Wow, there's a whole lot of future English teachers in here. 🤣

This forum has worsened my English. 🤢 I learned how to spell correct English from games and the like (not a native English speaker). They usually use it in a precise and correct manner. But seeing such horribly written posts on this forum rubs off on me, and because of that it makes me sometimes doubt my own spelling...
So, shame on you! Use proper English, kthxbai.
(And yeah, text walls are the worst! Sentences need oxygen too.)

"Iternetz speakin" has nothing to do with not knowing the language well.
And hey, doesn't your native language has it's internet vocabulary or modern er.. embellishment nowadays? Mine hasn't developed internet speaking yet (or I haven't seen it yet 😲 ). It isn't very popular in common speach but when people use it they do speak properly (or try to 🙂 ). The only tendency I noticed is the intentional using of Russian words in Ukrainian spelling. Sounds mocking. (Some films actually have the vice versa (not for the laugh of course). surely disgusting)

I want to understand what you are saying without having to think thank you very much.

If it takes me more than 5 seconds to decipher a line I'm ignoring it.
Otherwise I don't care. Although I do have a preference for proper writing.

Normally I could care less how others type
unless I can't read it then I go and say something
to them. As long as I'm spelling correctly other
peoples way of typing isn't really that important.
Sometimes though my OCD will take over and I just
start correcting people without meaning to.

Lynira --- Grammar nazi posting a wall of text? 😛
I don't really care about simple spelling errors. It happens to everyone. I bet there's several errors with my text right here as well.. You really can't expect perfect spelling and grammar from multilingual persons. But when they can't even make their own language readable it's kinda.. Pathetic...
My texts can be somewhat jumbled up since my head kinda thinks faster and further ahead than my extremities can get it out.. So I write things here and there while trying to keep up. But I try my very best to make things as good as possible. And I tend to come back to edit things several times when I notice that I missed something important or messed up something... 😐
My English were better than 14yo British kids when I were 12.. That's really sad. -.- And I can hardly read what younger Swedes are writing at times. If you want to read something horrible, that's what you're looking for. It's one thing to talk that way, but they even write it like that. Quite frankly, it looks retarded. But maybe they are.. Judging by their conversations... -.-
But well, simple spelling errors like "movign" and whatnot is alright, it happens. But when they can't even spell the word in the first place it's disturbing. Or when they don't even bother to write out really simple short words like "you (u)", "for (4)", "too/to (2)", "wait (w8)" etc.. Do they really think it's that much faster to hit one button instead of three? It really does make them look stupid/retarded. And they don't seem to realize it, or just lol it off if you try to get them to make any sense.
lol/rofl isn't too bad though, but some people just spam it and think it's funny. There isn't really any good way to deliver feelings across across the internet without coming up with a word for it, thus "lol" was created. But when you start to go into "Roflmao" and further, then no. Some things can be funny once in a while if used correctly by persons that they fit (kthxbai? No, I never use it. But can be somewhat cute). But don't exaggerate!
Abbreviations are fine as long as they are somewhat common. It doesn't work if you make up your own all the time. laynsaeetu. (like abbreviating your next sentence and expecting everyone to understand). Americans in particular seems to love abbreviating things. Just look at all those FBI, CIA, SWAT, LAPD etc etc. When I lived in France I saw quite alot of horrible abbreviations as well, even on road signs.. "F.S.D.L --->" ....what...?
imo (in my opinion) is one abbreviation I use a bit, as well as etc, btw.. They're really common and somewhat annoying to type out, at least imo. Feels like I'm twisting my hand typing it out.. <.<
These days if someone writes something with "u" etc I tell them to write it properly or else I just ignore them. If things continue like this, then I'm really worried about the future 😔
Firefox comes with a spellchecker. Use it. And don't add in words that shouldn't be there. <.<

I don't like it when I have to stop and try and translate my native language from what appears to be gibberish into normal english. I don't mind missing punctuation or honest spelling mistakes, but to purposely corrupt the language is just annoying.

I confess to being a grammar *pirate *(not a nazi) but there are limits. Sentences should be coherent enough to read. On the internet, I don't care if someone makes a spelling mistake and I myself use chat-speak: in moderation.
You should always use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation in the real world.

Lynira --- Grammar nazi posting a wall of text?
Hey now, that "wall of text" is composed of three (or four if you count my little two-sentence intro) separate paragraphs, each containing four sentences; that is well within normal limits. Can't tell because there are no indentations at the beginnings of the paragraphs? Too bad, it's impossible to indent here. The grammar nazi in me causes me to hesitate to just put extra lines between paragraphs, but I went and fixed it up like that anyway, just for you.

I understand the use of it for texting since it's limited to what... 150 characters? However, I shudder whenever I see it used in emails, chats and social networking sites... I am tolerant of "lol" and "omg" and "btw" and "b/c"... and spelling mistakes, but when I see: "zomg u'z gotz 2 tlk lyk dis l337 way" I want to gouge my eyes out. Sorry... I can't understand a word you're saying...
