Guys, guys, guys, you're coming at this all wrong.
The common English pronunciation is moot, since it isn't an English word in the first place.
"Magus" (the singular Latin form) is a word meaning "magician" or "sorcerer." "Magi" is the plural form. The way that they say it in the Japanese is the more correct way (with a hard 'g') if you want to keep with classical Latin.
English has a long history of mangling pronunciation of foreign words. In everyday speech, we pretty much only use the word "magi" to refer to the "three wise men" of the Bible story. Otherwise, we use other terms for magicians.
