and a large mirror) and a "common area" (couch, coffee table, round table with 4 chairs, plenty of plugs for laptops, a huge whiteboard and a beautiful view/large window).

The dorm had a "common room/living room" where we'd watch movies, hold hall meetings, sing happy birthday... We also had a kitchen (one fridge, electric stove, microwave and sink -- but all of us had meal plans so the kitchen was more for popcorn, midnight snacks, etc...) with another white board, several round tables and chairs, a ping-pong table and a foosball table. Granted, we sometimes wanted to kill the boys who played ping-pong 24/7 when we were studying or the boys who would make popcorn and make the whole suite smell like it at midnight. There was a hall study room (but no one really used it that often b/c we liked our suite common area <3) and a laundry room -- so gotta time laundry right. looooool.

I was lucky. My roommate and suitemates got along really well. There would always be one of us in the suite common area with our books, laptops, study gear ready for laughs and conversation. Though... it was more social because... well... we were procrastinators. We would share snacks like cheez-its, oranges, naan with yohgurt/olive oil, brie + baguettes mmmmmmmm... so fun! I miss it so much... And because we had awesome T1 internet connection (thank you, university!!), we'd download and watch shows on a laptop -- imagine 6 girls crowded on a couch/chairs to watch some drama or movie. bigrazz Oh memories...

But I'm not saying everyone will have a fun experience. I loved it. And I loved bringing "honorary" hallmates over (commuters and friends from other dorms).

i love dorms!! even though i had some friends through my orientation program for my college, when we separated, which eventually happened, i started making friends on my floor. and now i am friends with some of the most amazing people ever~!

.. i honestly don't know what i'd do if i didn't live in a dorm. :/ go crazy perhaps?? i think i'd be pretty lonely too.. me and my roomie always leave the door open. not to be cheesy, but it does have a sense of community. at least our dorm! and.. oh.. if i hadn't met my roommate, i probably wouldn't have joined a sorority with her either - which i also love! so i would definitely not trade living in a dorm with anything. especially my first year, it's already rough enough!

even if it's small, and we have communal bathrooms, and my roommate yells at me for walking around in a towel (her boyfriend is like our third roommate haha, he sleeps on the futon - buuuut, he gave us his 42 inch tv 8D .. so i don't mind) dorms are amazingggg. i couldn't even imagine commuting or living at home..

although.. our floor is tile, so i get a little grossed out at the visible dirt and hairs sometimes.. bleehh.. and such a small room can get messy real quick! but just small complaints in the scheme of things.

Spent my first year at uni in a dorm and it was a lot of fun. I went to a college about 4 hours from where i grew up, so it was a totally different place and i knew no one there. lived in a dorm room with two other guys on the top floor of the building. The dorm was co-ed and a bit off of the main campus so we got to have some fun parties, because there was not a lot of people walking around to see the stuff we were all doing lol, and the RA lived two floors down. Also, my room was right next to the fire escape so we just used that to get into the room going through the window in the middle of the night or to sneak in alcohol without having to go in through the front door. I met almost all of the people that lived on my floor, about 30 people, all good people from all over the place leaned from them. anyway dorm life is what you make of it if you don't want to mingle then you will probably hate it, but if you are willing to get out and talk to all of the new strangers you now live with it could be a lot of fun and you can learn a lot.

I can't actually say I've lived in a "dorm", here it's called "lodging" (or at least that's what the translation of the word said) and it's almost always same-sex. If you want a co-ed, then that would need an apartment.

Well, my "lodging" was in the second story of a house near the university in a community where most houses are used for lodging. Mine had two bedrooms with two beds each, the kitchen-dinning-living space (which was quite comfortable), and a bathroom to share with all four (although we were three biggrin ). We didn't pay much compared to others and the price included only water; electricity, internet and the gas for the stove were covered by us.

I really didn't had a choice. I had to "lodge" since the university is considerably far from my house (although compared to others that live in the other side of the country, well... laugh ). My experience...wasn't the best. Me and my roomate were total strangers and, after a failed attempt of friendship, we didn't talk at all, only when we had to divide the bills or another important matter. It was like living alone; each one to their business. Factors that can tend to that might be the difference in schedules and such or so I think.

EDIT: Oh, forgot...I think it's a great experience. I mean, there's no mom or dad to tell you what you have to do. You have to manage your own time: you have to cook, you have to clean, you have to study, you have to pay the bills. I think it's part of becoming an adult; more independent.

I never lived in a dorm so I don't know..
but apparently my sister hates it. It certainly wouldn't be fun if you had roommate issues

I never lived in a College Dormitory, but they can't be that bad.

Open bay barracks suck ass. Dorms with common bathrooms suck ass. Living on the third floor sucks ass. Room inspections suck ass. Etc.
