Pretty self explanatory. Of course with all these wonderful people giving recommendations and wonderful websites like mangaupdates I'd presume that's the bulk of how people come across new manga to read. But have there ever been any obscurer ways?

Personally, it was how I came across Kimi wa Pet. I was kind of in a vegetative state one day and googled 'Kimi wa' and was trying to think of an object I could put in that phrase. I was really quite shocked when the google's first suggestion was Kimi wa Pet. I mean after all. "You're my Pet" is perhaps not the first phrase that comes to mind. I was even more shocked to see it was a manga 🙂 . So I read it. And well, it was really utterly beyond my expectations and I never looked back 😛 .

Hm...I think it was my first experience reading Chibi Maruko-chan. I was 5-6 years old and it was my first manga.

It was one of those random things my parents bought from some carboot sale because it looked like children's coloring books. I remember it was quite old and tattered.

One day, I was in the mood to do some coloring (the other day my mom bought me some really nice coloring pencils)...I picked up the book [didn't know it's a manga!] and I looked at the pictures. The simplistic art impressed me, it was nothing I've ever seen before [I was so used to watching Disneys, barbie and western animations], I didn't understand the japanese scribblings on the manga but the I liked how the characters interact with each other. The storyline was so expressive that I can relate myself to the main character.

A few years later, my parents told me that the manga is an autobiographical story about the mangaka's childhood. 🙂

i think the only manga i came across in a weird way is thomas no shinzou
i was reading an article about socrates haha and then someone commented asking if its true that socrates was a homosexual...then i went to wikipedia to read about his death and trial(for corrupting the minds of young boys or something) then somehow i got to another wikipedia article about homosexuality in japan(at the time i was still new to the manga world,i think it was right after i was done reading Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari which was my first manga btw) and in the article there was something about yuri manga and i think revolutionary girl utena was listed under the examples...then i kept jumping from one article to another until i got to hagio moto(thomas no shinzou's mangaka) and finally i got to thomas no shinzou
i read the summary it sounded interesting so i looked for it and found it
btw i didnt know it was shounen-ai(i thought juli was a girl when i read the summary) until i started reading it
haha so from socrates to thomas no shinzou...internet is scary

in my mind.. i type things that just pop, for example i typed "Pop" and i got Beauty Pop!~! 🤣

A friend recommended it to me. It might not seem that weird, but this friend has almost a complete opposite taste in manga to what I do, so originally I was pretty apprehensive, and most of my series are things I hand-pick. Turned out great though, and I love the series.

I wouldn't say 'found' but the when of how I finally decided to read Kuroshitsji, I'd seen it around on the web but the idea of a butler in any way, shape or form had no pull on me (I could feel myself mentally yawn at the idea).

One day I was seriously bored/lonely and decided to stalk/search names of old friends on Facebook and up came someone with a Kuroshitsuji (of course I didn't exactly know that's what it was, only that it all seemed vaguely familiar) pic (Ciel, pink dress... need I say more?) and then at some point later googled the words 'Pink dress' and either 'anime' or 'manga', found it's match ala Cinderella style . I debated for a day or so before taking the plunge and the first chapter had me laughing, which is actually rather a bad sign with me but after I saw the Butler hanging like a bat out of hell from a chandelier I was essentially (my soul at least) sold 🤣

Browsing for H manga on SaHa.
That2ndGuy Jr. is very much ready.
Find Kodomo no Jikan.
Read and caught up to Japan releases.
Blue balls from hell (not from that manga, but from before).
Try to fap afterwords and it just wasn't the same. Hurt all day 😢

Trying to get (ex-)girlfriend into manga.
Looking up Josei (something I've never done as I normally read seinen).
Find Usagi Drop.
(Ex-)Girlfriend still dislikes manga.

Breakup follows; happier with manga than pursuing relationship with cuntface 😃
Finding that series was like the highlight of our relationship in my eyes. Well, the only thing worth remembering at least. Having sex with her was like fucking a corpse 🤣 🙂 😐 🙁 ... ow my heart. Just remembered she died recently... >_>

There was also a time when I was in school (10 years ago) where some kid "Kamehameha"ed me. Offended, I kicked his ass. In the principal's office, I found out it was from DBZ. During suspension I watched some on what was Toonami on Cartoon Network and LOVED it. Befriended kid who I beat up and still friends to this day. Since then I've watched every episode of DBZ 3 times 😔

No, they don't know much about mangas. I was curious about the manga so I asked my parents to get more, then my dad asked his japanese friend about the book.

This probably isn't the weirdest way to come across manga,but it definitely is a desperate way haha.Well,firstly I love reading and watching romantic stories....so, one day last summer I remember I had run out of good romantic comedies to watch,so I was searching around the net for good books.Someone had posted something about manga---Japanese comics.I decided to see if there were any romance related ones, but unfortunately I soon found out that most shoujo mangas are over-cliched and quite annoying---I ended up dropping most of the ones I attempted to read 😔

There are times when you will miss what you never had. I wonder how you will find what you so desperately need.

My first experience with manga was weird. Me and my friend were chillin' out at my place when his mother came in to pick him up and hands me an issue of Shonen Jump and says, "I got the wrong order from a catalog." so she gave it to me. I was hooked instantly. Although I only read it originally for Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z (I was a hardcore Yu-Gi-Oh fan was I was around 10 years old 😛 ). After two re-reads I finally realize I have to read it right to left (that explained why I couldn't figure out why the person who died came back in the next page). 🤣

I was introduced to Tenjho Tenge in a weird way too, but I haven't ever read it. It was by a friend flashing an nude bath scene from a page of a manga (Tenjho Tenge) that was found in a school library. (Why a school library would have an ecchi manga, I will never know 🤣 )... a few years later now I wanna read it. How I remember this.. I don't know..
