Authors have rights, but when those rights go against the only rights of the common guy then something must be done about it... and lets phase it, this law is doing everything but help the authors, this helps those that OWN the authors, most mangakas are under contract, and that means they only get a fixed % of the money they make... and those are the smart ones, because most of the time they earn a salary and commission bonus and nothing else, most merchandise profit is given to the lechers we call publishers, with shouldn't exist.

I don't think there's anything wrong with people trying to stop piracy, but the methods they are going about it makes the cure worse than the disease. Did you read the part about third party's being held responsible too? That means baka-update's that doesn't host or produce any direct links to scanlations would also be held responsible and shut down as well and no amount of CYA (cover your ass) they currently do will make a lick of difference. Some people also say that even if ACTA passes it will take a year or two before the bureaucracy gets around to implementing it... hey has anyone downloaded anything from megaupload lately? NO, because it's gone, shut down, and there HAS YET to be a trail despite 330 million of seized/frozen assets. What happened to due process? Now doesn't that seem like an ominous precursor for things to come?
I believe if ACTA passes they will have no problem implementing it. Only very savvy hackers and real pirates will have the tech know how to slip through to loop holes in the system. No, what ACTA is going to do is police and inhibit the freedoms and rights of the average joe on the street. Sad really.

Why, you know, just the other day, I was in a bookstore, and as I had recently just finished rereading both Twilight and The Hunger Games for 44th and 38th times respectively, I thought there was something else I might want, but the best sellers table was just filled with books with similar covers that claimed to be "sequels."
