Site Poll - Chat Box 145 - Target Demographic
Good characters and plot is all that matters to me, not the demographic.

My (very) first manga was categorized as Sienen, so I've never really ruled out any manga based on specific male vs. female marketing. If it matters, I'm female. Though I tend to skip around shounen, shoujo and a bit of josei. I might search specific categories and genres but it's a story I'm looking for and if something about the art, story or characters speaks to me, I'll definitely keep it in mind and usually it's better when things don't fit the mold.

I read most things, unless it is about another ten year old saving the world (again)
And stupid main characters (not limited to ten year olds)

Although I read all demographics listed, I prefer seinen/josei manga in general. I think I have about 85% of shoujo in my unfinished list, but I never drop stuff from Aoike Yasuko and Hagio Moto, two of the Magnificent 49ers group.

I'll technically read anything. This very rarely ends up being Shoujo or Josei though. 😁

I read all demographics. But I do favour shoujo/josei and then seinen. I think I read shounen the least because unless the story is quite good I am put off by ecchi. However, I've still read lots of shounen too since there are great shounen manga like FMA and Angel Densetsu. My favourite manga span all the demographics, so there's no way I would reject a manga solely based on demographic.
Edit:
And I actually think that shoujo/shounen and josei/seinen are perhaps just as valid pairings as those listed in the poll. Why? Because the former are aimed at younger people and the latter are aimed at adults. Then it becomes a question of age rather than gender.

I mainly read Shoujo/Josei, but I read manga in any demographic, weather be Shounen/Seinen or Shoujo/Josei.
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

I read all 4 demographics. It'd be boring to read to just one or two, and all demographics have some real gems, regardless of the age-group / gender / sexuality they're aimed towards.
I simply don't understand why people get so worked up over there being fanservice for one gender in demographics aimed towards that gender (guys seem to be unusually pissed off at the bishounen in shoujo/josei, and girls are always complaining about the 'moe' girls in shounen/seinen) I don't see why. I'm not the least bit irritated by either of those things. Of course, being a girl, I don't like heavy ecchi -- but I don't like manga overpopulated by brainless bishounen who exist only to provide the leading lady with a harem either 🤣

I read almost every genre, except shounen (but I do watch shounen anime). But the genres I like the most are yaoi, shoujo, and josei. I never really thought that I like those genres more because I'm a girl, I just like those genres more because I like reading about romances, which I guess is kinda girly. Although, I do usually like the artwork of seinen better than shoujo.

Yeah... I don't even bother with what demographic they're directed at tbh.. I just read anything.. I also never remember which demographic means what.. Or rather.. Nvm.. People should know what I mean and if they don't it's not important enough to them. =)
But yeah.. I had to actually check and it turns out I read a lot directed at all sorts of people. x]]

I use genres to filter what I'm reading so I know that I like Josei over Shojo and Seinen over Shonen. And like most people I have read great story from all kinds of genre. But depending on my mood, I'll want to read something more full of action or Romance so I'll pick but the plot is always more important than the genre.

I don't read Shojo and only rarely do I read Josei.
It's not just because it's not targeted at my demographic I just don't like it. I haven't read a lot, true, but I tried a couple of times with two shojos that are supposed to be 2 of the best and didn't really get past the first few chapter (Kimi ni Todoke and Dengeki Daisy). So I concluded that I should focus on shonen and seinen and since there are so many things I haven't read yet in those two it doesn't really bother me.
