Some masterpieces don't really have nice art, but they are still masterpieces.

What is ugly to some might not be for others... A friend of mine bought a manga, but gave it to me because she thought the art was ugly... while I thought it was cute (Yunagi no Machi Sakura no Kuni)
I think story is more important...
I did dropped some because of the art... But I can't remember the names now... Also, when I think the art is ugly I always keep reading until I get used to it, or it gets better... (only if I like the story, obviously)
An example: Angel Densetsu the art was reaaaally ugly... Really, really bad! But while the art was horrible, the story was really good! And at some point I didn't care about the art anymore.
Also the art improves... and by the end it was very similar to Claymore (the author is the same).
If the art is bad, give the manga a chance... the story might be good, and the art might improve.
Now if the manga got a beautiful art... it will be pointless if the story suck.

I used to be very picky about the art, but not nearly as much nowadays.
Of course, it depends on the story.
If it's a hentai, I wouldn't bother if the art is not to my liking, for example.
I saw somebody mention Crayon Shin-chan.
It's one of the cases where the art isn't "pretty" per say,
but it definitely fits the spirit of the manga.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I don't know what to vote for this time. Because first of all, I think, you cannot say this art is good and this one's bad. It's a matter of what one's into. And second, I think, it's great if authors have a unique style. Even if it doesn't look "good" in somebody's eyes, if it is an expression of the author's style, I think, that's great. Third, for me the storyline is more important than the art, so, even if I really don't like the art, if the story is great, I will read it.
What I don't like is art that is "cheap" in the way that there's no love in it. Most of the mainstream art looks objectively good, but you don't feel the love in it ... In most of the cases, if already the art is cheap, the story is, too. So in these cases I don't bother reading.

Bah, I think there's a thread similar to this too. I usually look for the story so I don't mind bad art but I also read things even if its 'bad' if it has good art just to look at it.

No vote for me this time. None of them come even close.
I'm surprised there wasn't an option for "It's important, but not absolutely necessary if the story is good enough." I do love pretty art, and I'm more likely to pick up a specific manga if its art is good, but sometimes I love a story so much that it could be MS Paint stick figures and I would still read it.
Then there's also the issue of what we mean by "good." By "good," do we mean "art that we like," or do we mean "art that's objectively skillful?" Because there's art that only a very talented person could draw but that isn't to some people's taste, and there's art that's objectively bad (misshapen body parts and proportions, flawed perspective, etc. when clearly not done for artistic reasons) that people still like.

I dropped "Amon" because the art was so shitty I couldn't understand what was going on. Then again the story was shitty to begin with
Things I enjoy:
- Badassery. I love being, doing, and living it. I also enjoy seeing it as it usually makes me cry man tears.
- Badassness.
- Badasses.
- Badass mofos.
- Manly badasses.
Things that I hate:
- Wimpy protagonists.
- Girly protagonists (if they're men).
- Douchie protagonists.
- Idiotic protagonists.
- Over-the-line rude protagonists.

I agreed, Amon's art is crap, if you want some real action read Beserk (better gore art 😲 ). It's Amon but 10x better (in my opinion) 😀
D'oh!
I can"t stand messy art and weird unproportional eyes in manga.
I won't touch any Tanemura Arina's. Don't like her drawings.
Many titles I dropped : freesia, vagabond, superior, glass no kamen, ouke no monshou, .... .

vagabond
Vagabond? Really? I have find it hard to believe that someone would drop this series b/c it had bad art. I generally have found people to praise the art, rather than condemn it.
I'll never drop a manga solely b/c of the quality of the pictures. I've read too many awesome series with "bad" art (ex: Black and White, Angel Densetsu) and bad series with "good" art (Rosario + Vampire). Besides, its the story I'll remember in the long run, not the art quality.

Hypothetically, I'd drop a series if the art was messy, not 'ugly'. As in, the artwork is so carelessly done that I can't even tell what the heck is going on or who is who. But I haven't come across anything like that so far, and have yet to give up on a manga solely on the grounds that the art is 'bad'.
And I'd never read a manga just because the art is 'good'. Explains why I haven't picked up a single shoujo or josei romance...I love the art style in most of them, but the stories? 😔

Hatsukoi Limited
The only reason why I dropped this was because the art and everything was just exactly the same as Ichigo 100% and it really bothered me when reading Hatsukoi Limited after finishing Ichigo 100%.
There was also another manga that the art was just horrible that the moment I looked at the first page I dropped it. I can't remember the title but the art was like all pencil drawing without any finishing touches but I hear the story was quite amazing.

If I like the plot and/or characters, I don't care what the art style is. Pretty art is always a plus, but to me it doesn't make a good manga.
