Blue (Ignore the shoujo-ai tag if you're not into that; there's only unrequited GL here, and no girl x girl scenes at all)

K no Souretsu

The last 3 chapters of Kiseki no Koibito

I hope that I looked up "screentone" correctly... (I apologize in advance if these actually have screentone)

Gokusen
Usagi Drop and any other work by UNITA Yumi?
work by ONO Natsume I think...
work by NAKAMURA Asumiko??

Seconded! I can't believe I forgot about these two mangaka - they draw in very unique styles.

But I disagree with Are You Alice? From what I can recall, the art has a quite bit of screen-tone - though perhaps not as much as that of most manga.

Wait... can someone really tell me what "screentone" is? All I get on google/wiki is "alternative to hatching, etc..."

Because if it's that... "pointillism" background then... Usagi Drop fails... T_T

Well...it's, you know...shading. Like when the mangaka uses various shades of grey for drawing and colouring, apart from just black and white. The OP gave a very good example of a manga with screentone-less art; xxxHoLic. You see how the colours are either black or white, with little to no grey colouring / cross-hatching / shading etc., right? And there's no 'water-colour effect' to the art. It's all very starkly contrasting.

I love that style too, btw. So I'll be watching this topic 🙂

@hobbitelf518 screentone is that gray-ish "shading" you see in manga, it's also used for patterns. http://screentone.deviantart.com/ will give you some example on it. Basically, anything in manga that isn't black, or white, is done with tone.

@OP

Check out other CLAMP works, maybe?
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle might work.

If you don't mind BL, MINAZUKI Akira doesn't use much tone, if any...

Naked Ape doesn't use much screentone in their works either. They do both BL and non-BL so if you don't like BL, they have some shoujo for you.

Screentone is a type of shading, not shading itself.

Oh okay (I think...)! Then... UNITA Yumi useless the less than manga norm for screentone. 😀 (I remembered thinking: zomg... the contrast is crazy at some points in Sukimasuki)

Thanks @cyclamen and @miko amayo for the definition/explanation of screentone! Yay! Something new I learned today!! 😃
