Seiichi Yamazaki, a businessperson in electronic book/video/app distribution and development, wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday that Nakashima has begun shooting a Shingeki no Kyojin film. However, he quickly added with chagrin that this has not been made public yet.

Quote from Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan Manga to Get Film in Fall 2013
The email newsletter for Kodansha's Comic Plus members confirmed on Wednesday that a film adaptation of Hajime Isayama's Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) manga will open in Fall of 2013. More details will be provided in future postings of the newsletter.

Hajime Isayama launched Shingeki no Kyojin in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. The story follows the life of humans after giants suddenly appear and take over the entire world. To keep out these invaders who eat humans for food, the humans erect huge walls, but at the cost of their freedom in the outside world.

The manga has become a sleeper hit, selling over 3 million copies since last year. The fifth volume shipped in August.

The official website of Itako, a city north of Tokyo, posted an October 3 casting call for extras on the latest film by award-wining director Tetsuya Nakashima (Confessions, Kamikaze Girls, Paco and the Magical Picture Book). According to the casting call, the crew is looking for 80 "healthy male and female" extras "to play people fleeing in panic from 'giants' who suddenly appear in a peaceful shopping district."

Quote from Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin Film to Be Live-Action
The January issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is confirming on Friday that the previously revealed Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) film will be live-action.

This series will be a much larger hit as a feature film than anything else.

Although, the small stuff in the manga happen to be a favourite technique used by the author, like all the anxiety and the incredibly realistic fear brought onto each character, if paced correctly, it can be considered a psychological-action-thriller. It makes for such a page turner, especially with the unique fighting style the author's introduced.

I'm excited about this. The series premise is very original, and the author remains loyal to it as he progresses. Can't wait to see it.

Could be interesting though I suppose I'm a purist, ought to introduce more fresh blood to a great series so it's all good.

Now that the movie is out ... (At least in Japan?)

Don't watch it. It's terrible. Now for spoilers of everything they changed.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
So many things were changed ...
Even if you do turn a blind eye to everyone in the cast being Asian, when Mikasa is suppose to be the last known person that half Asian. They still changed too much, and not even in a good way.

There was no Survey Corps at first. They formed after the attack on the wall.

Mikasa was very innocent and cute/nice at the beginning which only leads me to believe that they completely nixed her background story of how her parents were murdered and how she killed one of them.

This wasn't mentioned until (about) an hour in that Eren lost his parents when he was young. Yeah, they made him an orphan. That scene where Eren sees his mother get killed then eaten by that creepy titan never happened.
INSTEAD, Mikasa is in the situation with that creepy titan. For more than half the movie we believe that she got eaten. Not only did they not show how she escaped. Mikasa tells Eren how she was eaten and shows him a scar she has ... which the placement of it and how she survived a bite makes no sense.
Going back to Eren's mom not dying the way she was suppose to, the main reason why Eren hates the titans. Why he wants to kill them all. Gone, instead the only reason why he hates them is because they trapped humans inside the walls and he wants to go out and explore. Which Eren's desire to go outside the walls was always there it wasn't his sole reason to fight.

They changed Levi's name and made him have some sort of relationship with Mikasa. (Probably sexual with the way he was touching her ...)

The Armored Titan never appeared only the Colossus Titan and Eren taking titan form.
Annie, Reiner & Bertolt weren't shown .... unless Shikishima was suppose to be Reiner ...

Jean seemed drunk every time you saw him.
Sasha's character was not funny at all. Don't get me started on Zoë Hange's character ...

They had cars!!! My god I saw them using cars instead of horses.

The time line is all messed up (age of Eren+)

The special effects ... there was brief moments when I thought oh that doesn't look bad, but most of the time it wasn't good.

Unless you want to ruin your feelings towards the manga/anime don't want the live action movie.

(I'm half asleep and probably have more typos than usual >.> I may reedit this just to fix that)

The movie is indeed terrible and i got me irritated and angry a lot so just read Brian Ashcraft´s Kotaku review. None of the changes work and the acting and directing are mostly horrible so only the fine yet somewhat baffling (they are in the SS now?) sets and costumes stand out. 4/10 and i am not coming back for the sequel or tv show which shouldn't exist to begin with. The film lastly has an average rating of 2.16 stars on Yahoo! Japan laugh . The director will surely make a horrible Godzilla reboot too as he proved that he can´t do action or scale (or even violence) ether. Even the new Death Note tv series is better and i gave it an identical IMDB score. The recent Parasyte is nonsense too and Patlabor looks like shit so just re-watch Kenshin or the first Old Boy again.
I wonder if a worse period in Japanese cinema existed as their current output is embarrassing.
Forgot: @kitty Levi isn´t in the films as that was "Shikishima". Bleh.

Woah there, you need to word this waaaay better. I find myself deeply agreeing that all of the changes you cited are terrible, but you made it sound like
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Mikasa killed one of her parents in the manga

I assume what you meant is
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Mikasa killed one of her parents' murderers in the manga

Haha, yeah. You got what I meant. Did you not see my "I'm half asleep" at the bottom. >.<

That new character that was or wasn't Levi sure did give off the impression that he was like Levi.

Sorry I refuse to waste my time watching the sequel.
I'll watch season 2 of the anime (which should be coming out soon, right?)

But I won't watch the live action movies. No >.< No way. no

The first live action was so bad that ... no ...

But it has a 10 minute summary of the first movie so you could relieve the glory all over again! Movie magic 101. The history of the world is supposed to be 100% changed too as a summary told me that the Titans end up being a relic of the Gulf War.
The Skeeter Davis song "The end of the world" is also used. What a clever design decision! The ending is further open so the creators could come back to ruin Historia.
(The 2nd movie lastly underperformed in Japan so maybe not.)

Gooood lawdy. I just got updated with the manga, watched the anime, read all the spin offs and I'm essentially updated with everything accept watching the live action movies... I'm thinking I should give the movies a miss without a doubt. Wish I didn't have to wait for 1 chapter a month. Q__Q

But damn son, this film sounds cringe worthy why would they change all these things. But out of curiosity, does anyone know where part 2 ends in the series or does it have this super rushed bullshit ending? none Cuz I can see that being a thing since they messed everything else up by the looks of it. @__@
