Used to be a bit of a nazi, not anymore. There's a right way and a wrong way to correct someone on their spelling, and most ways I see people do it make them seem rude.

If I see something wrong with someone's writing, I keep it to myself unless there's something I didn't understand.

I can't help but make assumptions about people who type in leet and make lots of abbreviations- that they're lazy or overly casual. It's not good to judge someone prematurely though, so I try not to.

There are times to be casual, not typing in caps and all, and there are times to be more formal.
If you write differently than the majority in a certain situation, like in leet when no one else is doing it, people will judge you.
Whoever does this is obviously ok with it, so I'm not going to get worked up over it. They're being how they want, and there are more important things to be concerned about, you know? 😛

Just remember, someone talking in a way that you see as "improper" doesn't affect your own speech at all, so the best thing, I think, is just to let it go~
Often the nazis themselves are more annoying than those with bad writing.

For me it's okay, as long as it's readable.

What can be somewhat confusing are things such as forgetting to type certain words (> see the first post) and things as using "their" instead of "they're".

What is annoying though is reading longs posts that consist of solely 1 textblock >_> I mean how long does it take to make some appropriate spaces/allineas right ?!

The third option

I don't mind when people make mistakes, because people do. I do as well. Goddamn typos 🤣

As long as it's readable I don't really care. I personally try my best not to use any abbreviated words when typing, even on MSN. Also i'm aware that English isn't everyone's first language.

Text talk is something I don't like too see on the internet though. Text talk stays for texting so you can keep it down to 60 characters and not go over into 2 texts 🤣

I chose the third choice. I'm the same as tactics, as long as I can read it then it's fine to me.

I'm quite the grammar nazi.
I believe that if we let people go for things such as mispelling and grammatical errors, we're actually letting the stupidity grow.
Also, why sound like an idiot when you can sound like someone so much more smarter?

I once heard a comment by some teenager saying that people who type/chat properly(capital letters to start sentences, proper spelling etc) are more likely those who are old or probably potential child sex offenders - which I found quite offensive. So if you don't sound like some hick or a crack ho, you're either ancient or a potential pedophile. Great. -.-

I mean, sure, I make mistakes now and then, and I accept that and correct myself when I can. We're just human after all. But if someone types with some weird street slang, or TyP3s lIkE ThIs, it sorta ticks me off. I don't mind 1337speak though, but even that has its place.

What I'm saying is, if you wanna talk stupid, talk it where you know that there are people who can tolerate it....like a special chatroom/forum or an IM conversation, not on somewhere public like general forums :\

As long as I can understand it, it doesn't really matter to me. But I despise using it myself.

Grammar nazi here as well. If you are posting on a forum, then you should try to express your ideas in a clear, concise manner. Typos and the occasional "imo, tl;dr", etc. are excusable.

I try not to be a grammar nazi, but i also always try to type English properly. A grammar nazi won't tolerate misspellings and grammar mistakes of others ("tolerate" i used here means "bear, put up with or endure", does not mean "allow or permit" because normally people have their right to type words in their way, it's not a crime to permit or not), right ? but i 'm only intolerant of my own mistakes.Nevertheless, if someone types an internet slang that i can't look up in my dictionary, and esp the 1337 style, it will really piss me off. Anyway, for me, grammar mistakes are possible (i'm not a native English speaker) and people can feel free to point out my mistakes.

I don't mind "Iternetz speakin" but as Scyfon says, it has it's place.

There's a difference whether I post in a spam&fun thread or answer on a serious topic. Especially when I'm the one who's asking the question, I formulate my post in a polite way and being polite also includes to provide an easy readable text. I'm the one who wants others to respond to me.

I know that my grammar isn't the best, I'm no native speaker after all. But that's exactly why I need to avoid L33T even more in 'normal' discussions. Writing out the words with the help of the spelling checker shows at least that I made some effort despite the remaining mistakes. And so far, I haven't met a native speaker who would tell me off in a bad way.

Actually I'm glad when people point out mistakes I do repeatably. I'm 28 years old and school is long over for me. There's no one anymore to correct me and mistakes burn themselves into my daily English conversations, so I really really appreciate the help.

Using common acronyms like IMHO or AFAIK is fine if it's not overdone. But a forum is not IRC, so it should be used a little carefully. L33T can also be fun but in the respective threads or as a joke inbetween, not to post your detailed opinion on a interesting topic or ask a question.

I always try to type properly unless I'm in a hurry or something. For other people, internet speak is fine unless it's too difficult to read. Then, I just skip over it or become annoyed because I have to spend so long trying to figure out what they mean.

What is annoying though is reading longs posts that consist of solely 1 textblock >_> I mean how long does it take to make some appropriate spaces/allineas right ?!

Yes! I agree! This is almost more annoying to me. I always get lost in those giant posts without any breaks, or my eyes glaze over three lines in, and I skip the post.

Quoted for truth >.>

It's sometimes really sad to see just how much someone wrote and how many thoughts the person put into his/her text but nobody will read such a wall.

I am particular on grammar and spelling but in chatting, ims, sms and emails etc aka anything on internet, I give it a rest- and like netlingo there with smileys except for descriptive posts or informative posts-it gets pretty obvious even from short forms, whether u know english properly or not-...my first language isnt english but I suppose its been a rather personal aim to be good in this language though it gets confusing when English spelling/grammar is correct in one country and incorrect in another like UK and the US for example..I have had MS word giving me the red line for favour and colour not to mention the spell check add in in my browser 🙄

...in formal stuff like presentations, applications, letters etc, I am pretty visually sensitive to these especially spelling mistakes..

I skip over it and ignore it completely. It's a waste of time to read it. When was the last time you saw something intelligent typed in leetspeak? Be honest...

Exactly.

English isn't my first language, so I make mistakes all the time, and only use the most common abbreviation. At least I would like to understand what I am reading. 😀
