Still reading this and... how is "small breasts" = "plain looking"? O__o Fashion models don't have DDD chests either.
On a side note, I'm also curious who so many shoujo heroines seem to have loose shoulder length hair. Maybe it's a cultural difference but I see very few girls and women with hair that length, it's usually either longer or shorter, and same goes for the (Japanese) real action movies I've seen. And you'll never see a shoujo girl with "tsundere twintails" (long twintails situated high on both sides of the head), or at least I haven't, even on a cover of unread manga.

It's probably common in Japan. In South Korea shoulder length hair is really common with school girls. Some schools have stipulations on it.
Do you know how bothersome that type of hair would be? If you have pigtails that reach the waist (like i see in some shounen) that means their hair would be at least classic length. Long hair can be very annoying, it gets caught in things (zippers, doors, arm pits etc.) and it can be hot. Also, real talk it's not that fashionable. Think of some really fashionable women how often do you see them in pigtails? I generally only see pigtails if someone is into some subfashion(generally a weave) or wants to look super cutesy. Pigtails are not fashionable at all. :uhuh: Most teens and women want to look their age and pigtails are something that are associated with little girls.

Also @coffee_11...I don't know a ton of straight guys that are particularly interested in seeing other guys' cocks. lol
And @Klapzi
I don't think you all actually get what I am talking about. Did you actually try to understand vintage shounen manga like City Hunter. Sure, such manga are rare today. They do show big cocks, which were pretty common when I read manga in the 1980s and early 1990s. But I am not saying straight guys like to see them in a sexually exciting way. Like I said, readers might regard having big cocks as being a hero or "ideal man". It's pretty similar to many of today's movies targeting guys having huge muscles. They are not there to sexually arouse straight guys, but to be worshiped or identified as a symbol of masculinity. Of course you all know movies have more strict censorship than vintage shounen manga. Therefore the latter can show cocks.
I understood what you said, but seems like you didn't understand what I said.
All men have and "ideal girl" but "ideal guy"? Our dad is the closest you will get.
Then again, the male of almost any animal species is by nature extremely competitive, humans aren't an exception. Even if it is manga it won't bring us any joy to know that any guy dick is big. Maybe you can be happy for him to get more girls since he isn't competing with you (he is a manga). But the size of the dick? Never. Because he is an "ideal man"? No

see I actually disagree with you. Men have ideals about themselves and they have to be shaped by someone. I don't think you will consciously realize it, I don't think men are socialized to think like that honestly. There are definetly a reason dudes in manga are muscley or good at fights (though most of them are ugly imo... but i suppose that's because i'm a women) I think if didn't matter more shounen heroes would be twinkish.
Likewise I can't say I have an ideal women in mind. There are people i'd like to be like and who have shaped my perception of myself but I wouldn't call them an ideal.

I don't think men should be good at fights, yet I like a protagonist good at fights, why? Because I like fights, and if he is going to be good at fights he should also be muscular, that is just common sense, not idealizing man. And no, it isn't because you are a woman that you find male shounen protagonists ugly, they are ugly indeed. There is no reason for they to be beautiful, why would a man WANT to see another beautiful man?
Ah, and shounen heroes are in their majority wimps or kids in every sense aside from fighting or body, what only will not contradict your whole point if you think that men are all about fighting and dick size.
That's is another topic I will "retire" of, dicussing men mentality with women and vice-versa. I will say to you what I always say to my girlfriend when we get in a topic like this
Put yourself in my shoes, wouldn't you think that I am extremely conceited to think I can discuss how a female thinks with a female? Don't you think it would be presumptuous to think I can teach you about what you are? Wouldn't you find strange that even tough you and every female you know say one thing, I insist that I know better than you all about yourselves?

I know, I used to have waist long hair for years, and it's only a little shorter now, though I don't wear pigtails. XD
But my question was yeah, there is a lot of girls with that hairstyle in shounen, there must be a reason.

Yes, all men have an ideal of how girls should be and an ideal of how they want to appear themselves (hench an ideal of how guys should be). It's the same for women, it's the same for every human being. Everyone has an ideal for this, even though it may be subconscious. This ideal is built from environment and instincts in a combination.
Sure the ideal can be your dad, but it isn't as simple as that. Even your friends, hobbies (for instance manga), commercials, TV-programs, et cetera mold your conception of what is ideal. This. Is. A. Fact. And you cannot escape it - muhahahaha.

Why take offense when there is nothing wrong with small breasts? As far as I have come to learn, the breast size doesn't matter that much to women (it's always tricky to generalize) compared to what womens' breast size means to men. But of course, if men ditch women with small breasts, there can arise a discomfort in women with small busts...

It's a bit like the height issue with girls. Some girls think their guy totally has to be quite a lot taller than they are.

As I just mentioned, it can very well be subconsciously -only-, which may be why you so furiously try to deny being a part of it.
But if I should put it more simply, do you think that a man should have one or two legs? Two, I may presume. See, even that is an ideal. Do you dislike specific haircuts for men? Do you like/dislike when males wear lipstick or nail polish (would/would you not do it yourself)? That's part of your ideal too. All your likes and dislikes concerning appearance, behavior et cetera makes up your ideals. Well, I could go on, but if you wish to stay stubborn, please feel free.

Ahh, No, I really don't want to "discuss" with someone that can't tell the diference between ideals and a person with all of them.
Edit: I also would like to say that I don't see the point of your post. If I say it's impossible for someone to fit all my ideals, you can assume that I believe ideals exist. And also that I would be stubborn if we were actually discussing, what we aren't since I never disagreed with you, I'm just trying to clear a misunderstanding you did with what I wrote.

I had this same question too. And it annoyed me that I had bigger boobs than most of the shojo characters that I read. Those characters were older than me and I was at least expecting a majority of them to have something
Today that ends because I've looked at this map: (please click link)
http://www.targetmap.com/viewer.aspx?reportId=5285
As you can see Japan's average cup size is A so then a story or in this case a shojo about a girl most likely would have an A cup. If I was a person writing a story about a girl she would be modeled after something that is usual to me-->C & D cup girls. The mangaka is just using the normal in their country.
This no tits thing was weird to me because I live in America and you can see that our average there is like D (I think that's mostly due to obesity though and surgery, but what do I know?)
P.S. WAY TO GO RUSSIA -->referring to the map
P.P.S
It seems that people are talkin 'bout confusing things like ideals.
Even more confusing is your quoting people who quoted other people and therefore I'm lost within a world of quotes.
Any how I'm gonna try to inject my self into this conversation debate thingy since I just <3 them so much
So some one please update me on the arguments that are happening so I can join
